Welcome to Casa Dos Angeles, and the elegant guest suite you will call home during your stay with me! Located on a private, gated cul-de-sac with only seven homes and 24-hour security, just steps from the Rosewood Hotel & 3 blocks from our Jardin, my two angels (the house name, of course!) greet you at the front door upon arrival, and they set the tone for the elegance you'll encounter within. As an architect, I can tell you my home doesn't fit any one description--it's a cross between European elegance and Spanish Colonial comfort. This is not the home for a family with young children--your vacation abode is furnished with European antiques, Mexican stone, and eye-catching details, perfect for evening cocktails in the courtyard or intimate dinners beneath the candlelit chandelier. Fireplaces warm the four-poster bedroom and enliven the grand living room, while French doors abound, allowing the entire home to flow seamlessly into the central, fountain-anchored courtyard. If you're ready for a holiday that you'll remember a lifetime, this is your temporary home!

About Greg

In the internet age, it's easy to check out your potential hosts on affiliated sites or About Me (check out my profile there, it's full of easy hot-links to see more about me), but let's get acquainted here first!

When my AARP membership kicked in (just over five years now), I became a full-time expat in the Conde Nast Traveler-ranked Number One City in the World, which happens to also be a UNESCO World Heritage Site, like Florence, Italy. If your visit here is simply for some experience-rich R&R, I'm great at offering suggestions and pointing out the hot spots in town (I'm the social columnist for our local bilingual newspaper, so I get out once in a while!), but if you're here to also explore San Miguel as a potential home, I'm an expert. I'm a top Realtor here--originally trained as an architect in undergrad--a Mexican business owner, a published novelist, have built a home here, and can share everything you might wish to know about life in Mexico. I live upstairs, so I'm around to answer your questions!

I'm also an Italophile--perhaps I was Italian in another life?--and my home is very European in style. I love the indoor-outdoor lifestyle our weather here encourages, and you'll find my home flows seamlessly with the outdoors--the French doors at the foot of your bed open directly into your fountain-anchored courtyard in the main photo.

You'll see from the home description that I work full time and am in-and-out with appointments or sequestered away in my upstairs office, but I certainly enjoy playing the role of host--plan on a Happy Hour that I try to host when time permits so we can chat! And remember, your living quarters here are also perfect for hosting a dinner party with new-found friends--I'm happy to provide resources to maximize your enjoyment, from groceries & catering, to in-home massage services or personal tour guides.

Why Greg chose Zona Centro

As I mentioned, I'm a top Realtor here in San Miguel de Allende, so i know the best locations to live, the safest in terms of both lifestyle and investment, and Casa Dos Angeles tops all locations. I chose to move here because it's such a short, easy stroll to the heart of our town (called the Jardin, or garden, the town's 'city plaza'), yet it's just far enough away from the noise of the city center (think church bells and fireworks) that it's tranquil by comparison. Casa Dos Angeles sits off the city street (no bus or auto traffic noise) on its own private, gated cul-de-sac, an extremely exclusive location with only seven homes, and offers a sense of serenity rarely found here in the heart of our city. Oh, and if you're wondering why I moved to San Miguel de Allende, your visit will soon answer that question: we enjoy a Manhattan-like lifestyle on a, say, Des Moines budget. I pen the social column for our local bilingual newspaper and can assure you that you'll never run out of activities to enjoy, be they an active day of touring the historic sites, an instructive day learning Spanish or a new artistic skill, or a lazy day lounging at the pool or at one of the nearby natural hot springs.

Three frosted glass windows enliven the bathroom, and a skylight brightens the oversized shower. You'll enjoy custom-crafted lavender soap and shampoo and Ralph Lauren towels, laundered weekly (more often upon request).

  • Your private en suite bedroom also opens to the outdoor courtyard with French doors just one step away from the foot of your bed, boasting a view of the gorgeous stone fountain and your own private tree garden and sitting area. From the luxury of your curtained four-poster bed you can enjoy the soothing sound of the fountain and awaken to bird song each morning, or close off the shutters and blinds for those morning you want to sleep in. Your bedroom boasts gas fireplace for romantic evenings, an old Spanish Colonial desk that folds up to hide your electronics when not in use, and a dressing room with plentiful closets and built-in drawers behind doors (plentiful additional closet space is available in the adjacent living room). WiFi is strongest at your desk (but available through most of the house) and allows for Skype or MagicJack calls back home, and you'll enjoy streaming music and an iPod dock, alarm...in short, just like home!

Your in-room information notebook will describe all the amenities available within a two-block walk in my little micro-neighborhood, from three luxury hotels (with their pools, spa, gym, bars, and multiple restaurants), numerous independent restaurants, specialty grocery & natural food shops, flower vendor, the best ice cream in town, and specialty shopping...and remember, the entire town is at most a 20 minute walk from your front door. Enjoy no-charge amenities like my hosted Happy Hour chat when time allows, and I'm happy to offer abundant advice on the tours, trips and in-town amenities available. Your in-home extra-charge amenities can range from ordering an at-home massage (al fresco or indoors) to catering services for an intimate dinner at home. And remember that while most all other rentals offer no security or watchman services, it's nice to know that there is someone to greet you and ensure a safe arrival, no matter the hour of your return.

San Miguel de Allende is a wonderful place and Greg is a very good host. We had everything we needed and this location is a very easy 10 minute walk to everything. We love SMdA so much that we bought a house.

Just finished a 4 night stay and had a great time. If you are looking for a home base to explore San Miguel that is well located, clean and comfortable this is it. Greg, our host, was informative and helpful but not intrusive. Even though you are in a room in his home, it feels like you are a homeowner in San Miguel. Appropriately priced and feels like a home away from home.

Beautiful place, Wonderful location

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in San Miguel and one reason for this was our wonderful accommodations at Casa Dos Angeles. The location is great – very convenient to the central plaza yet in its own private, secure enclave. Casa Dos Angeles is far enough away from the Centro that the hustle, bustle, and noise that is Mexico is largely forgotten. There are two exceptions, both a function of the nearby Parque Benito Juarez and both a part of the unique charm of SMA: the practice of the local militia band at 6PM each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and (stranger yet) the local custom of intermittent 6AM fireworks each Sunday. Neither were a bother; both both were quirky and charming.

The room is private, quiet and comfortable. The ensuite bath is luxuriously large. Access to the shared areas in the beautifully appointed residence is generous which includes the main living room and kitchen, and our host Greg was a great resource for local info – especially concerning the fine dining scene in San Miguel.

We will choose Casa Dos Angeles the next time we visit SMA and will be sure to recommend it to our friends.
