I (Tom) live upstairs at 105 Hamilton Place with my wife Alex and our two little kids, Cecily and Simon. I am a painter and work from home which means if my renters need anything they need only ring my doorbell and I am happy to help.
Tom Sanford purchased this studio in 2010
My wife and I have lived in Harlem since 2002, and my history with the neighborhood began in the mid 1990s when I attended Columbia. We have loved the convenience and character of the neighborhood for years and feel very lucky that we were able to acquire our little townhouse which gave us the room to start our family in Hamilton Heights, Harlem.
The cuban coffee at El Rey del Sandwich is superb. Perhaps you will have one after an early morning swim or a few sets of tennis at Riverbank State Park before you take a short stroll through City College's beautiful campus, past Alexander Hamilton's historical home and then the Royal Tenenbaum's house to the Convent Avenue Baptist Church. But there are so many ways to spend a morning in Harlem. And of course if you can just hop on the subway and the world's greatest city is your oyster!
We were arranged to live in a basement. There is no window in the room. However, there is a hidden door in a closet. The hidden door leads to a garage, but it can not be fully closed.
We stayed there for three nights; however, one night, when we were sleeping, the overhead alarm started to make loud noises. It was about at three or four o'çlock in the morning. It took us two times to turn it off.
I do not think the room is appropriate for anyone to stay for safety concerns.
Tom is a terrific host- the apartment is clean and well equipped. Only a few blocks to the subway on a quiet street- coffee shops, and restaurants just down the block. Would definitely stay again.
The studio is perfect for a couple or even a family with a small child! Tom was a great host and everything you could need was a small walking distance away!
We had such a pleasant stay here!
The property is super modern, a big open space and you feel completely at home.
As a plus, the bed is super comfortable!! You are guaranteed to have a great night's sleep before another big day ahead.
Only slight downfall was how much you can hear from upstairs - it didn't disturb us much, but most mornings we would wake up to someone walking around, cleaning/moving furniture etc. This wouldn't start until 7.30/8am so it wasn't a big deal!
Tom is a wonderful host and was really helpful by answering any questions about our stay and the city.
We would definitely recommend staying in this property, and we hope to return again soon!
We really enjoyed our stay in this cozy apartment. It is well situated to subway lines that can get you anywhere you want to go quickly. We enjoyed exploring the nearby Upper West Side especially. My wife and I are big Seinfeld fans and there were several notable locations very close by so that was a plus. Tom gave great arrival instructions and was very helpful and understanding when we hit some snags in our departure. I would definitely not hesitate to stay here again!
Tom is very organized and timely with his rental. He also was so kind as to hold our bags until the room was officially ready for check-in. We didn't have any issues with the room, it met our needs for a nice clean place to stay.
