Space 1,800 sq. ft.
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, 6 Sleeps

Located on a secluded, winding country road. Set among rolling fields and forests, surrounded by gardens, waterfall streams and stone walls the house is both rusticly simple and modern at the same time. A four season communion with nature.

Hand restored Greek Revival farmhouse. Gourmet kitchen with radiant heated hand cut local bluestone floor and cozy heating stove with full views of gardens through panoramic floor to ceiling windows. Two comfortable downstairs sitting rooms with original hand cut pine floors, one with woodburning stove and other with TV. Mahogony walled wet space with rainshower and huge windows allow you take 'outdoor' showers year round. Upstairs three bedrooms (2 queens, 2 twins) study and bathroom with soaking tub.

Fieldstone patio with Weber BBQ, stone fire pit, covered side porch, streamside hammock, and many other restful spots throughout the grounds and outbuildings.

A secluded escape from hectic city life in the ecologically protected NYC watershed (this is the water we drink.) Streams and wetlands afford abundant wildlife watching. Eagles soar overhead and coyotes howl at night. On a clear night gaze at the Milky Way and watch the shooting stars fall to earth.

Great hiking year round and skiing at Plattekill and Belleayre in the winter. Cooperstown and the All Star Village are both short antique, wine and cheese shop lined drive away (via college town Oneonta) and SUNY Delhi maintains beautiful hiking trails and a world class golf course nearby.

A great place to get away from it all with some friends or family, especially for those who love to cook. Explore the local villages and farms by day and share a home cooked meal or enjoy the local restaurants at night.

Guestbook comments from the owner

He was there over the email every step of the way, as well as his friend at the place to get us situated. The house itself is big, clean and very up to date. The yard has a great vibe to it too with all the Christmas lights, stream and swings. The house had all the essentials, even toothbrushes for guests. Kitchen is loaded with all kind of spices you can only imagine.overall a great stay.

Simply delightful! Loved this property for so many reasons!

  • 5 of 5

Here are the reasons we loved this property:

1. Jeff (#1), the owner, is very thorough, responds promptly and has equipped the house with everything you need- and even things you didn't realize you would want after you arrived. There is an iron and ironing board, the cupboards have spices, tons of paper products, games, excellent wifi... I could go on and on.

2. Jeff (#2), the caretaker who lives next door, will greet you upon arrival and can tell you wonderful stories about growing up in the house. We enjoyed his company so much we had him over for dinner.

3. The kitchen is very well equipped. We made a huge Father's Day dinner and had everything we needed to cook and bake. The stove and oven are gas.

4. The outside area has a hammock, (my favorite spot) a swing, a Weber grill, and a fire pit. There is also a brook that flows right down the side of the property and creates the most relaxing atmosphere.

5. Two cars fit in the driveway and there is additional parking across the street.

6. We took a wonderful walk on the country roads- about 4 miles and saw tons of butterflies, cows, horses, and deer.

7. The towels and bedding were high quality and the upstairs bathroom was supplied with toiletries in case you have forgotten anything.

8. I grew up in an old farm house and this one has SO much charm. The kitchen has a stone floor, but the majority of the home has wooden floors. The downstairs shower has a rain shower head and a hand held shower head and the entire room is the shower. The upstairs bathroom has a claw foot tub. The dining area is surrounded by windows and overlooks the beautiful bubbling brook and back yard. There are 4 bedrooms and 2 couches. Two bedrooms could each be considered as a master bedroom, another room has a sitting area with a table and a single bed, and the fourth bedroom has two twin beds.

My kids, ages 17 and 21, loved this house, too. They never turned on the T.V. and enjoyed exploring the property and lounging in the comfortable beds.

If you are considering booking this property do not wait. I know it books up fast!

Beautiful farm house in beautiful area!

  • 5 of 5

Some friends and I were looking for a quiet, relaxing Memorial Day weekend in the country and that is exactly what we got! Bear Hill Farm is a lovely house with great features, well stocked kitchen and an easy, open feel. Both Jeff the owner and Jeff the caretaker were lovely to deal with and made the experience even more enjoyable. We will definitely go back there again!

Luxury in the country

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Bear Hill Farm! Jeff was the perfect host, very attentive and also flexible. The house is just fabulous with great art, nice luxurious touches on linen and towels. House is not really suitable for toddlers due to the steep steps, but it didn't stop us from having a great time and the kids loved playing in the snow outside

Clean, beautiful and well stocked

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a long winter weekend in this beautiful farmhouse. The beds were comfortable, everything was clean and the kitchen was well stocked. The views from the house were serene and our kids enjoyed playing on the swing outside. Although the house is close to the road, I could probably use my fingers to count the number of cars that went buy over the three days we were there. The caretaker met us shortly after we arrived and told us the history of the house and answered any questions we had. Our goal was to get out of the city and enjoy some quiet family time which is exactly what we did. I highly recommend this house and host. Thank you!

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

Bear Hill Farm is simply amazing. There is a lot of eclectic art around the house that are thought provoking and make great conversation starters. There are a lot of comfortable seating options around the house and two heaters that warm up the place. The bathrooms are interesting - one has a shower (no tub), toilet, sink and the other has a toilet, sink, and tub (no shower). The three bedrooms are on the second floor and are very comfortable. You must be careful on the steps though as one of us slipped on the second to top step and tumbled down the steps (no major injuries - whew!) The 6 of us stayed in for most of the time during our 3 night stay, playing games, eating/drinking, watching netflix/youtube. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could possibly need and the dining table is nice and big, overlooking the backyard. Our dog also loved the place and the snow in the yard. There is not much to do in the immediate area other than go on walks and hikes. The 4-mile walk around the house was quiet and easy. There is an easy hike (bramley mountain hike) a 30-minute drive away. The caretaker (Jeff) and owner (also Jeff) are wonderful, and we'd recommend this place for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with friends and family.

Owner's Response: Sharon, we're glad that you all enjoyed a peaceful quiet New Year's weekend away from it all. If you come back up in the summer we'll have to send you kayaking or horseback riding near by and recommend some of our local restaurants and other hidden away nightlife spots :) Happy New Year!
