Pet friendly, updated antique WATERFRONT on 52 acre preserve.
About Kimberly Moore
While I am the representative for the rental of the Hubbard Point Trust properties, the Trust is owned by my family, the Ahlers. The Hubbard Point Trust was left to my family by our Aunt Doris, who purchased the property during the sixties. Everyone in the family has many wonderful memories of our travels to Maine from NewJersey and our many adventures on Westport Island with Aunt Doris. We feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to continue to enjoy this beautiful Maine property many years after her passing and to introduce Maine life to the continuing generations of our family. Memories of our aunt are here everywhere for us on the point. The Dunn house has been carefully restored and updated with addition of a beautiful sunroom that Aunt Doris, an architect, would certainly approve of. She loved to use skylights and windows to take advantage of the beautiful Maine views. She even was known to do her drawings in the net house that sits upon Heal Cove. Any addition or update is always done with her in mind. We think she would be proud of the care and love that has been put into her beloved Westport Island homes.
What makes this House unique
The Dunn and DAL houses are located on our private 52 acre preserve. The Hubbard Point is surrounded by water on all sides with the Dunn house on the western shore on Hockomock Bay and the DAL on the eastern shore, sitting right upon Heal Cove. This offers renters a unique opportunity to rent both houses for larger groups. The houses are only are short walk away from each other on the property, separated by the tall pines of the forrest between them. The houses are close enough for a group yet far enough away that if you are renting one home you have privacy. 52 acres with its miles of shoreline, woodland trails, expansive yards are yours to explore. Hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, kayaking, bird and nature watching are all right here. You may never want to leave!

A perfect Maine getaway
We had a wonderful time at this coastal getaway. The dogs loved it just as much as we did! The house was clean and comfortable (except for the pullout couch), and the well-stocked kitchen made gourmet cooking a breeze. We'd love to return.
I had the great pleasure of being able to spend a week at this lovely property from 9/8-9/15/2018. Although the pictures are a good representation, you can't get the full picture until you actually drive in from US 1. Westport Island is secluded, non-touristy, sparsely populated, mostly just residential traffic and not much of that out on the main road. I was looking to stay someplace where all you can hear is the birds and the breeze. This place is so much more than that. The Dunn house sits approximately 500 feet off a well maintained gravel road down a long and winding driveway. Coming up to the back of the house for the first time is a feast for the eyes and something you couldn't possibly ever tire of. There are approximately 2 acres of open land around the house rolling down to Hockamock Bay surrounded by forest. It is beautiful beyond description. The house is amazing. It is large, well-appointed and very comfortable. I wound up being here for the week on my own due to unexpected illness for my travel partner who was unable to make the trip. The house comfortably accommodates 8 people, I had it all to myself. My favorite was to sit on the steps of the sunroom in the morning to have my coffee and again at the end of the day to watch some blazing sunsets over the bay. The kitchen has absolutely everything you possibly need or want to cook meals. I only prepared meals there twice but for those who might want to do lots of home cooking, this is a chef's kitchen. The three bedrooms are upstairs, the bathroom is downstairs, keep it in mind if stairs are an issue for seniors or mobility challenged folks. The house has lots of windows with great ventilation. I didn't need the air conditioning, did need the heat a couple times to take the morning chill off. Was not able to get the gas stove in the sunroom lit, perhaps a step by step schematic for future renters? Kimberly is very accessible and responded immediately to two minor issues. If you want to spend time outdoors, prepare to use mosquito repellent of some kind, this is Maine. Dunn House offers the perfect secluded getaway. It did not disappoint. If it's peace and quiet you're looking for, look no further. I went into Wiscasset, Brunswick, Freeport and out to Whitefield and couldn't wait to get back to the house to absorb every last minute of being there. What a find. Can't wait to come back again.
Thank you, John, for your wonderful review!! Your description of the house is perfect. It was a pleasure having you stay at the Dunn house and we hope to have you back as a guest soon!! Hopefully by your next stay we will have a deck for you to sit on and watch the sunset.
Peaceful, relaxing, and away from it all (but not too far!)
