"Walk to New Hope!"

Situated on one of Bucks County's most fabled properties in the historic hamlet of Phillips' Mill, PA and just 1 1/2 miles from downtown New Hope, PA. sits this private Medieval English village. Renowned architect, painter, wood worker, and iron worker, Morgan Colt built this extraordinary village at the turn of the 20th century to be his residence.

Located in the middle of our little English village is your romantic one bedroom Gothic cottage. As you walk through the village, you'll feel as though you've stepped back in time and you're now in England 900 years ago. The Gothic Cottage has a Living Room, Bedroom with skylight (all fresh bed linens are provided for you), full Kitchen (small) with Spanish tile (kitchen is stocked with all pots, pans and cooking utensils and coffee for the Kurig coffee maker. Full Bathroom that comes complete with fresh towels... for your stay.

Relax And Enjoy: Step down into the sunken Italian garden and enjoy a glass of wine while you watch the sun set. This area has loads of great restaurants, art galleries, antique stores, live music , theater and cabarets, boat rides, old steam engine train rides... (See about our second cottage) Note: Please don't inquire about one night stays.)

Relax and enjoy a glass of your favorite wine in the sunken Italian garden: Four large ornate stone pedestals were imported from a palace in Italy by Morgan Colt in the early 1900's and barged up the canal to Colt's residence where they have been standing at each corner of the sunken Italian garden for the last 100 years.

If you don't feel like cooking dinner, just walk out your door, down the cast-stone walkway, through the beautiful garden courtyards and through the large Medieval iron gates, where you will come upon The Inn at Phillip's Mill, also built by Morgan Colt and arguably 'the most romantic restaurant in all of Bucks County' (For weekend dining, you must call ahead for reservations. Note: Once you have booked your stay at The Gothic Cottage, we will provide you with an information packet about your stay that will also contain the restaurant's reservation phone number. (Note: Sorry but we ABSOLUTELY can't do one night stays)

Secluded Yet So Close To So Much: This is a great location aprox 1 mile north of downtown New Hope, and Lambertville which are famous for their numerous fine art galleries, museums, wineries, great shopping destinations, antique stores, polo, great restaurants, boat rides, walking trails, bike trails, live music and live theater at the famous Bucks County Playhouse...

Another high point of staying here is that the village sits on the banks of the beautiful Delaware Canal which gives you instant access to the canal towpath where you can walk, or ride your bikes (1 mile) to historic downtown New Hope, PA, Lambertville or Stockton, NJ. The Gothic Cottage has private off-street parking and is available all year round so you can make this your new home away from home. (Note: Sorry but we absolutely can't do one night stays)

The Gothic Cottage is perfect for weekend getaways, week long vacations or temporary lodging and can comfortably accommodate two people. Extended stays, include weekly house cleaning services.

Unique Benefits of this Cottage: If you don’t feel like cooking dinner, just walk out your door, down the cast-stone walkway, through the beautiful private garden courtyards and Medieval iron gates, where you will come upon The Inn at Phillip’s Mill, also built by Morgan Colt and arguably “the most romantic' restaurant in all of Bucks County. Friday thru Sunday, you should call ahead for reservations and its BYOB.

Once you have booked your stay at the Gothic Cottage, we will provide you with an information packet about your stay that will also contain the restaurant’s reservation phone number.

A lovely relaxing place

  • 5 of 5

A great weekend retreat from reality. We felt like English country lords (or at least people with a little English cottage) for a weekend. The cottage is small (as advertised) but so homey. Everything has its place and like I said, it just feels like home from the moment you walk in. The property is also very homey with little sitting areas scattered about. We felt like we were in a different place each time we went outside to enjoy a cup of of coffee or glass of wine. The location is fantastic located so close to the canal tow path. We walked to Stockton one day and New Hope the next. The owners are delightful and started our time at the property with a tour including the history of the property and the inn next door. The only reason not to give this place 5 stars is that I'm afraid it won't be available next time we want to go :) A great property with great people and great things to do. Just go!

Oct. 18-20 2017

Enter into an English Cottage hideaway, away from all the hustle and bustle of your everyday life. Relax and enjoy your private surroundings while staying in your romantic cottage.

The owners were delightful and helpful in every way. Close to New Hope and Lambertville and just a very short walk to a fantastic Restaurant , The Philips Mill Inn. It 's a BYOB and it is a must when staying here. You will not be disappointed with your Cottage getaway whether it's for a couple days, a week or longer. It will be well worth it!!!!

