We live in a historic house in Newnan, Georgia, with our four teenage children. Chuck is a police officer with College Park PD, and LaVann is a fundraiser with Mercer University.
LaVann Landrum purchased this cabin in 2010
We have been coming to Big Canoe for the past 14 years to a family member's cabin. We always knew we wanted a place of our own,and are so excited to have a weekend home here and to share it with you. One of my favorite things is the drive into Big Canoe from the main gate. The winding road under the covered bridge, through gorgeous wooded hillsides, lakes, mountains, and the golf course is magnificent. I always feel my body calming as we make this route. After 18 years, I am still awed and inspired as we drive it.
Our kids have grown up here - climbing hillsides to find special rocks, sighting the occasional bear, fishing at Lake Pettit, playing ball in the playfield, their first brave trips down the rock slide as little ones, and exploring the many miles of trails through woods and to waterfalls. Big Canoe is our favorite place outside Paris.
We enjoy this home year-round. In the winter, we love to cozy up to a fire and watch an old movie or even a football game after a long walk in the woods. Spring brings more walks on the trails and especially along Blackwell Creek to see the mountain laurel blooming. We often take kayaks down the nearby Amicalola River. In the summer we enjoy spending time at the Swim Club, including the rock slide and the canoes. In the Fall, the colors of the trees are an incredible sight.
We enjoyed our stay at Big Canoe. The panorama of woods and mountains from the living and dining areas are spectacular. From the deck we enjoyed upclose and personal scenes of mountains, woods and far away vistas. We will go again!
Well our family, minus the new son--in-law, had a great time and enjoyed the quiet wooded setting of this home. Had a few day trips, went boating and fishing as well as swimming at Big Canoe. Saw deer but no Black Bears or snakes. The house was clean, bedrooms comfortable, and of course a good air conditioner. Thanks, LaVann.
This property was perfect for our family of 6, my husband, myself and our 4 boys enjoyed the space very comfortably. We were amazed of the drive and scenery to the cabin and location on the mountain where this little piece of heaven sat.
The cabin was furnished perfectly with a mountain feel, the kitchen was a dream alone with the unique table and off set living room that looked out to a perfect scenery. It rained our entire stay which made for and even more relaxing stay around the fireplace.
The owner was quick to reply to our request and went over and beyond to make our vacation perfect.
We are excited about visiting again and would recommend this cabin to anyone who needs a break from the busy life.
It was a very nice place to relax, once you find your barrings and know how to get around. The property was quiet and open so you can see the view
My two friends and I rented this home for a quick weekend getaway, and it fit our needs perfectly! It had beautiful hardwood floors and updated features to give the home a more modern touch, but it still had some design elements of a rustic cabin. We also had plenty of room to spread out without losing a sense of coziness. This was a perfect home to relax in and to connect with each other. Added bonus: Big Canoe is a beautiful area and in the Fall, the colors are stunning!! (Be prepared for lots of leaves!!)
We enjoyed our weekend in Big Canoe very much. We were able to take advantage of so much that Big Canoe has to offer and the LeVann made so many great suggestions that we took advantage of! This property is located in a great spot and within walking distance to a hiking trail that our kids loved. The house is lovely and had everything we needed to enjoy our weekend. We hope to return!
Our arrival on Friday went well, security officers checked us in and gave us directions to the home. We took a wrong turn but eventually made it to where we were staying. The home was nicely decorated and beds were comfortable. Went fishing a couple of days, our best outing was when we rented a pontoon boat and the kids were able to swim in the lake from the boat. Made trip to Babyland (cabbage patch home) the location has moved from where it was 25 years ago; tubing in Helen Ga.; and went to the North Ga. Outlets mall. Ate out at 61 Main in Jasper on Monday...get reservations. The owner provided all the beginning necessities and everything was working. Dining table was unique. And we had no problems with the mosquitoes or other insects. We had a great time and will definitely consider this home on our return visit in 2017 for our family vacation.
Over 20 miles of trails within Big Canoe, including along river, around lake, to three waterfalls, and within walking distance of our cabin, the trail wanders through 8 old Indian rock mounds and down to the edge of the lake.
