"The way life should be"... if you haven't been.. you MUST explore the beautiful Highlands of Maine!!
All we were after was an escape to a lake house for a quiet weekend, and Camp Samuel & the most gracious concierge Michael, provided the most excellent setting for us. The property was more than needed for our small party of 6, we cooked, we played numerous games on the beautiful long wooden table with a roaring fire going & relaxed in the hot tub.
It was perfect and hope to go back and explore in summer.
Where to start...Camp Samuel is truly a one of a kind camp. Nothing short changed here, high end everything! The camp was extremely clean, well organized, well stocked (kitchen, and never a shortage on towels :)) it was PERFECT! We were 2 families that had 5 kids (2, 7 year old, 2, 3 years old and 1, 10 month old) the "big" kids had the entire downstairs to themselves. It was so nice for them to have their "own" space. Multiple bookshelves stocked with plenty to entertain their little minds (books, crafts, board-games, card games) and the adults too. We all loved jumping off the water trampoline and swimming. Late afternoon hot tub relaxation was a must as were bonfires in the evening; who doesn't love s'mores?. We rented a boat from a nearby marina and enjoyed some water sporting. The pond is nice and quiet so we didn't have to worry about "boating traffic". Michael the concierge was phenomenal!! Everything he recommended (Spring Creek BBQ, Abbott Bakery, Flatlanders in Greenville, Countryside Meat Market-delicious steaks) we did and were completely satisfied! I would HIGHLY recommend this camp! There were so many great memories made here. The most exciting was seeing 2 Bald Eagles in their natural environment. I could go on and on... If you are looking for a truly one of a kind CAMP look no further, this is the place!!
Michael was easy to communicate with and gave us a warm welcome and explained all of the fun amenities (wireless sound in all rooms, wrap-around deck and hot tub, huge bathrooms and modern appliances, etc.). Huge greatroom was perfect for dining and cards (11 adults), and commercial kitchen was well stocked with cookware and serving utensils.
One small complaint, I guess . . .there is only half a moose! Poor thing got stuck in the wall, and we couldn't find its back end anywhere. ;-D
Camp Samuel was the setting for our very intimate wedding and we could not have imagined a more perfect setting. The house was ample size to accommodate our party, yet small enough to maintain a sense of intimacy.
The beauty of the lake-house is matched only by the serenity of the location and natural beauty of land. The house offers the opportunity to truly get away while still offering amenities you wouldn't be surprised to find in a five-star hotel.
The concierge was helpful, attentive, and always available for assistance. The house was stocked with not only recreational items, but also the necessities like paper products.
We look forward to returning to Camp Samuel for another visit.
Camp Samuel is the epitome of luxury. Our family has bounced all over Maine for fifteen years. Sometimes we rough it, staying at more traditional camps and lodges. We decided to do it a bit different this year and aim for comfort. Conveniently located and yet secluded. Within reasonable distance of authentic, rural Maine night life. The people of the surrounding communities are some of kindest I've ever met. Our family was a bit intimidated by some of the technology at first but concierge Mike was very helpful and even made more than one house call to assist with anything from specific oven control, to explaining the state of the art sound system. We even caught some fish. A few 16' trout and a 5 lb small mouth!
This is a wonderful property. It is gorgeous and secluded yet has so much to offer. From a peacful ride in the kayak to a quick ski around the lake - you won't hear "Mommy I am bored" here.
It is rare to find such a finely appointed home on the rental market. It is well maintained and beautifully furnished. We will be back.
