Casita Cynthia is a beautiful luxury condominium in the heart of Santa Fe, at the El Corazon de Santa Fe condominium complex. It is one of the most desirable units in one of the most desirable properties in Santa Fe, on the ground floor, with views of the mountains and the historic East Side from the spacious adobe-wall-enclosed patio. It truly is a short, easy walk to the Plaza and to the O'Keeffe (2-4 blocks, depending on how you count, five minutes, on safe sidewalks). The location is ideal.

RATE NOTES: I have daily rates and discounted weekly and monthly rates, which vary with the seasons. The platform's rate calendar only displays the daily rate, not the discounted weekly and monthly rates. You can get them by entering a longer date range, or I can send you a detailed yearly rate table upon request.

CALENDAR NOTES: I keep my calendar up to date, so that if my calendar shows availability, the condo should be available. Occasionally there is a short lag time between a guest expressing a desire to book and making a deposit, or when a guest requests a hold while researching flights; I try to note any of those holds here. I will respond quickly if you have questions about availability. Feel free to call, e-mail, or text any time. I'm usually in the Mountain Time Zone or the Atlantic Time Zone, so late night/early morning inquiries from other time zones may receive a response several hours later. NOTE: A service is scheduled for 9am March 27, on the patio.

MASTER BEDROOM: The master bedroom has a new king sized bed and new luxury linens. The master bath has dual sinks, granite counter tops, and a large slate & marble-tiled walk-in shower. French doors open onto the private adobe-walled patio from the master bedroom.

STUDY/GUEST ROOM: The study has a full-size sleeper sofa (very high end, with memory foam mattress: honestly & truly extremely comfortable). This room could accommodate a visitor or a third guest during your stay, but it is tight when used as a bedroom--when the sofa is opened there is not a lot of extra room to move around. The bathroom adjacent to the study has a single sink and a slate-tiled shower.

The study has a full-sized desk and ergonomic work chair. This is a recent change; photos coming soon to replace the photo with the second TV, which is no longer there.

KITCHEN: The kitchen has Jenn-Air appliances and granite counter tops and gourmet cooking equipment. There are everyday dishes and fancy china for your special occasions.

LAUNDRY: The laundry area includes a washer and dryer. Ironing board, iron, and detergent.

LIVING ROOM: The living room includes a down-filled sofa, "smart TV," and gas-fired kiva fireplace. French doors open onto the private patio. An authentic Knoll womb chair provides the ultimate in comfortable seating.

DINING AREA: The dining area is between the kitchen and the living room, with an antique Spanish Colonial dining table, and seating for six. The antique country French cupboard holds fancy china and glassware.

PATIO: The adobe-walled private patio is shady, with professionally maintained gardens, a dining table, and Lafuma lounge chairs.

AMENITIES AND DECOR: There are slate floors with radiant heating throughout the home. The gas kiva fireplace in the living room turns on instantly. There is air conditioning for summer.

I am recently retired from the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, in the extensive state museum system, and the condo is furnished with much locally-made furniture and southwestern art.

FREE UNDERGROUND PARKING: The condo comes with its own parking space in the secure underground parking lot on the premises. Parking in central Santa Fe can be tight, so this space is a real plus.

FREE EXERCISE ROOM: There is an exercise room on the premises. There is no swimming pool, but Santa Fe has a several excellent community pools, with fees of a few dollars. The Fort Marcy pool is within walking distance, and the Genoveva Chavez Center, with a spectacular large pool, is a 10-minute drive away.

CONDO LAYOUT: The condo is ideal for a single person or couple, and can easily accommodate an additional guest during a stay. It would be tight for two couples; the couple in the smaller room would envy the couple in the master bedroom. It works for parents and a teen or adult son or daughter, but it is not suitable for a family that includes small children: there is not much space for play and there is some not-childproof art and furniture.

If you have questions about whether or not the condo will work for your party, don't hesitate to ask and I'll do my best to answer you honestly and right away.

