About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, 4 Sleeps

The kirkwood cottage carriage house is located 4 blocks off i-630 - just minutes from the va med center, uams and children's hospitals, in the heart of the business, south main (soma) and river market districts. The carriage house is a good choice for business travelers or couples who want a romantic getaway and it is perfect to accommodate your extended stay guests. Pricing will depend upon length of stay.

A private entrance through the brick courtyard (doorbell at the privacy fence gate), carpeting in living room, painted wood floors upstairs and the original brick floors in entry and kitchen. Two gas log heaters, period light fixtures, and a wood-burning stove add to the historic nature of this upscale 1,400 square foot barn. Updated features like wifi and two flat panel tv’s with direct tv, a whirlpool tub in the downstairs bathroom, another full bathroom upstairs, a full size washer and dryer, and quality mattresses in the two adjoining bedrooms ensure you the comfort you deserve.

We are a small pet friendly place (owners have a yorkie) so you never have to leave home without them and the carriage house even has a doggie door (there is a deposit per pet).

The kitchen is furnished with a side by side refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, two coffee makers (12 cup and single cup) and self-cleaning oven. Dishes, silverware and utensils are included for your convenience, as well as thick, fluffy towels and linens. The enclosed courtyard has a small pond and a gas grill, should you want to cook or entertain outdoors. Automatic lighting means you never come home to a dark house. The carriage house is located in the governor's mansion historic neighborhood and is great for walking or bike riding, with an active arts and entertainment district just 3 blocks away on south main. The river market is quite close as well, with many restaurants, bars, shopping, and the clinton presidential library. Walgreens, a grocery store and post office are just blocks away.

About Donna Skulman-Loyd

semi retired couple

Donna Skulman-Loyd purchased this cottage in 1983

Why Donna Skulman-Loyd chose Arkansas

We bought the historic Kirkwood Cottage (circa 1882) and its carriage barn initially because it was close to work. But the historic district is full of interesting people and always has something going on.

What makes this cottage unique

Large open space in the heart of the city - close to everything!

Excellent Stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first VRBO stay and we didn't really know what to expect. Fortunately for us it met our best expectations. The carriage house was spacious, clean and very comfortable for both of us and our dog.

The kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils needed to prepare any food you might wish to make and plenty of coffee choices were available for the Keurig coffee maker.

We particularly enjoyed the location since it offered the necessities needed within a 7-8 block area. Good pizza (Radunos), good coffee and pastries (Community Bakery), good breakfasts and lunches (The Root), a supermarket, Walgreens, and a U.S. Post Office were available within that area.

Donna was very helpful and made us feel welcome during our stay.

We enjoyed the patio area and the feeling of security provided on the premises.

A very enjoyable way to begin our VRBO experience.

Business & Pleasure in The Heart of Little Rock!

  • 5 of 5

The Kirkwood Cottage became our "Home Away From Home" during our 3 month consulting project in Little Rock. What a perfect way to end each day, having this special space to come home to and recharge. So charming and cozy and situated in the heart of Little Rock's Historic District just blocks from downtown Little Rock and The River Market Area. Donna & W.B. have catered to every detail in assuring that everything necessary is at your fingertips and were right there to respond to any questions plus always proactive in keeping us aware of local activities and upcoming events. Even making our Holidays, extra special...as we returned one evening to find the cottage beautifully decorated for Christmas. Finding extended stay accomodations around the country, sight unseen, can be a challenge. In this case...no surprises! The Kirkwood Cottage was exactly as presented. Thank you Donna & W.B., we hope to have the opportunity to be your guests again, sometime in the future!

Your home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We came to Little Rock to meet up with friends for the weekend. We were looking for place where we could relax and catch up. The Carriage House was the perfect place to do just that. The inside and outside living spaces are warm and inviting. Amenities abound and there was not a single thing we needed that wasn't at our disposal. The Carriage House has a true historic charm yet also offers every modern convenience you could possibly need.

The location is perfect for those that want to take in the historic sites in Little Rock and lots of great restaurants nearby.

We leave with fond memories of time shared with our friends and will definitely stay here on our next trip to Little Rock.

Charming Cottage

  • 5 of 5

From the moment I inquired about the availability of 1882 Carriage House, Donna was prompt to respond, informative and accommodating. She went above and beyond every step of the was to make sure our stay would be everything we wanted it to be.

My family of 4 had a wonderful time during our short stay. There is plenty of space, the area is full of beautiful victorian homes, neighbors are friendly.

The refrigerator was stocked with more than just the basics. Every pot or pan we needed was there, the gas stove was available to us as well. When we walked in, the table was set and ready for us, touches like this made the property incredibly inviting.

The bathrooms have several soaps, shampoos and lotions to choose from. The sheets are soft and the towels are soft yet absorbent-even in the Arkansas humidity. The doggie decor is fun, inspired by Bear, I'm guessing.

The restaurants in the area are great, and reasonably priced. We loved The Root--serving fresh, local food and drinks. The little green corner store was fantastic too. They had the best salted caramel ice cream I've ever tasted!

My favorite thing about the whole trip might have been the pillows. I literally placed an amazon order for them so I wasn't tempted to take Donna's with me! We would gladly stay here again.

Old but tons of charm.

  • 4 of 5

Overall, a very nice stay. Many of the amenities needed to stay 8-9 days were there. Laundry, soap, dishwasher, microwave, coffee, spices, outdoor grill, etc. Location is good. Close to downtown, gas, food, groceries and river.
