Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Delhi - Bear Hill Farm

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, 6 Sleeps

Located on a secluded, winding country road. Set among rolling fields and forests, surrounded by gardens, waterfall streams and stone walls the house is both rusticly simple and modern at the same time. A four season communion with nature.

Hand restored Greek Revival farmhouse. Gourmet kitchen with radiant heated hand cut local bluestone floor and cozy heating stove with full views of gardens through panoramic floor to ceiling windows. Two comfortable downstairs sitting rooms with original hand cut pine floors, one with woodburning stove and other with TV. Mahogony walled wet space with rainshower and huge windows allow you take 'outdoor' showers year round. Upstairs three bedrooms (2 queens, 2 twins) study and bathroom with soaking tub.

Fieldstone patio with Weber BBQ, stone fire pit, covered side porch, streamside hammock, and many other restful spots throughout the grounds and outbuildings.

A secluded escape from hectic city life in the ecologically protected NYC watershed (this is the water we drink.) Streams and wetlands afford abundant wildlife watching. Eagles soar overhead and coyotes howl at night. On a clear night gaze at the Milky Way and watch the shooting stars fall to earth.

Great hiking year round and skiing at Plattekill and Belleayre in the winter. Cooperstown and the All Star Village are both short antique, wine and cheese shop lined drive away (via college town Oneonta) and SUNY Delhi maintains beautiful hiking trails and a world class golf course nearby.

A great place to get away from it all with some friends or family, especially for those who love to cook. Explore the local villages and farms by day and share a home cooked meal or enjoy the local restaurants at night.

Guestbook comments from the owner

He was there over the email every step of the way, as well as his friend at the place to get us situated. The house itself is big, clean and very up to date. The yard has a great vibe to it too with all the Christmas lights, stream and swings. The house had all the essentials, even toothbrushes for guests. Kitchen is loaded with all kind of spices you can only imagine.overall a great stay.

Great house lost in the woods with crazy kitchen

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing 4-day stay at Jeff's house.

We had the chance to meet him and he spent some time with us to show us how everything works in the house.

I like to cook and I've never seen a kitchen so well equipped. There is absolutely everything for any kind of cooking.

The landscape around the house is gorgeous. It was all white when we went there and we could hear the soft sound of a tiny waterfall, a free feet away from the living room.

We were 2 couples and 3 kids and the house was comfortable for all of us.

A great way to spend a long weekend away from the City!

Just what the doctor ordered!

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful time at Bear Hill Farm. Our purpose was to take our daughters away from the stress of their endless work opening a general store in Coxsackie. Surprise! We were hit by Hurrican Matthew and had to evacuate and we ran away to Bear Hill. We all reveled in the peace and quiet and beautiful surroundings and all regained our mental health. The house was so comfortable and spacious and lovely. We did some exploring---went to the Taste of the Catskills in Delhi, and took the 4 mile hike that Jeff recommended, which was so beautiful. Jeff Bird the caretaker was sweet and friendly and let us know all we needed to know. Jeff England the owner was gracious and welcoming. We will remember our beautiful healing time and look forward to returning to Bear Hill Farm!

Had a great experience, loved the character, design, and feel of the house. It's great for a small group, plenty of room and the kitchen and dining lay out are perfect for preparing food, eating, and working all in the same space. It has an urbane vibe in the midst of dairy farms, very appealing. There's always the sound of the creek behind the house and wind chimes, very peaceful. You'll be well taken care of and sad to leave.

Amazing house!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic place to stay. The house itself (and the grounds) was one of the highlights of our trip. We looked forward to heading home after a day of hiking, boating, watching baseball games, or visiting Cooperstown.

The kitchen is beautiful and well stocked. Everything works perfectly. Our kids loved lounging around or exploring while we cooked. And the fire pit was a big hit with them too!

The place is cozy and spacious, very airy. It was great to have all of the windows open, even the one night it rained.

Jeff was extremely responsive via email, and left great advice for exploring the area, the various functions of the house (wifi, etc.). He was a great host!

A wonderful home for a getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were so pleased with this house. We were here to prep for our daughter's wedding nearby and loved this spacious home with 4 separate bedrooms, lots of workspace and Nice entertaining areas.

We were sent a guide in advance with details on the house; directions to nearby towns, how to work the heating, run the Internet, music and tv systems, and directions to local markets and galleries. It even told the best way to lay a fire in the potbellied stoves and fire pit for us urban types!

The house is an 1850s farmhouse that has been renovated well. We got the feeling the owner is a fabulous cook as the gourmet kitchen not only has all new appliances, but every fancy kitchen machine, high end pots, and lots of barware and serving trays. We found a huge supply of spices, teas, oils, wine and jellies and even syrup for the hummingbird feeders! The baths were similarly supplied and the beds were very comfortable . Downstairs are two living rooms, a bathroom and the main room with kitchen that has a large dining table and seats at the kitchen island as well. Upstairs were a bathroom, 3 full bedrooms and a fourth room with office equipment, big craft table, small library and a double trundle bed. The outside patio had a fire pit (and wood), picnic table and big gas Bbq. The other side of the home had a covered porch with a rocking chair. The huge yard had a stream and tons of flowers, fruits, and berries, which we were encouraged to pick. The house and outside areas were well lit, and there was plenty of hot water for the baths and kitchen.

We only would change a couple of things here. Less sheer curtains in the bathrooms, a hand held sprayer for the claw foot tub would be nice. A few things to warn you about would be that the stairs were a bit steep for grandma and the upstairs floors are creaky, but in keeping with atmosphere. Cell phone service is spotty in the area but Jeff has installed a real landline with long distance and a strong wireless network so it won't affect you at the house. There's even a tv and speaker system in the home.

Jeff, the owner and Jeff, the caretaker, were both extremely welcoming, and went out of their way - both before and during our visit-- to help us get the most out of our stay. It was so enjoyable that we all agreed we would love to come back for another more leisurely visit!