Charming cottage minutes from downtown

  • 4 of 5

Kurt and Eleanor couldn't have been nicer, sharing their knowledge of the history of their property with us and opening their home to us. The cottage is small, yet has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the surrounding property is really cozy and welcoming. (Note: the wifi didn't work the whole time we were there, never got around to asking about it) Just minutes from downtown New Hope, and a short drive to Peddler's Village--lots of shopping and great food/drink. We look forward to coming back and staying in Herringbone Cottage next time!

The property is magnificent and the cottage was perfect! It was like staying in a thatched roof cottage in the Cotswolds! Your hospitality was unparalleled and we enjoyed it thoroughly!

Kurt and Eleanor were fabulous hosts! Saturday night we had a spontaneous candle light dinner in their home!

Exquisite detail applied to all of the cottages. Many outdoor spaces to relax and enjoy! Near Stockton Farmer's Market which is Zabar's on the Delaware!

Much to do in the area.

Ideal for a retreat from urban life.

About Eleanor Miller

I was an actress in NYC for many years and settled here in the New Hope area with my husband. Then for the last 25+ years I've been a Real Estate agent with (Kurfiss Sotheby's Real Estate).

Eleanor Miller purchased this cottage in 1995

Why Eleanor Miller chose New Hope

Note: If our calendar says we're book on dates you are interested in, please ask about our second English cottage "Herringbone Cottage" here.

This property originally belonged to my husband's grandfather, Dr. George Morley Marshall who in 1895 thought the New Hope area looked like the rolling English countryside so he wrote his boyhood friend and artist, William Lathrop and told him he had to come to New Hope. He then sold a portion of the property to Lathrop, thus began the School of Pennsylvania Impressionists here in the New Hope/ Phillips' Mill area. Soon after, Lathrop sold a few acres to Morgan Colt. who was a well known architect, painter, woodworker, and iron worker and painter. Morgan Colt then began building this extraordinary little English Village to be his residence. We purchased this property in 1995 and in 2010 decided to make two of the cottages available to rent (Gothic Cottage) seen here and (Herringbone Cottage). Please ask for our brochure which has photos and description of both of our rental cottages here on the property.

What makes this cottage unique

Dozens of great restaurants, cafe's, art galleries, and live music venues all within 2 miles of the cottage as well as 3 museums nearby. All of our guests love walking or riding bikes on the canal tow-path. You can see all the beautiful historic homes along the canal as you walk by. We have a great indoor Farmers Market in the little river town of Stockton which is just 1 mile up the road and you can walk there on the canal if you like. Our little English village property is like a scene out of a Harry Potter movie. The entire little English village was built to look 1000 years old. One of the cottages was originally built in England in 900AD. It was part of an old Abby which had fallen into ruin. A section of the building was dismantled and brought to the U.S., barged up the canal to this location. It was reconstructed and brought back to its original luster. Its just gorgeous! Take in a show at the Newly renovated Bucks County Playhouse. Maybe even see James Earl Jones or Angela Lansbury or dozens of other stars in our historic Playhouse.

Renowned Achitect, Painter, Iron worker, and Wood wooker, Morgan Colt built this extraordinary village at the turn of the century to be his residence. Come visit us for the Winter holidays here in New Hope. The entire town is always lit up so beautifully for the holidays. New Hope is one of the most beautiful walking towns. There are over 50 unique restaurants in New Hope and its sister town of Lambertville where you'll find restaurant after restaurant, Café after café, shop after shop. There is no shortage of things to do here. There are many great art galleries, antiques stores and live music. Most of our guests never want to leave. Being that we are located on the cannal, you can walk or ride your bikes on the towpath one mile into downtown New Hope, PA or Stockton, NJ. In Stockton there is a great 'indoor' farmers market which is open on weekends all year. New Hope is a famous river town that dates back before the revolution. For over 100 years, New Hope has been a well known art community. Another main attraction is the local 'Bucks County Playhouse which was home away from home to many of Hollywood's greates stars in the 1940's and 1950's many of whom later made New Hope their home. Note: PLEASE don't inquire about one night stays.

Other Activities: If you like shopping, then you'll love New Hope, Pa. Located just a 5 minutes down the road is Peddler's Village.
