Most Romantic Setting:

Don't forget to ask us about our availability in our second cottage. We still have lots of availability in our other cottage. Please ask for our information packet which has all photos and its details ;-)

Note: Please do not ask about (one night stays OR Pets). We absolutely don't do them. Absolutely no exceptions.

"Walk to New Hope!"

Situated on one of Bucks County's most fabled properties in the historic hamlet of Phillips' Mill, PA and just 1 1/2 miles from downtown New Hope, PA. sits this private Medieval English village. Renowned architect, painter, wood worker, and iron worker, Morgan Colt built this extraordinary village at the turn of the 20th century to be his residence.

Located in the middle of our little English village is your romantic one bedroom Gothic cottage. As you walk through the village, you'll feel as though you've stepped back in time and you're now in England 900 years ago. The Gothic Cottage has a Living Room, Bedroom with skylight (all fresh bed linens are provided for you), full Kitchen (small) with Spanish tile (kitchen is stocked with all pots, pans and cooking utensils and coffee for the Kurig coffee maker. Full Bathroom that comes complete with fresh towels... for your stay.

Relax And Enjoy: Step down into the sunken Italian garden and enjoy a glass of wine while you watch the sun set. This area has loads of great restaurants, art galleries, antique stores, live music , theater and cabarets, boat rides, old steam engine train rides... (See about our second cottage) Note: Please don't inquire about one night stays.)

Relax and enjoy a glass of your favorite wine in the sunken Italian garden: Four large ornate stone pedestals were imported from a palace in Italy by Morgan Colt in the early 1900's and barged up the canal to Colt's residence where they have been standing at each corner of the sunken Italian garden for the last 100 years.

If you don't feel like cooking dinner, just walk out your door, down the cast-stone walkway, through the beautiful garden courtyards and through the large Medieval iron gates, where you will come upon The Inn at Phillip's Mill, also built by Morgan Colt and arguably 'the most romantic restaurant in all of Bucks County' (For weekend dining, you must call ahead for reservations. Note: Once you have booked your stay at The Gothic Cottage, we will provide you with an information packet about your stay that will also contain the restaurant's reservation phone number. (Note: Sorry but we ABSOLUTELY can't do one night stays)

Secluded Yet So Close To So Much: This is a great location aprox 1 mile north of downtown New Hope, and Lambertville which are famous for their numerous fine art galleries, museums, wineries, great shopping destinations, antique stores, polo, great restaurants, boat rides, walking trails, bike trails, live music and live theater at the famous Bucks County Playhouse...

Another high point of staying here is that the village sits on the banks of the beautiful Delaware Canal which gives you instant access to the canal towpath where you can walk, or ride your bikes (1 mile) to historic downtown New Hope, PA, Lambertville or Stockton, NJ. The Gothic Cottage has private off-street parking and is available all year round so you can make this your new home away from home. (Note: Sorry but we absolutely can't do one night stays)

The Gothic Cottage is perfect for weekend getaways, week long vacations or temporary lodging and can comfortably accommodate two people. Extended stays, include weekly house cleaning services.

Unique Benefits of this Cottage: If you don’t feel like cooking dinner, just walk out your door, down the cast-stone walkway, through the beautiful private garden courtyards and Medieval iron gates, where you will come upon The Inn at Phillip’s Mill, also built by Morgan Colt and arguably “the most romantic' restaurant in all of Bucks County. Friday thru Sunday, you should call ahead for reservations and its BYOB.

Once you have booked your stay at the Gothic Cottage, we will provide you with an information packet about your stay that will also contain the restaurant’s reservation phone number.

About Eleanor Miller

I was an actress in NYC for many years and settled here in the New Hope area with my husband. Then for the last 25+ years I've been a Real Estate agent with (Kurfiss Sotheby's Real Estate).

Eleanor Miller purchased this cottage in 1995

Why Eleanor Miller chose Bucks County

Note: If our calendar says we're book on dates you are interested in, please ask about our second English cottage "Herringbone Cottage" here.

This property originally belonged to my husband's grandfather, Dr. George Morley Marshall who in 1895 thought the New Hope area looked like the rolling English countryside so he wrote his boyhood friend and artist, William Lathrop and told him he had to come to New Hope. He then sold a portion of the property to Lathrop, thus began the School of Pennsylvania Impressionists here in the New Hope/ Phillips' Mill area. Soon after, Lathrop sold a few acres to Morgan Colt. who was a well known architect, painter, woodworker, and iron worker and painter. Morgan Colt then began building this extraordinary little English Village to be his residence. We purchased this property in 1995 and in 2010 decided to make two of the cottages available to rent (Gothic Cottage) seen here and (Herringbone Cottage). Please ask for our brochure which has photos and description of both of our rental cottages here on the property.

