Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in East of Broadway - 1882 Carriage House

2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, 4 Sleeps

The kirkwood cottage carriage house is located 4 blocks off i-630 - just minutes from the va med center, uams and children's hospitals, in the heart of the business, south main (soma) and river market districts. The carriage house is a good choice for business travelers or couples who want a romantic getaway and it is perfect to accommodate your extended stay guests. Pricing will depend upon length of stay.

A private entrance through the brick courtyard (doorbell at the privacy fence gate), carpeting in living room, painted wood floors upstairs and the original brick floors in entry and kitchen. Two gas log heaters, period light fixtures, and a wood-burning stove add to the historic nature of this upscale 1,400 square foot barn. Updated features like wifi and two flat panel tv’s with direct tv, a whirlpool tub in the downstairs bathroom, another full bathroom upstairs, a full size washer and dryer, and quality mattresses in the two adjoining bedrooms ensure you the comfort you deserve.

We are a small pet friendly place (owners have a yorkie) so you never have to leave home without them and the carriage house even has a doggie door (there is a deposit per pet).

The kitchen is furnished with a side by side refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, two coffee makers (12 cup and single cup) and self-cleaning oven. Dishes, silverware and utensils are included for your convenience, as well as thick, fluffy towels and linens. The enclosed courtyard has a small pond and a gas grill, should you want to cook or entertain outdoors. Automatic lighting means you never come home to a dark house. The carriage house is located in the governor's mansion historic neighborhood and is great for walking or bike riding, with an active arts and entertainment district just 3 blocks away on south main. The river market is quite close as well, with many restaurants, bars, shopping, and the clinton presidential library. Walgreens, a grocery store and post office are just blocks away.

Why Donna Skulman-Loyd chose Arkansas

We bought the historic Kirkwood Cottage (circa 1882) and its carriage barn initially because it was close to work. But the historic district is full of interesting people and always has something going on.

What makes this cottage unique

Your home away from home

We came to Little Rock to meet up with friends for the weekend. We were looking for place where we could relax and catch up. The Carriage House was the perfect place to do just that. The inside and outside living spaces are warm and inviting. Amenities abound and there was not a single thing we needed that wasn't at our disposal. The Carriage House has a true historic charm yet also offers every modern convenience you could possibly need.

The location is perfect for those that want to take in the historic sites in Little Rock and lots of great restaurants nearby.

We leave with fond memories of time shared with our friends and will definitely stay here on our next trip to Little Rock.

Charming Cottage

  • 5 of 5

From the moment I inquired about the availability of 1882 Carriage House, Donna was prompt to respond, informative and accommodating. She went above and beyond every step of the was to make sure our stay would be everything we wanted it to be.

My family of 4 had a wonderful time during our short stay. There is plenty of space, the area is full of beautiful victorian homes, neighbors are friendly.

The refrigerator was stocked with more than just the basics. Every pot or pan we needed was there, the gas stove was available to us as well. When we walked in, the table was set and ready for us, touches like this made the property incredibly inviting.

The bathrooms have several soaps, shampoos and lotions to choose from. The sheets are soft and the towels are soft yet absorbent-even in the Arkansas humidity. The doggie decor is fun, inspired by Bear, I'm guessing.

The restaurants in the area are great, and reasonably priced. We loved The Root--serving fresh, local food and drinks. The little green corner store was fantastic too. They had the best salted caramel ice cream I've ever tasted!

My favorite thing about the whole trip might have been the pillows. I literally placed an amazon order for them so I wasn't tempted to take Donna's with me! We would gladly stay here again.

Old but tons of charm.

  • 4 of 5

Overall, a very nice stay. Many of the amenities needed to stay 8-9 days were there. Laundry, soap, dishwasher, microwave, coffee, spices, outdoor grill, etc. Location is good. Close to downtown, gas, food, groceries and river.

A Place to Come Home To

  • 5 of 5

We give this place more than 5 stars, if possible 10 stars! The pictures are true, the carriage house looks exactly like the pictures. You cannot believe how quiet and Donna had everything we needed! Even provided the best coffee! Fridge and cabinets stocked with essentials, along with washing detergent in the laundry area. We have never stayed at a more equipped place. The neighborhood was awesome, old historic southern homes with character. Our cockapoo, Livvy loved Donna's Yorkie, Bear. We took a long walk and parked our car on the street.... we felt safe.

This is the place to stay in Little Rock. Moments from the airport! We highly recommend! Have to say the courtyard is beautiful! This piece of heaven is a place we will always remember!

The carriage house is delightful and perfectly located 3 blocks from the Governors Mansion and 4 easy walking blocks from the South of Main revitalized area with wonderful restaurants and shops. Most importantly, the owners exude Southern charm and hospitality. Your every wish and need will be catered to. The private courtyard garden is beautiful and relaxing. Explore easily the local sites. Owners provide exceptional customer service.I highly recommend this property and will stay here again visiting family and learning the local history.

Fabulously Quirky

  • 4 of 5

What a great place to stay in Little Rock. It's as quirky as can be, with uneven brick floors, irregular stair steps, and a "walk-through" bedroom. But it's also wonderfully historic and in a fantastic old neighborhood. The host are as nice and responsive as can be, but still allow all the privacy you want. The Carriage House was well equipped with toiletries, linens, a blow dryer and laundry facilities. Even the pantry had a few items on hand, including sweet treats and savory snacks! Would certainly stay here again. BTW, you better like dogs, because BEAR (the Yorkie) thinks owns the place. But then again, I guess he does!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your nice review! We try and figure out what folks would like away from home and have it on hand. Many people arrive after dark, so I always have snacks, pasta & sauce, coffee, tea, cocoa, oatmeal, muffins and other things in case they don't feel like getting back out. The house was built in the 1880's as a carriage barn - where the horse and carriage were kept. Upstairs where the bedrooms are, was the hayloft. The neighborhood is wonderful and very walkable. The South Main district (SoMa) is bursting with places to eat and things to do. The Episcopal cathedral, Trinity, is just a block away, and the governor's mansion is a short 3 block walk.
