About Kristoffer Cusick and Dan Hickle

Hi! Kristoffer and Dan here and we want to welcome you. Dan works in Marketing and Kristoffer is an actor on Broadway and television. Having lived in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and abroad, we have traveled to many countries and love meeting new people. We have always enjoyed the experience of staying in a home or apartment versus a hotel when we travel because of the ability to experience a city more fully. We have always stayed in beautiful apartments or homes with luxurious amenities and felt it was important to offer the same to those travelers who came to stay with us. We love to experience restaurants, bars, museums and everything a city has to offer and have many many wonderful suggestions for you when you come to stay!

Kristoffer Cusick and Dan Hickle purchased this apartment in 2011

Why Kristoffer Cusick and Dan Hickle chose The Castro

We chose to buy this property because of its central location and ease of getting just about anywhere you want to go in the city in minutes. The beauty of the neighborhood and homes that surround was also a selling point to us. We love San Francisco and the fact that in 10 minutes you can be at the beach, waterfront, luxury shopping, a concert, running in Golden Gate Park or relaxing in a sidewalk cafe in any of the cities thriving and vibrant neighborhoods. Napa, Sonoma and wine country are just an hour drive away and you can be skiing the slopes near Tahoe all day long and back home in time for dinner!

What makes this apartment unique

This apartment is quite special in that it is extremely private and lush in its surroundings. The garden and gazebo, private hot tub and top notch amenities keep it in a class all its own. Walking to Cafe Flore on Market Street for a morning coffee and pastry or relaxing by the fire table with a glass of wine at night before slipping into the hot tub for a soak are just a few of the amazing things at your disposal when you stay Beyond The Palm.

Guestbook comments from the owner

“The accommodation was just perfect, it is in an ideal location within the city which allows you to feel part of the city but be able to escape at the same time. The accommodation is spacious and very clean, there was two of us but even if four people shared the space it would be more than big enough. We chatted to Dan on our arrival who kindly showed us around and showed us how everything worked. Everything was perfect and you can tell the the hosts see this as an extension of there own home. The outdoor space is a massive bonus and the perfect place after a day of site-seeing, the outdoor tub is brilliant and the fire pit is the perfect place to drink a few glasses of wine. The home is located in a great area with some amazing restaurants and bars, the welcome manual is full of information. The home is only a five minute walk from the tram line which only costs $2.25 to get all the way into the city. If you are looking for a spacious, clean, immaculate property with the bonus of the outside space then look no further than this property. when we return to the city we will not stay anywhere else. Dont look elsewhere this is the place to stay in San Fran. ”

Lovely landscaping and cute apartment for a small family

  • 5 of 5

Owners were very friendly, polite and helpful! Our laundry machine was not working, but Dan offered to do a load of laundry for us. The kitchen is small but very functional... we ate out most of the time anyway! The hot tub was a great way to end a long day of sight seeing. Thanks for a wonderful experience!

Beautiful Entry to a Comfortable Apartment

  • 4 of 5

We arrived in the dark and didn't get a good look at the entry garden until the next day. I like to garden so I enjoyed very much looking at all the plants.

This was a base for visiting family for Christmas and so we did not spend much time there. There is lots of space and everything is very comfortable. I have back problems and the mattress supported me so well. Got a very good nights sleep.

This is a very quiet neighborhood and we had no problem parking on the street.

Oasis in the city

  • 4 of 5

My friend and I traveled to San Francisco to visit her daughter, who is a junior at USF. We love staying in the Castro, you can easily get anywhere in the city from there. This property is just above the Castro in the upper Market area. Beautiful homes and just far enough out of the Castro to be quiet and peaceful.

A couple of things were missed that kept if from being a 5 star experience. We arrived after 4, which was past the check in time, and the housekeeper was cleaning the unit. This wasn't a big problem, we were starving so dropped our bags and went to the Castro to find a bite to eat. The unit was clean and attractive upon our return. It really is a nice apartment and the grounds are stunning. There was no soap in the bathroom, which might have been an oversight. A travel sized shampoo and conditioner, but no hand or body soap. Luckily there was some dish soap in the kitchen to wash our hands. I used the hot tub on three occasions during our stay. It was lovely! What a gorgeous setting and a truly top notch hot tub. Discovered that the dryer didn't work, which was a bummer since I was using the hot tub and wanted to dry towels and my suit. I called the owner about the dryer and he was very apologetic that he had forgotten to mention that is was broken and awaiting a service call later in the week. Our host came down to visit and introduce himself. We both really enjoyed him and found him to be friendly and gracious. Would absolutely stay in this property again.

Super clean, quiet, and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic location that linked the city together in a way that made walking in San Francisco an adventure. We learned some new shortcuts on foot from Haight/Ashbury (via Cole St.) with terrific views. The ladies were happy to return early for an evening hot tub before dinner. Close-by restaurants in both the Mission and Castro were tasty. I really liked LoLinda on Mission for quick tapas and drinks before the show.

Dan and Kristofer obviously love their home and have created a quiet retreat for quests, fronted by a lush garden and quarters set back away from the road. Large flax grass and bougainvillea+ vines obscure the view of the hot tub and patio providing privacy from the street. Through the french doors there was plenty of table space and chairs to sit and enjoy eachother's company. It is a tight space for 4, but luckily we are close friends. I had expected mediocre sleep on the pull-out bed described in the listing. However, we were surprised by the comfortable night we experienced--best convertible ever. The bathroom is well-lit and clean with a spacious shower and good fixtures. Since it was Halloween, we appreciated having two full-length mirrors for costuming. The huge palm tree was a beacon in the sky for making our way back in a new neighborhood.

Having stayed in just about every district in SF, I must say that this was one of our favorite places and look forward to booking again in the future.