What makes this cottage unique

Dozens of great restaurants, cafe's, art galleries, and live music venues all within 2 miles of the cottage as well as 3 museums nearby. All of our guests love walking or riding bikes on the canal tow-path. You can see all the beautiful historic homes along the canal as you walk by. We have a great indoor Farmers Market in the little river town of Stockton which is just 1 mile up the road and you can walk there on the canal if you like. Our little English village property is like a scene out of a Harry Potter movie. The entire little English village was built to look 1000 years old. One of the cottages was originally built in England in 900AD. It was part of an old Abby which had fallen into ruin. A section of the building was dismantled and brought to the U.S., barged up the canal to this location. It was reconstructed and brought back to its original luster. Its just gorgeous! Take in a show at the Newly renovated Bucks County Playhouse. Maybe even see James Earl Jones or Angela Lansbury or dozens of other stars in our historic Playhouse.

Lovely but tiny

  • 3 of 5

The Romantic English Cottage in New Hope is charming, and the hosts are very friendly. It is, however, very tiny. We both hit our heads on the low, slanted ceiling of the bedroom. The shower is barely big enough for one person. (We're both tall but not larger than average.) We could cook a simple meal in the kitchen, but there's no room for chopping, etc. We enjoyed the location: Lambertville has great restaurants; Doylestown has interesting museums; the canal path is fun to walk. Our week-long vacation there was fine, but we probably wouldn't do it again.

One can't help feeling a bit of magic on these enchanted grounds.

  • 5 of 5

Magical bits of the souls who have been inspired on this property certainly linger here. An idyllic getaway for me and my daughter, both celebrating July birthdays. Thanks Kurt and Eleanor for a peaceful stay!

Adorable perfect little cottage walking distance from towpath -- you can walk for miles

  • 5 of 5

Loved our weekend in this cute cottage in the middle of a beautiful garden. The owners are friendly and very accommodating and the cottage itself is cozy and well equipped with a full kitchen and even a shelf full of novels. We walked through the garden to get to the towpath and then loved walking in the New Hope (about a mile) along the shady path.

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our stay in June. Thank you Kurt & Eleanor for your generous hospitality and for sharing so much of your families history with us. Stayed in quaint house. Fabulous restaurant on site. Biked towpath, accessed from property. Kayaked nearby. A lot to do in New Hope. Amazing show at Playhouse. Will return.

Beautiful grounds, hospitable hosts

  • 5 of 5

Kurt and Eleanor were very friendly and informative. We loved the quiet village grounds. Walking to New Hope on the canal path was great and we even took in a show at the Bucks County Playhouse. I just wish that we could have stayed longer to enjoy more historical buildings and great restaurants!

Very different experience from the standard hotel/motel room

  • 4 of 5

It's a very charming place. It has a full kitchen if you prefer to eat-in, though there are loads of restaurants in the area. There's also lots of shopping nearby and parks.

Situated on one of Bucks County's most fabled properties in the historic hamlet of Philips Mill, Pa. and jusy 1.5 miles from downtown New Hope, Pa. sits our private Medieval English village. Renowned Achitect, Painter, Iron worker, and Wood wooker, Morgan Colt built this extraordinary village at the turn of the century to be his residence. Come visit us for the Winter holidays here in New Hope. The entire town is always lit up so beautifully for the holidays. New Hope is one of the most beautiful walking towns. Just park your car once and you can walk everywhere. There are over 50 unique restaurants in New Hope and its sister town of Lambertville where you'll find restaurant after restaurant, Café after café, shop after shop. There is no shortage of things to do here. There are many great art galleries, antiques stores and live music. Most of our guests never want to leave. Being that we are located on the cannal, you can walk or ride your bikes on the towpath one mile into downtown New Hope, PA or Stockton, NJ. In Stockton there is a great 'indoor' farmers market which is open on weekends all year. New Hope is a famous river town that dates back before the revolution. For over 100 years, New Hope has been a well known art community. Another main attraction is the local 'Bucks County Playhouse which was home away from home to many of Hollywood's greates stars in the 1940's and 1950's many of whom later made New Hope their home. Note: PLEASE don't inquire about one night stays.

Other Activities: If you like shopping, then you'll love New Hope, Pa. Located just a 5 minutes down the road is Peddler's Village. It was originally built to look like a Colonial village with 80 unique quaint little shops dotted along the meandering herringbone brick walkways. All thoughout the shopping village are beautiful gardens with waterfall fountains and koi ponds. Great restaurants there too...

and if thats not enough, you also have all the outlet stores just across the street!

Also right nearby are two great flea markets for those who like to get up early on Tuesday or Saturday mornings to get the good stuff :-)

We also have 8 wineries that give tours, one great art museum (Michener Art Museum) and two other museums which are castles: Font Hill Museum and Merser Museum. In addition to everything else, we have all kinds of historic tours you can take, boat rides on the river, a train ride on an old steam engine that takes you through the heart of Bucks County OR you can watch a local polo match...
