Weekend in Virginia
The home was clean and very comfortable. We had privacy and plenty of room outdoors for our family and dog to enjoy. We had one issue and owner was easy to contact and anxious to correct. We would definitely stay again.
Not What We Expected for a Rental Property
It is difficult coming into a situation where the homeowner lives in the home...no cabinet space to store all that we had to bring. It was too cluttered with personal things and the back door should be replaced . Refrigerator needs to have shelf replaced over vegetable bin; syringe found under bed where children were sleeping. One of the children had to be taken to their family pediatrician and put on anti-biotics for two weeks just to ensure there would be no infections. While we adjusted and made it an adventure, we could not honestly recommend this property which overlooked a trashed neighbor's backyard and target-shooting. Personally, because we've stayed in other properties which were not occupied by the owner, we found that those properties are more suitable for our vacations.
Home away from home. I am so sorry about the medical issue that ensued for your grandchild. I had rearranged the twin mattresses prior to your arrival for greater comfort. It is definitely on me that I did not see and discard this item. This event has never happened before. Yes. My home reflects that I live there when it is not rented. For some, this is not a positive. For others, as my reviews reflect, it is a comfort. I strongly encourage all future guests to consider this review in context. It is one of 3 poor reviews I have received in 5 years. For some, my home is NOT a good fit. Others(about 45) uniformly rate my property as a 4 or 5 because of the privacy, size, and quiet. 4's reflect my home is older. I would have hoped, given I greeted you on Christmas Day personally, you would have been more understanding. Yes, my property is not a good fit for you. Most quests have enjoyed and reflected a different experience. The VALUE is beyond question for the price. Regards, Phyllis Cave
Although we had a little bit of trouble finding the house initially, once we were there, it was easy to get settled. The location was great for visiting family and such. I'd say the best feature was the ease of maintaining the temperature. I don't think we've ever stayed in a place that was so easy to maintain a consistent temperature. The baseboard heaters do a great job as did the fireplace (thanks so much for the wood!).
Fall week with friends
Overall this is a great location for fall leaf viewing, local shops and antique shops. The house has too much extraneous furniture and equipment blocking closets. The kitchen was clean and fairly well stocked. A big issue is no lighting on the stairs leading up to the front door. When we arrived it was dark and the stairs were wet and slippery. This should be a fairly easy fix making it much safer for guests. Thankyou Phyllis Cave for a sharing your home with us.
My cabin is cozy. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
Rustic cabin, scenic location
Our family rented this cabin in the woods for a visit to nearby Staunton. The location was absolutely perfect! What a wonderful way to experience the Shenandoah Valley. With two adults and four kids, we had plenty of space to spread out. Everyone had a wonderful time and we’re looking forward to visiting again!
Nice, Private Cabin
Overall my group and I had a great time. Phyllis was easy to contact when we had a question or needed something, and the house was close to the Shenandoah hiking destinations that we were interested in, as well as being close to Staunton for other activities. The house itself was also far enough off the main road that there was no noise from anything, and it felt very private. There were some issues with cleanliness, but Phyllis addressed those quickly
Thanks for your support of my property. My newly stained deck front and back is GREAT for cool fall eveings. Your group of 6 and dog apparently were quite comfortable. Yes, I will continue to address the cleaning concern you mentioned! Visit again!
