Relaxing stay!

  • 4 of 5

North Captiva is a great quiet vacation spot. We will definitely go back. We have been going to Sanibel and Captiva for 20 years and we finally went to North! The house is very comfortable and well cared for and we would definitely stay there again. The only issue with the house description is in regard to the pool kitchen. There wasn’t one. There is a grill but I don’t think that’s what is meant by the pool kitchen description . All of the doors near the pool were locked with owners only notes on them. It wasn’t that big of a deal but.....

North Captiva does require planning for those people who aren’t sure of whether it’s for them or not. We rented a boat for our stay so we were completely comfortable. We could go to Captiva to get extra items that were needed. We did order groceries ahead of time but still found we needed some things and the small grocery on the island is really just for snacks and ice cream. The dining out choices are limited. One night we were out of luck because the kitchen closed at 7. So we enjoyed a cocktail and went back to the house for dinner. You can order fresh fish for next day pick up. This was great and we would do that again. We did not try the fancier restaurants. I just couldn’t see paying for it but we probably should have. We just stuck with Mangoes and sat at the bar. There are only 5-6 tables so it’s not a big place. Barnacles is bigger but we just went there for a beer one night.

So if you are adventurous, a good planner, and want quiet, North Captiva is the place. If you want restaurants, shops and cars, stick to Captiva.

Great property, close walk to beach

  • 5 of 5

What the shell lived up to our expectations. We were pleasantly surprised just how close this house is to the beach, and the six person golf cart was perfect for our six person family. So much better than squeezing into a four cart, or having to take two. The reservation/ferry/check-in process is fine tuned. The only check-in issue we had was no laundry detergent, which was quickly solved with a delivery of plenty of soap. They do make you fill out a form with pre-existing damage within first 24 hours, and I understand the owners don't want to get into disagreements on broken things, but this is a well used rental and I felt sorta stressed out to write down everything we could find in the first day to avoid being charged so there were many items on our list that we didn't need fixed, but just didn't want to be charged for. The lower bedroom unit smelled musty after a few days, however we weren't using it for sleeping arrangements anyways. It was convenient to have access to a mini fridge on the ground level with the pool. The pool also was sandy upon check in, and sandy when we left, but I guess that is normal for a beach house. There were lots of leftover pool floaties and some beach toys stored in the outside shower by the pool. We loved using the grill, but it is on the ground floor with the pool, and the kitchen is up on the third floor, so we would have preferred to have the grill on the kitchen level deck. The spices were nice in the cupboard, as were the extra leftover coffee filters. I don't think the description mentioned the Keurig, but there is one there if you prefer to make single serve coffees. If you are going to North Captivia to get away from it all and crowds of people, and have a sun and fun vacation, this property is great. The club pool was nice and we used the kayaks one afternoon from the club too (free). We rented a boat for two days from Boats and Fun, right there by the club, so it was super easy to pickup and return. We also did a 2 hour jetski rental from them. Bring bug spray, lots of it, if you are going to walk around at sunset or night, and especially if you trek through the state park on the island. Overall a very pleasant vacation and we would definitely rent this property again.
