LOCATION

The apartment is situated on the Prinseneiland. I will give you some information about our location in relation to the rest of the city.

First of all, our neighborhood is still part of the Centre of Amsterdam. It is a very quiet and safe 'little village' right next to the 'busy' part of the city. There are still a few little shipyards but most of the warehouses are converted into residences.

The city is more or less built in circles around the centre. We are the western part of the centre, nearby Central Station. That is at this moment I think the most popular part.

Next to our apartment lies the famous Jordaan. The Jordaan is a small part of the city, famous for the narrow streets with little shops, cafes and restaurants. We are divided from the Jordaan by a very nice shopping street. In this street there are two normal supermarkets (open 8AM/10PM), bakeries, a butcher and two organic supermarkets. There are all kind of shops, cafés, nice little restaurants everywhere around us.

We think Amsterdam is more a “big village”. That is, the part where you want to be as a visitor. You can walk everything, but certainly on the bike everything is really nearby.

The address is Prinseneiland 10, Amsterdam if you want to look it up on Google Maps. The street view is still from the period we were building, a few years ago. But one of the pictures you can click shows the finished building.

Walking distance to the Central Station 15 minutes (bike 7 minutes), Jordaan 10 minutes (bike 5 minutes), Dam 17 minutes (bike 10 minutes), and Rijks Museum / Van Gogh / Stedelijk Museum (contamporary/modern art) 35 minutes (bike 20 minutes), Anne Frank Museum 10minutes (bike 5 minutes).

If you want to explore more of the city we have bikes for rent and there are trams and buses to all parts of the city at a 4-minute walk. Apart from the general maps that we provide, we also made a map of our neighbourhood. A selection of breakfast-/lunch-places/restaurants/supermarkets is pointed out on this map. We also have “around the corner” a few very nice and good restaurants. We are happy to advise you and/or make reservations for you.

A delightful stay in a peaceful neighborhhood

  • 5 of 5

What a delightful location in the Prinseneiland Island area. We were less than a thirty-minute walk from the main tourist attractions and we had the canal on one side and a quiet neighborhood on the other. The only noise we encountered during the day was the laughter of children swimming and diving in the canal. The location is a stretch for folks who are elderly or do not like to walk, but it suited us perfectly.

The rooms are spacious and clean and the price was quite reasonable considering the exorbitant hotel prices in the tourist area. The family room upstairs is large and has an angular couch to stretch out and relax. We stored our breakfast in the small refrigerator and ate at the large glass-top table every morning. WiFi reception was excellent. The proprietors even have a small collection of movie DVD’s to view. We took advantage of that after a long day of tourist activities. The upstairs is connected to the downstairs by a metal spiral staircase. The downstairs area has separate shower and toilet rooms and the closets are deep and spacious. The queen bed was comfortable. We slept well after our many sightseeing activities. The main entry area on the ground floor has a bookcase with many books, business cards and brochures on things to see, do and eat in the region.

The proprietors are friendly and respected our privacy. They provided us with a full array of phone numbers in case we had any questions or needs. We used their services for a drive to the airport for our departure. In short, we would not hesitate to stay there again when our wanderlust takes us back to Amsterdam.

A Gem!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Wharf House in the beginning of July. The moment we saw it, we knew it was going to be a great fit. It did not disappoint. I was traveling with my two daughters, 25 and 29. Jackie greeted us and showed us around the house. She gave us great tips regarding the neighborhood, where to eat, what to do and where to do laundry. We had plenty of room and felt very at home. Wouter, provided many nice touches, such as a local cell phone, great maps, treats in the kitchen and very good WIFI. The Wharf House is in a quiet neighborhood, but an easy walk to everything you want to do. Several grocery stores are close by and lots of restaurants. I loved walking around the neighborhood. Across from the house, on the canal is a yellow submarine, there is also a little petting farm across the canal. Very fun. A few suggestions for Amsterdam. When you arrive at the train station, buy a transportation pass. It's totally worth it. Make reservations at all the museums you want to go to ahead of time. Long lines can be avoided. Eat ethnic, great restaurants everywhere. Go to as many outdoor markets as possible. Enjoy, we loved Amsterdam and the Wharf House.

Highly recommended!

  • 5 of 5

Our visit to Amsterdam could not have been more comfortable! The Wharf House is in a unique, beautiful, and quiet location, close to all major sites, and our host, Wouter, could not have been more accommodating. In addition to this spacious and well-appointed apartment, we were able to rent bikes to tour the city, and even had a personal tour of the city via canal on Wouter's boat--a highlight of our visit. The Wharf House will not disappoint!

Delightful!

  • 5 of 5

We rented through VRBO & were so pleased to find that the location, the accommodation itself & Wouter's warm welcome & help all worked beautifully to make our stay memorable. Wouter loaned us a cell phone for reservations & local calls, took us to the airport (for a very reasonable fee) & pointed us to restaurants & sites he likes. In all, I'd recommend this rental without reservation.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

We have rented quite a few times with HomeAway and this is by far the best place we've stayed. The location is perfect - just removed enough from the city center to feel relaxing and just close enough to have complete access to everything. Wouter was warm and super helpful regarding transit, grocery shopping, site seeing, etc. and the apartment is even better than the photos (easily one of the most comfortable beds we've ever had in a rental - bonus!). Cannot say enough about this beautiful property and lovely hosts - hope to be back again soon!

A perfect property on a tranquil island yet a short walk from everything.

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to stay for our first trip to Amsterdam! How can one possibly be within walking distance of so much and yet to feel like you're on a tranquil island? The answer is actually to be on a tranquil island, as is this outstanding property. A five minute walk across a quaint one-lane drawbridge brings you to a grocery market and a tram stop; a ten-minute walk takes you to the bustling center of the city. The immaculate unit is exactly as described, and Wouter and Liesbeth are kind, considerate, and immensely helpful hosts. In summary: Perfect in every way!