ACCESSIBILITY: There is an elevator from the underground parking area to the condo complex courtyard, and the unit is a short walk along safe paths from the elevator. There are two short steps (about 4") from the sidewalk to the front door), but otherwise the home is all level and on the ground floor. There are no steps out to the patio, and there is a back gate that opens onto the Grant Street sidewalk from the patio without steps, however there is no parking on Grant Street, and the patio door must be locked from the inside, so this no-steps access is not a true entrance and exit. Hence, the home is very comfortable, easy, and safe for anyone with mobility issues, but not truly ADA accessible. I'm happy to answer any questions about accessibility.

LONG TERM RENTALS: I welcome inquiries from legislators, the film industry, house-hunters, and others seeking longer term rentals. For longer term rentals, please contact me with your desired dates and I will send you a quote. Month-long rentals include a housekeeping visit mid-month. Additional housekeeping can be arranged.

Rentals longer than one month may have a different deposit and payment schedule, to be discussed during booking.

If you are interested in a month-long rental that spans 2 different months, or anything else that doesn't seem to fit my rate schedule, just ask for quote, and I will try to accommodate your plans.

RENTALS 30 DAYS OR LONGER ARE NOT TAXED. I will adjust your quote and remove the tax from the quote (this platform's system adds it and I need to remove it manually). If you wish to book for 30 days or longer, it is best not to use "Instant Confirmation," as you will be paying the tax, and I will have to either cancel your reservation and send you a new quote, or refund the tax. It is simpler if you contact me with a request, and I then adjust your quote and remove the tax, and send the quote back to you for review and booking. I will do this very quickly.

CANCELLATION POLICY: 50% of your payment is due upon booking and 50% is due 21 days before arrival. If you cancel and I'm able to re-book the unit, I will refund the amount I am able to recoup. If you cancel before you've made the final payment, then only your first payment is in jeopardy of not being refunded.

VRBO/Homeaway offers reasonably priced vacation insurance. You will see a quote for this insurance at checkout and can examine the policy before you purchase it. The cost is about 4-5% of your rental payment. I feel confident in recommending this insurance. It has paid claims for two guests, one who became sick right before travel and another who could not travel due to a severe winter storm which closed I-40.

TAXES AND FEES: In accordance with New Mexico law, I collect 8.313% Gross Receipts Tax and 7% Lodging tax. NOTE: NO TAX ON STAYS OF 30 DAYS OR LONGER. Quotes for 30-day stays may show a tax. If so, I will adjust the quote and remove the tax.

NO CLEANING FEE. Exit cleaning is included in your rate.

Pet Fee: $75 (one-time fee, not daily, dogs only).

Third Guest Fee: $50 (one-time fee; not daily). If you use "Instant Booking" I will invoice you separately for this fee, as the system doesn't add it.

Service Fee: In February 2016, HomeAway/VRBO implemented a service fee, which is a percentage of the rental payment. I have no control over this fee, which is established, collected, and retained by the company. To offset the cost of this fee to travelers, I eliminated my exit cleaning fee. NO CLEANING FEE.

Security Deposit/Damage Insurance: $200, refundable within one week of departure (usually more quickly), for stays under one month. This is charged to your credit card on your second payment, 21 days before arrival. If you would prefer to purchase damage insurance through VRBO/HomeAway, starting at $59 for $1,500 of damage insurance, please let me know, and I can adjust your quote.

Longer rentals, including for film industry or the NM legislative session stays, may require a larger refundable security deposit and/or insurance, to be discussed at the time of booking.

HOLD POLICY: I can put a 24-hour hold on a reservation to allow time to make airline reservations.

PRE-ARRIVAL INFO & ACCESS TO THE CONDO: Upon request or upon booking, I will send you detailed info about the condo, the neighborhood, and entry to the home and parking garage. Upon booking, you will be invited to access VRBO/HomeAway's mobil app. I'm always available to answer questions about the condo, Santa Fe, and New Mexico travel.

CHECK-IN & CHECK-OUT: Check-in time is 5pm. Check-out time is 10am. We accommodate requests for early check-in and late check-out when we can.

SPECIAL REQUESTS: We leave a welcome basket of snacks and New Mexico red wine. If you have any special needs or requests, please let me know and we will try to accommodate you.

