Lovely property in a great location. Good value for money
A little hidden heaven
What a wonderful farm house. Great location and a wonderful character property with all the facilities you could want. The village is friendly and welcoming and is served well by 2 bus routes. Bars and restaurants to cover all tastes and budgets. Plenty of shops and supermarkets to get your supplies. It really is a little heaven. Have stayed on Gozo more that a dozen times and this has been the best.
Beautiful old village
The house was very pleasant, just like on the photos. The village was very guiet, one of the nicest in Gozo, I believe. Some nice restaurants on the village square close to the house..
The only thing I missed was a car to take me to the beach. It was to far to walk.
Lovely holiday - much recommended
The Olive Tree is a gorgeous building, set back from the street but only about three minutes walk away from a charming town square full of cafes and restaurants. Gozo is probably not the place to go if you're looking for an exciting nightlife, but if you want somewhere beautiful and friendly then it's to be much recommended.
"The Olive Tree" is well equipped, a decent kitchen, air conditioning in the bedrooms - and for those of you with kids the wifi works well! We had had a minor concern from the photographs of the building on this website that a small part of the house looked a bit like it was built from breezeblocks - but it's just some of the upper parts of the house are made from much newer limestone blocks than the older parts of the house and the whole place has loads of character.
Perhaps avoid if you have a phobia of reptiles - at the time we stayed (early July) the lizards in the garden were very active. But they're tiny, they don't cause any problems, and if you like wildlife it's wonderful - for us it simply added to the enjoyment.
We hired a car from Victoria Garage, as recommended by the owner. They are a small, friendly family business and again I would recommend using them.
Xaghra is a typical Gozitan village. From the main village square with its Baroque church, statues, oleander trees and several excellent restaurants and bars, it is only a few minutes on foot to the Neolithic Gigantija temples, two stalagmite caves and an ancient windmill, as well as to all shops for your daily needs. To beach lovers, Gozo offers a spectacular and varied coastline with rock formations, steep cliffs and sandy beaches, for culture seekers it teems with monuments from all epochs of Malta’s eventful history, and the pleasant Mediterranean climate allows bathing even in November. Most of Gozo is characterised by compact villages set among the traditional terraced fields and offers rural peace and serenity. Another of Gozo’s strong points are the Gozitans: friendly and open-minded, deeply rooted in their communities and at the same time open to the world. Communication is no problem, as English is Malta’s second official and everyday language.
