Clean and Cozy
This cottage is located right across the street from Shepler's Ferry, which takes you to the island. It was walking distance to so many cute shops and restaurants. My husband went every morning for coffee and donuts just because he could. Burt and Stef are wonderful hosts! The kitchen is fully stocked, huge supply of towels and linens, and the beds are very comfortable! Our week went by way too fast....we will be staying two weeks next year!!
Quiet but Close to it all!
We enjoyed this bright, clean, cottage located within walking distance to the main 'touristy' places, yet we enjoyed all the quiet and beauty as if we were located far from the main area.
We would have given it a 5 star, but for there not being air conditioning. We were there in June and the weather was quite nice, but imagine it could get quite warm in high summer. They did have fans, and heaters available, should the need arise.
This is a vintage northern Michigan property, that has been beautifully set up as a rental, with all the comforts of home. There were 'homey' touches here and there that really added to the experience. The yard was beautifully kept up, and during the 3 weeks we were there we hardly saw anyone working to maintain the flowerbeds or lawn... it was a real plus that we were not constantly hearing lawn mowers or noisy tools.
I would highly recommend this property for a gals getaway, family retreat or just a solo secluded hideaway.
Great place for the 2 of us - comfortable, cozy, well-equipped & close to everything.
This lake view cottage is the perfect place for a get-away that has everything. We could stay in and be comfortable or we could take day trips around the area and come back to a quiet evening. The cottage is close enough to everything that you can walk most places. And if you want to go farther, the hosts have left plenty of information for you. They are also quite helpful in explaining everything to you. The added touches such as fresh flowers on the table on arrival are a great touch, too. If you are interested in staying in the Mackinaw area, then this lake view cottage can't be beat. Stef and Bert will make sure everything is ready for you and will also make your stay wonderful. Five stars!
Clean, well appointed, spacious, excellent location.
not what we expected
Most important is to note that the owner Stef and her husband are very nice people. They care enough to do a meet and greet upon arrival. Unfortunately but not their fault of course was the mass intrusion of mosquito like flies. Thousands of them on us, our cars, the house, in the house. It never ended. We have to believe this bug intrusion is a yearly event so we recommend not vacationing in that area during May. The house (cottage) is old and pictures on the web site of the inside make it look much, much better. The sofa and recliner are uncomfortable and the futon that was put in the living room so uncomfortable we couldn't sit on it. Bedrooms have connecting closets which isn't so bad but neither door from the bedroom closets would close. The coffee pot is plastic and smelled like burnt coffee. The pot had some areas of melted plastic on it. We went out for coffee each morning as we couldn't stand the smell. So overall, the place is functional, it was neat and clean but could use some newer furniture, a new coffee pot and non sticking doors.
Wonderful hospitality; wonderful cottage.
Stef made us feel welcome and right at home. From the welcome gifts of wine and cookies, to the beautiful views and comfortable accommodations, we loved our weekend stay.