About Cynthia Baughman

Cynthia recently retired from the New Mexico Department of Cultural affairs as editor of 'El Palacio,' the magazine of the extensive state museum system. She and her husband love the cultural life and the beauty and history of Santa Fe and the whole state of New Mexico. If you would like recommendations for museums, restaurants, day trips (or longer) just ask.

After many years of visiting New Mexico, Cynthia and her husband moved permanently from the Philadelphia area to Tesuque Village (a few minutes north of Santa Fe) in 2010. Born in Tennessee, Cynthia grew up in Washington DC, got a BA in English from Dartmouth College and an MFA in Creative Writing from Cornell, and taught writing at Ithaca College and Temple University before moving to Santa Fe to work in Cultural Affairs. Cynthia and her husband have two adult children who work in the film industry (sometimes in New Mexico!) and live in New York state, and two small dogs from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter. A frequent vacation destination is Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.

In retirement, Cynthia volunteers in the Photo Archives at the New Mexico History Museum (on the Plaza in Santa Fe, and a few blocks from the condo).

El Corazon de Santa Fe means 'The Heart of Santa Fe,' and it's the truth. This location is ideal: a quiet, residential block just steps from the best restaurants, museums, and shopping of Santa Fe. The nearby Plaza throbs with life, and the great Spanish Market and Indian Market happen around you. Marcy Street, with excellent restaurants and shopping, is one block away. The Lensic Performing Arts Center is a short 3-4 block walk away. Located on the north side of town, the condo provides easy access by car to the Santa Fe Ski Valley and the Santa Fe Opera.

What makes this condo unique

The shady garden patio provides a quiet haven behind adobe walls, and gives you a view of the snow-capped mountains of the Ski Valley and the gentler Sun Mountain of Santa Fe's Museum Hill. Underground parking means your car is always at the ready for jaunts to the Farmer's Market, Ten Thousand Waves Spa, Ski Santa Fe, or the Opera, or for day trips to Bandelier Monument, Los Alamos, or Taos. But you may just want to keep your car parked for days---there are so many magical places within walking distance. It is possible to come without a car and spend your entire trip walking the historic Plaza area, or to rent a car just for a few days of trips to spots such as Acoma Pueblo, Taos, and the historic mining town--now arts town--Madrid.

El Corazon de Santa Fe has an on-site exercise center in the Clubhouse, and a garden area with a community grill. The property is quiet and secure, in the heart of downtown, in easy walking distance to museums, restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, historic sites, and performing arts.

The room is small and there is very little space left when the bed is open, hence, I consider the unit a one-bedroom with a study/guest room, not a true two-bedroom unit. Two people could sleep here, and they would have a quiet window to an inside pathway and a private bathroom, but they would not have the space that the folks in the master bedroom are enjoying.

Home Run

I am one of those people who obsess over finding the perfect rental/lodging for vacation. If Cynthia's place seems to hit your bells, stop looking anywhere else and book it. It's the best equipped rental we've ever had. Everything seems to be here and generous amounts of everything you need to stay for five days. The patio is glorious, private and very green. We enjoyed breakfast and siestas out there.

Everywhere you look is beautiful southwestern art, which is fitting in this city of art. Generous bedroom and the bed is wonderful with great pillows. We only got to try the living room fire once as our weather was hot, but it added a great ambiance.

The location is awesome. We walked everywhere and only drove to go to Taos and Ghost Ranch & Plaza Blanca for the day. The condo is super clean, beautiful with Cynthia's art, garage parking and perfect for a couple or three people. Book it! We hope to return some day.

Always welcoming at Cynthia's Casita

Cynthia's Casita is in tiptop condition. You will come for the short walk to museums and the Plaza but you will stay for the fine king-size bed, the enclosed patio, the sunlight streaming through the French doors in the morning -- and Cynthia and Calliope's generous anticipation of your needs.

We have stayed in several condos at the El Corazon over several years and Unit #1 was the most comfortable and well equipped of all. When returning to Santa Fe, we would definitely try to get this unit.

We had a wonderful stay in this quiet well maintained condo. Very comfy bed and upscale kitchen.

