Location, location, location!

Right on the beach, amazing views, tons of privacy, great house for a family to share. Lots of stairs so you get your exercise in! Needs a little updating, some furnishings a little worn, but not in the house all that much - mostly on the beach so not a problem for us!

January 2018 at White Pelican Watch

  • 4 of 5

We all (9 of us) were looking forward to this trip, and were so pleased with our overall trip! I will start with the Club assistance. The customer service could not have been more attentive or personally engaging! The process from airport shuttling to ferry to Island Club to doorstep of the property were seamless and actually a pleasant adventure. Now we know how it goes, and we will definitely plan to be back! The listing was accurate and the property did not disappoint. We were looking for space, nice layout, beach-side presence/view/access, and all were so wonderful, as promised. The pool on property was great, especially for the kids, and the hot-tub was happily used be all of us.....a LOT! When we arrived and filled out our 'condition upon arrival' sheet, the Club guys were right there to make everything right, just as expected and desired. I LOVE the look and feel of the house, including the decks which surround both of the main living floors, as well as the top sea-side deck! It was definitely a chance for all of us to 'not do much'.....which is just what we needed, but the pools at the Club, along with the available activities--some of which were no cost--were either used or nice to have as options.

On the condition of the property itself: It seems clear that the owner does not use the property much him/herself; One screen door was only half there, and one of the fence panels in the pool area was broken, blowing down when we tried to set it back up. The biggest disappointment was the inconsistent lighting throughout the home. Sometimes those super-white lights, which only work in a factory but don't belong in a home, were present, amidst the warm, home-appropriate lighting. LED lights can be both colors, and I pray that both the Club and the owners of this home replace missing and 'ugly-bright-white' lights with the better, warmer lights. Outside on the decks, MANY lights were missing, and most were mis-matched. This is just disconcerting, because the atmosphere is so largely defined by careful attention to good lighting. The home was an AMAZING VALUE!, for our group of 9, and potentially for 11, especially during this January low season, and has one of the very best locations on the island! The space moved well--the great room with two seating areas, in the same space as the kitchen and dining area (the table was also BIG ENOUGH-THANK YOU!), breathed very well. That, contrasted to the nice separate bedrooms downstairs! Loved it!

Great location, Great Island, OK House

  • 3 of 5

While we had a wonderful time, for the amount we paid for the home we were a little disappointed. One of the screen doors was broken in half. Many of the other screens were broken as well. There were flat screen tv's in every room, however when I called because I couldn't get them to work we were informed that only the Master bedroom and living TV's we actually hooked up and working. There were scuff marks all over the walls, you could tell this place was strictly a rental.

On the positive side, this location was wonderful, the pool was great and the kitchen was well stocked with whatever you needed. Everything else about the island was fantastic and we all can't wait to come back...just to stay in a different house.

Beautiful home-Needs a little TLC

  • 3 of 5

This was our third vacation in North Captiva in as many years. We have already begun planning next year's trip, as we sadly depart our little piece of paradise tanned and rested!

White Pelican Watch is a beautiful house. 5 stars for the beach front location and the view. 2 stars for the accommodations.

As one of the older homes on the island, it is in desperate need of a complete makeover/remodel. All three of the bathrooms are below standard (broken tiles, rusted tub, cracked mirrors, lacked towel hooks, and bath room rugs). The furnishings are out-dated and need replacing -especially the living room furniture, which was soiled and shabby. Only oneTV worked properly. The therma foil on the kitchen cabinets was peeling and the granite was completely cracked near the sink. The tiny washing machine broke during the first load of laundry, flooding most of the ground floor.

The owners should consider petitioning their homeowners association to implement a few repairs on road parallel to the north side of the runway. A few yards of well-placed sand would go a long way. We noticed quite a few stranded golf carts after each afternoon storm.

The NCIC crew continues to improve their game :-). Staff members were polite, helpful and professional. Their well-coordinated efforts made the check-in/check-out process a breeze. Home-related issues were immediately resolved, and Sandie's grocery service was a big help.
