About Walter, or Cindy
Cindy, a local lady, who did all the renovations along with other members of her family, looks after the house and the guests. She will make sure you have all you need and will likely bring you some of her home cooking (creamed fish chowder etc!). Her sister Romelda will help via the net to make sure you know all about the area and how best to enjoy the many spots that few tourists know about (one of the nice things about staying in Woods Harbour is that you'll likely be the only tourists--yet the area has an astounding array of wonderful sites and activities to offer).
Walter, or Cindy purchased this House in 2004
Why Walter, or Cindy chose Lower Woods Harbour
I saw the house from afar on the web, and instantly fell in love. There was a hole in the roof, water poured down to the kitchen, the rooms were small and dark, it was oh so cold when I visited (and especially when I slept there during efforts to get to know the space and what to do with it). But with the help of Cindy (who did the interior finishing and bought the furnture) her brother-in-law Ricky (carpentry), and the latter's wife (Cindy's sister) Romelda (who brought ideas) the place turned into a lovely, wide-open haven--a joy to stay in and relax on rainy days, and a fine spot from which to watch the magnificent sunsets directly out the front door on Cockawit Bay.
What makes this House unique
Being away from the tourist crowd. Making contact with fine local people, and through them learning of the local fishing industry--and where to get the best fresh lobster and fish (the harbour is just minutes away). Being in a place suitable to total relaxation and lazing about, but also a fine base from which to visit astounding beaches, other nature sites, and cultural riches (the Acadien village to the west), all within easy distance. Whether you wish to be active, or just to sit back and read and snooze, this house will give you a fine experience--everyone who has stayed there comes away amazed at the peaceful, warm atmosphere inside, and the beauty of Cockawit Bay, whether seen from inside or from the water's edge (the neighbour who owns the field across the street does not mind if people spend time down there). In short, come and enjoy. I wish I could get away more often to enjoy the house and Cindy's hospitality.

Beautiful place to relax
We had a very enjoyable two days at this charming house. Great place to relax and enjoy the quiet and peaceful area. Darla and Cindy were extremely nice. The wine and jams were an unexpected delight. A beautiful drive to restaurants (about 20 Minutes). Visited nearby Arcadian Village. It was a great friendly, informative stop.
Warm and inviting Home wonderful place to stay.
We are a large family who spend the weekend in this cosy home celebrating my sons 50th Birthday. Many thanks to our great hosts Cindy and her daughter for making our stay a memorable one we will not forget what great hosts they are for going out of there way to supply us with everything we needed for our weekend stay .
They brought us a bottle of vine and a jar of homemade jam which was very much appreciated. This home is very clean and I would recommend it to anyone for a nice vacation. P H.
Family of four...had a great time
We had a great relaxing week in this beautiful cottage. You couldn't ask for nicer people than Cindy and her daughter who provided us with great information on what to see locally, the best beaches, a good restaurant to try, etc. Cindy brought us over a bottle of homemade wine which we enjoyed while watching the amazing sunsets from the front deck. She also brought some fishing lures for the boys to try squid jigging on the wharfs down the road. We did several day trips which included whale watching from Lunenburg and the Acadian Village in Pubinco. The cottage is nicely updated and spotless. The boys enjoyed the high speed internet access as well. Our last night at the cottage, Cindy came over with a homemade chocolate pie which was a big hit. We had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to our friends. Thanks again Cindy and Walter.

Thank you so much for your hospitality and to Cindy for the jams and pickle preserves, they were much appreciated!
Our 85 year old parents really enjoyed having the bedroom and bathroom on the main floor.
We loved the amazing sunsets, views and of course your beautiful and very comfortable house. We visited Yarmouth, Shelburne and the Acadian Village in Pubinco and did a lot of scenic drives on the Lighthouse Route. Next time we visit this area, we will bring our motorcycle. Many blessings upon this house!
Fabulously enjoyable experience
This was one of the best vacation spots of our life. A charming cottage away from the city in Woods Harbour, directly across from the ocean with water and sunset views stunning enough to make any picture look like it has been photoshopped. Cindy came by and we shared a happy hour glass of Nova Scotia wine accompanied by NS cheese and crackers purchased along the way. We asked her to join us and she collected the names and the flavors to make recommendations for future guests. She told us not to buy anything else for the house, just call her and she’d deliver. Cindy is super knowledgeable about the area and gave us recommendations and honest feedback and asked for ours in return. She told us about restaurants and attractions. Next night she came back and dropped off a “little” something for us to try. From her personal bounty she brought us homemade – everything! Homemade salsa, two types of homemade jelly, and two bottles of homemade wine; she apologized for being out of canned beets, her specialty. We found that this was just a kindness precedent for all of Nova Scotia. Our family had a fabulous time, thanks in no small part to the thoughfulness of our kind hosts, who regularly went out of their way to make our stay exceptional. My hope for New England is that we all catch the Nova Scotia Bug!
Warm, Inviting and Peaceful
During the third week of September 2013, my husband and I had the good fortune to spend a relaxing week in Walter’s absolutely charming home. Situated in the quaint and friendly town of Barrington, we found this rental to be everything, and more than advertised, the home, which has been beautifully updated, is warm and inviting. The atmosphere is that of home rather than a house. The property is a nice size, and well maintained with a lovely ocean view. We loved the wonderful mix of cosy century home living, coupled with the luxuries of updated appliances within a nicely stocked kitchen. We enjoyed the comfy living room which faces the ocean and boasts breath talking sunsets. We were well received by Cindy who is the house keeper (lives off sight), and Remelda who provided us with terrific local information. She has a good knowledge of the area and gave us excellent site seeing advice. Although, never intrusive, both ladies made herself available as needed, and were both personable and well organized. As Walter mentions in his description of the property, the ladies are more than willing to provide fish or lobster dishes on request. As suggested, we did take advantage of the offer and had the best fish n chips dinner EVER! Walter was both prompt and very helpful in correspondence. Overall it was a pleasurable experience, and we would not hesitate to return.

How pleased we all were to have these fine guests stay at our place and to get such positive feedback from them. They were kind to the two local ladies who make sure there is nothing lacking in the house and advise on the best local spots to visit. Throughout, they relished the warm atmosphere and size of the accommodations, and the beautiful Woods Harbour sunsets. And before taking off for elsewhere, they made sure the place was spotless. We'd be happy to have them back anytime.
The house is on the road, on the side opposite the ocean, directly facing west onto Cockawit Bay. When approaching from Barrington, the house is on your right, about six or seven properties past an abandoned yellow three story building (also on your right). On your left at that point is the entrance to the harbour and a fishplant. If your are coming from the Yarmouth side, there's a three story white building on your right (the museum), followed by a Baptist church on your left, and the house is six or seven properties on your left from that. Everyone will know the house renovated by the 'doctor' and will be pleased to direct you. If you have any problems, ask for Cindy Goreham, who looks after the house.
