I Liked the House, but...

  • 3 of 5

The positives of our trip are: 1. The house was nice and had easy access to the beach just down the road. 2. I like the beach by us versus the bigger beaches farther away. It is small, but not crowded. 3. It was relaxing trip. 4. The house was clean.

There were some real negatives for us though (more about the Island Club): 1. They gave us a golf cart that barely worked. It was out of juice after just one drive. There was something wrong with the battery. We asked for a new cart and were told they had no more, but would have someone call us to fix it. No one ever called. 2. We asked for a private ferry to take us back on Saturday. Once we got to the island, we were informed they just found out they couldn’t do it and we would have to take the 7 am boat off the island. It worked out ok, but did not like hearing it until two days before we were to leave. 3. There was a full house remodel going on at the house just across the road, so we were awakened every day at 7:30 am to the noise of a lift and hammering of new siding. No sleeping in for us.

Overall, we liked the house, but I doubt seriously we will ever come back to the island.

Ideal Location

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay here in North Captiva and can't wait to go back. Having been to NCI before, we were versed in the drill of groceries and logistics of getting on and off the island so it went pretty smoothly. Everyone at Pine Island Taxi, Publix and NC Island Taxi couldn't have more helpful and accommodating. But the cleaning staff, specifically Joanne Salmon, took the time to address whatever issues we had to make sure they will be corrected. (I'm curious to know if that'll happen;)) The house was perfect for our partial family of 5 with ample room and seating inside for us. To be honest though, fixing the downstairs shower so hot water is available, providing seating on the awesome decks available (only had 4 heavy chairs & side table on the roof and none on the master room decks!)and providing a blender and hooking up the ice maker (there were 6 ice trays for filling) would have made things that much better. Strict rules about only 4 in the cart meant a few more trips to the other end of the island to go to the beach or preserve was OK as it wasn't too far and the cart had ample "zip". Also, Mother Nature swept ALL the sand from the beach that used to be accessible from the end of the road which I hadn't realized when booking. No more can you walk the length of the island. None of these are show-stoppers though and I would return to the house again in a heart beat. I loved the cottage feel and the references and memorabilia to sailing throughout the house. There was a basket of beach towels as well as ample bath towels, dishes and glasses. Excellent steak knives. Could use more serving and meal prep items and bring some spices from home. All-in-all, a fantastic place!!!

Perfect location! Beautiful home and the porches with view were lovely.

  • 4 of 5

Very comfortable and beautiful home for our family. We have three children and the size was just right. The location is perfect! Beach is just a few houses down and the view from porches is beautiful. Be sure to get groceries!! We should have paid more attention to that and brought much fewer clothes!

The only issue is that the bathrooms need some TLC and repair. They are fine but definitely could use some attention. A few more pots for cooking would also be helpful since you really have to cook most nights but otherwise kitchen was well stocked. Overall, a great trip!