My husband and I spent our annual summer vacation in the Dunn House at the end of July. It was just the two of us, but this home is very comfortable and roomy, and can easily accommodate 8 people. To say our time was peaceful would be an understatement! The house is bright and airy, with windows everywhere, so you have views of the water and all you can hear is nature. At the same time, it was a quick 20 minute drive to either Bath or Wiscassett or places beyond, with shops, restaurants, and plenty of things to do. The kitchen is well equipped (although we mostly ate out), and I highly recommend sitting in the large family room with your morning coffee or tea. The family room doesn't have a TV and I think we spent 80% of our time in this room.
We enjoyed walking the property trails, but as you might expect, bring your mosquito repellent! The house is also well equipped for technology and TV watching, although we didn't watch a lot of TV or movies. There are also books and games to enjoy
In the area, there are many things to do. I will share what we enjoyed the most and places to eat. Five Islands Lobster Company lives up to the hype. Take your beer or wine in a cooler and drive down there for a memorable experience and meal. We went twice. The Central Maine Botanical Gardens near Boothbay are phenomenal. I can't say enough about this place. It's world class. The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath is also quite amazing and extensive. Your entrance ticket gets you the day you go plus another day within the next seven days. If you want to see everything they have, you will need both days. They also offer river cruises to see the lighthouses and the Bath Iron Works. Added bonus: they will ship any gift shop purchases you make back to your home tax free. We enjoyed many craft breweries in the area, but I would highly recommend Boothbay Craft Brewery. Great beer and nice people plus an outdoor area with a rotating food truck. We had nice meals at the Montsweag Farm Restaurant in Woolwich and the Kennebeck Tavern in Bath. Dot's Ice Cream shop is downtown Bath and the Witch Spring Hill Ice Cream Shop is off of Route 1 in Bath. There is a lady that sells pies out of her house on the road going out to the cottage. She must make great pies, because every time we tried to get one, she was sold out. She puts a sign out with the flavors that she has available - get one when you see sign.
Great home! Great Location! Great Owner!
Working with Kimberly, the owner, was very pleasant. She was very helpful providing us with information about the home and the area. The home is generously stocked with all the amenities you could ever need from spices to paper products. Our dog, Patriot, loved the large open yard, and was not at all bothered by ticks as a previous guest stated about his dog. The location of the home in Westport, was ideal for all of our planned day trips. Though spending a day at the property was wonderful too whether we were using the bikes provided to us or kayaking out on the water. Thank you, Kimberly, for the opportunity to stay at your beautiful home. We all had a wonderful time in Maine!
Peaceful, Quiet place to unplug,,
While this place has satellite TV and internet service, we didn't turn on the TV once and only occasionally used the WIFI. Enjoyed sitting in the yard and listening to the quiet. Saw very few boats (less than 10) the entire week. It was so quiet at night we could hear voices from across the river. Stargazing was spectacular. My dog did find lots of ticks, but that's just Maine. She found hours of entertainment chasing the squirrels between the trees. Kitchen was well equipped. If you are looking for a remote getaway, this is it.
First impression of the rental seemed to me that we made a good choice for a vacation. Nice sunsets, lots of wildlife, and over 50 acres to roam. Little things became apparent after the first day that turned out somewhat inconvenient. Such as a very small bathroom. Bedrooms are on the second floor and the bath is on the first which can be inconvenient for us elderly folks. We did have to cut our stay three days short. The main reason for that was a major tick problem. Our golden had picked up more ticks in the yard around the house then he did when we walked through the wooded areas. The owner did inform us about the ticks but being dog owners, we never encountered this many ticks in one area! My wife and I stayed on Westport Island in three other locations and never had this problem. We were pulling them off the dog, about 30 or more and a few more on each other just as we were sitting in the yard. The other objectionable thing was the red squirrels running and scratching in the walls and ceiling at night. At least I think they were squirrels. It's a little unnerving. That being said, I think the rental is at a great location from one of the other places we stayed. There were eagles flying, deer in the yard, egrets feeding on the shore and a red fox stopped by. If you don't mind the problems we encountered, this would be the place for you! Enjoy!
Westport Island is the perfect midcoast location. A true " get a way form it all" , Westport is away from the tourist attractions yet only a short drive to many local attractions, dining antiquing, shopping, boat cruises, museums and coastal towns.
Stay right at the house and enjoy biking, fishing hiking, swimming or just relax and enjoy the wildlife of Maine or cook a seafood dinner in the gourmet kitchen.