We loved the nearby restaurants and museums within walking distance. Private courtyard patio was perfect for relaxing outdoors. Beautiful kitchen and baths. Would stay here again next time. Underground parking with elevator a plus. Shopping cart a big help when bringing home groceries and farmers market purchases. Very well maintained complex.

Loved Casita Cynthia

We arrived tired out after a long flight from the east and then an hours drive from Albuquerque. We were in no mood for problems! The very specific instructions for entry were spot-on so we entered the apartment with no problem. When we entered we so delighted, we gave a sigh of relief.

The apartment was just as described and pictured. Plus it was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated (at least to our taste). We had not had time to pick up essentials for the next morning and were delighted to find coffee, biscuits, and cream and in addition a bottle of wine, salsa and chips and a few other goodies. The kitchen as well as the rest of the apartment was well appointed—nice amenities in the baths,etc.

The best part though was the location of the apartment which made it easy even for two senior citizens to walk to museums, stores and many restaurants. We used our car to go the Railyard market and special restaurants like The Compound and out to Ghost Ranch,etc. interestingly we did not need to use the parking lot because we had a handicapped sticker which allowed us to park on the street. That was a real plus. Another plus was the patio off the living room—quite lovely sitting there in the afternoon or for cocktails! All in all a great place to spend 10 days. We would return in a heartbeat.

PS. Though we had no problems while there, we had several nice email exchanges with the owner who lives nearby.

We try to be accessible and communicative and transparent, but there is still a leap of faith involved, and we are so glad that you were not disappointed. And thanks for pointing out that the City of Santa Fe offers free parking at all meters and city lots to holders of a handicapped placard. We also have some handicapped spots in our underground parking lot, right next to the elevator, in addition to our assigned spot. Casita Cynthia is in the heart of historic Santa Fe, a few short blocks (a five-minute walk) from the Santa Fe Plaza, the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, the New Mexico History Museum, the New Mexico Museum of Art, and the sites of the famous Spanish Market and Indian Market. Fabulous restaurants in all price ranges and legendary shopping are within a block or two on Marcy Street, Guadalupe Street, Johnson Street, Lincoln Avenue, Washington Avenue, Palace Avenue, San Francisco Street, and the Plaza. The Lensic performing arts center is an easy 3-block walk down Grant Street and through historic Burro Alley.

Canyon Road, lined with art galleries, is about a 15-minute walk away.

Within easy driving distance are the Santa Fe Farmer's Market (5 minutes), the Santa Fe Opera (8 minutes), Ten Thousand Waves Spa (12 minutes), and Ski Santa Fe (20 minutes).

Free underground parking comes with the unit. You can see the historic center of Santa Fe without a car, or have your car conveniently tucked away for when you need it.

LOCATION NOTE: The VRBO/HomeAway "Distance from Downtown" filter is, unfortunately, and frustratingly, very inaccurate. I've tested it many times, and properties that are miles from the Plaza show up before properties, such as mine, that are close walking distance to the Plaza.

The physical address of my condo complex is at the intersection of Catron and Grant Streets, and my unit faces Grant Street and Federal Place. If you have any questions about location or anything else, feel free to call or text me.

I welcome inquiries from the film industry, legislators, house-hunters, and others who wish to spend a longer time in Santa Fe. Please contact me for a quote. Month-long rentals are 30 days (including those in months that are 31 days long). If you are booking a month or more far in advance, we can work out a payment plan different from my standard 50% at booking and 50% 30 days in advance. Extended stay may require purchase of damage insurance or a larger security deposit an an adjusted payment schedule. NO TAX ON RENTALS 30 DAYS OR MORE.

50% of your payment is due upon booking and 50% 30 days before arrival. If you cancel, I will refund the amount I am able to recoup through re-booking. If you cancel before you've made the final payment, only your first payment is in jeopardy of not being refunded.

Please consider purchasing cancellation insurance at checkout, or from your agent or another company.

Maximum number of guests: 3. Minimum age: 13. At least one traveler must be 25 or older. Check-out is 10 am and check-in is 5pm, with variations possible, depending on availability. No smoking.
