W stayed at Tarpon Lodge 084
Beautiful beach, house and views. The area is short on restaurants but a morning of fishing with Capt Matt took care of that! Fun trip. A bit involved getting there, but worth it.
Comfortable and convenient beach house.
This is a well designed and comfortable beach house--it is a duplex sharing a common wall with lodging to the south, but there is very little if any sound transmission through the walls or across the porches and decks and really only saw or heard neighbors in passing. Beautiful and versatile screened in porch with picnic like table and chairs on the first floor and wonderful open deck with loungers on the second floor which has a commanding view of the coastline. It has a comfortable sitting area around a television armoire and a side kitchen table & chairs. The kitchen itself is compact but has everything you need to cook--front left burner on stove not functional but three other burners fully functional-good microwave and dishwasher and cupboards stocked. The downstairs bedroom has two single beds with own private bath and shower; the upstairs has a queen/king bed with private bath and shower. The screen door to the upstairs deck is a bit weathered in its track but functional. The outside first level deck to the north is spacious and has a well maintained hot tub with cover. House has a functional washer and dryer and there is internet connection. Underneath the house are sandy walkways and a gas grille that is fully functional although the cabinet doors underneath the grille are worn and weathered and prone to falling out of their tracks. Also under the house and stacked against one of the wood caissons/beams supporting the house are two wood and canvass type folding beach chairs with accompanying umbrellas as well as some plastic chairs and one small boogie board. It is a short sandy walk to the beach and the Gulf of Mexico where the beach is filled with sea shells of every shape and size. There is a crescent shaped sand bar about 25-40 yds. directly west off the beach that flocks of seagulls and other coastal birds roost on until they are disturbed by people swimming out to, surfing, kayaking or arriving by boat to the sandbar. Many boats pass through the channel between the beach and the sandbar so use care if you swim out to the sandbar but it is an easy swim although visibility is poor. We saw a group of three dolphins also traveling through that small channel between the beach and sandbar. The birds on the sandbar can sometimes make a racket that can be heard in the beach house. The vegetation near the beach house is thoughtfully landscaped providing additional privacy. Short golf cart drive to everywhere.
Great house, perfect location, staff just ok
The house was perfect for our small family getaway. It was clean and the beds comfortable. Plus there were lots of extra pillows and blankets, which is a nice touch. We spent some time driving around and decided this really is one of the very best spots on the island.
The only reason 4 stars rather than 5 is because the North Captiva Island Club staff, while friendly, were really not as helpful as you'd expect from a tourism/hospitality company. The ferry staff were fantastic and we had no issues getting our luggage to and from. On the other hand, the island club office and Mango's store staff (owned by the club) were not so great. For example, "is there an ATM on the island?" was met with "I don't know." Really?!? There were several other similar situations, during which the staff was never rude, but could easily have been more helpful.
We would definitely come back because the house was fantastic, the island beautiful, and the sunsets breathtaking, but the management company staff could really be more helpful.
Also if you want to eat at a restaurant, make reservations days in advance.
Our stay on the Island was beyond expectations. We stayed in a beach front home, collected sand dollars on the beach, enjoyed the break from cars and traffic and relaxed with morning dolphin sightings and gorgeous sunsets. The few restaurants, although pricey, were quite delicious. Everyone on the island is pleasant and the culture is laid back and stress free!
We enjoyed our stay. Place was great.
Great location, very peaceful. Perfect for families.
We loved the quaint home with an amazing location. Tons of privacy and beautiful beach. We will be back for sure.
