Come sit on the lanai of our 1800sf, 3 bedroom, 2 bath home and the world melts away.Halona Hale is high above Waikiki noise yet only 2 miles from its beaches, minutes from great restaurants, and easy highway access to all Oahu has to offer. Perfect vacation or longer stay.
Imagine watching the sunrise and set through rainbow colored skies over Diamond Head. High on a ridge, with the best panoramic view of the ocean and Diamond Head, your imagination becomes reality. We want to make sure your vacation in our home is everything you dream a Hawaii vacation or extended stay should be. The house has wireless internet, cable TV, air conditioning, a full kitchen with all the pots/pans and cooking and eating utensils you need, a blender for all those mixed drinks (at supermarket prices not Waikiki tourist prices), linens, beach towels, blankets (and so much more) plus a great lanai to enjoy the sun and view.
Hunter and I have lived in Honolulu for 13 years and have recently moved to Minnesota to get medical care. When we moved to Hawaii, my parents and sister moved from the mainland as well and are still living in Honolulu. We never imaged that we would be anywhere but on the islands and hope our home becomes the place of exciting adventure and lifetime memories.
Traci and Hunter Downs purchased this house in 2001
When we first saw our house we drove up the steep driveway, walked through the front door, and fell in love with the sweeping ocean views, the hardwood floors, and the quiet setting. All of this and still just minutes from Waikiki, restaurants, and downtown where we worked was just ideal. We've always rented out the Ohana house behind the main house but know that someday we will use it for family and friends visiting from the mainland. Andrew lives there now and is excited to be our onsite help for anyone with questions or needing a little more info about the islands. We now have an 11 year old son who was born while we lived in the house so over the years, it has become even more family friendly. There is a tree house, basketball hoop and bunk bed to add more fun your Honolulu adventure. As well as an added playpen (pack-n-play) and high chair. We hope that you enjoy our home as much as we do!
Hunter is a scientist and software engineer and has developed a Halona Hale app to give you more tips on our favorite places to go and things to do in Honolulu. Just download it from the App store. The app name is Halona Hale. We love to travel and are excited to hear about the new adventures that you will have in your home away from home.
We stayed here for five nights 8/7-8/12/16 with our two sons (ages 11 and 15) and my parents. Traci and Hunter have made their home clean, comfortable and so well-equipped. We had everything we needed from extra towels to snorkel and outdoor gear like chairs and mats. The views from their home are amazing. We really enjoyed the peaceful and spacious deck overlooking Diamond Head, Waikiki, and the ocean.
We couldn't have picked a better place for the six of us to stay and spread out when we weren't out exploring: Diamond Head (go super early or park at community college), Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Waikiki (park near zoo), and Hanauma Bay (we took a shuttle from an equipment rental store at the bottom of the hill before the bay- our favorite shave ice in Oahu and the Big Island was from a store in the rear of this center.)
Traci and Hunter were very responsive when I asked for a recommendation for a restaurant close-by prior to checking in. We picked up some groceries that first day at the Whole Foods. After that, we found a nearby Safeway. We enjoyed each trip up and down the hill; it was part of the adventure. If we can ever return to this island, we would definitely stay at this wonderful home again.
Best view you can get!! Didn't want to go out in evenings, chose to sit on lanai and watch sun set. Driveway is steep but not a problem. Very accommodating rental with AC. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay. Definitely would stay here again.
Home was perfect for our stay - clean, quiet, close enough, yet far enough away from the chaos of waikiki. views are amazing, space is more than ample. owners are responsive and easy to work with.
the couple staying with me thought the bathrooms were a bit dirty and even bought some cleaning wipes to do a once a over. they also thought the gecko droppings on the shelf under the tv should have been cleaned.
i was beyond pleased, but thought i should include all commentary to make it that much better for future renters!
The great room is really the gem of this house. Spacious, modern, smartly decorated, comfortable, and with a great view of Diamond head and Honolulu. The house and kitchen were really well equipped with supplies so we had all of the comforts of home. Then even had a battery-powered vacuum cleaner so we could clean the beach sand out of our suitcases and out of our car. The neighborhood is upscale but still quirky and interesting. A nicety is that the house is maybe 10 minutes away from a Whole Foods grocery so we could cook our meals. We really liked this property and will chose it again in a minute when we come back to Oahu.
I would recommend this hilltop retreat just outside of Honolulu, where my husband and I stayed for about 10 days. The views on the comfortable deck of Diamond Head and Honolulu are wonderful to watch over coffee in the morning or wine in the evening. The master bedroom was very comfortable; there is also a bunk bed room and another queen sized bedroom with adjacent bath that would make it comfortable for a larger group. Everything was in great shape and the location is convenient for all points travel in Oahu.
We will definitely return. The owners told us about the steep driveway, but we did not find it a problem at all.
Located in Kaimuki, there is a good restaurant called Town, and a great coffee place. Whole Foods and a Foodland are about a mile away, making it convenient to shop. If you dislike the crows of Waikkiki as we do, this is a place to call home away from home.
There was plenty of room for our group of 7 and the house was in great condition. I've stayed in several vacation homes and it's always nice when appliances are in perfect working order, no issues with wifi, and the house looks as good in real life as it does in the photos. The view was amazing!
Our home is in Maunalani Heights, near the top of the ridge behind Diamond Head. It was developed in the early 1900s and has many of its streets named after transpacific ships. Our house is located off the street, so wake up to the birds singing and the sun shining through the skylight above the master bed. Just up the street is a playground, with tennis and basketball courts, a field and a jungle gym. It's a hideaway away from the world while being super close to all that Honolulu and Oahu has to offer. Just a few blocks away at the top of the ridge, there is an incredible hike along the top of the Ko'olau mountains.
We're located around the corner from the 14 bus line. By car we're just up the ridge off the Koko Head H-1 exit. This also means that the on ramp for H-1 is just down the hill. Go east on H-1 to get to Hanauma Bay or west to get to downtown Honolulu and the airport.
We're located off the street up a steep driveway (fear not…never lost anyone yet), the house is quiet and in a safe, walkable, neighborhood. If you’re into shopping, Kahala Mall and Ala Moana Malls are one exit away…of course, so is Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, Hanauma Bay (30 min) and you're 45 minutes to the North Shore, Pipeline and Turtle Bay.
You will also get the house’s companion Halona Hale guide and if you have access our free app in the iTunes and (website hidden) Play store (Aug ’14) that will tell you all our favorite things to do, places to see and eat as well as helpful tips…it’s like having your own personal tour guide.
