I am originally from Queens, New York but relocated to the Federal Hill area of Baltimore City in 2006. I fell in love with the neighborhood's many restaurants, festivals and vibe. I urge you to take a walk through the neighborhood when staying at Hamburg House to experience the art, boutiques, restaurants and bars.
I also was very excited to how everything was accessible by foot. This is truly a walkable area.
KHG purchased this townhome in 2006
I choose Hamburg House due to it's proximity to the downtown area.
The second floor deck is truly a relaxing place to hang out. I spent many days there eating crabs and many evenings there enjoying a nice glass of wine.
Second time I have stayed here.
Thanks Again
The home was very nice but the toilet on the second floor leaked when it was flushed and we had to climb the stairs to the bathroom on the 3rd floor. We called the owner and he was not able to have anyone come to fix the toilet, which was inconvenient. Also prior to the trip, we could not get in contact with the owner to get the code to open the front door. I left several messages with no response. We had to contact Home Away customer service to see if they could contact him. They even said if I did not hear from him, they would put us in a hotel. The day before our arrival, we finally heard from him with the code.
We enjoyed our stay in Baltimore very much. The row house was beautifully restored and decorated inside. Nice amenities and walking distance to Camden Yard, the Convention Center and restaurants and bars (our fav was the Cross Street Market).
Some practical tips:
There’s a Keurig machine rather than a conventional coffee maker. There’s a CVS around the corner but they are very light on groceries. Even with the parking passes, parking was a challenge, especially on weekend evenings. The house is definitely in a fringe neighborhood. We were fine with it, but definitely not a place for everyone, particularly since we often had to park several blocks away at night.
Some tips to make future stays more comfortable:
Provide regular sized coffee mugs and maybe stock some Keurig cups
Provide cereal bowls
Stock paper towels and napkins
Hamburg House is a great spot for a weekend stay. It was wonderful for the two couples who met to spend the weekend relaxing and enjoying Charm City. The owner was very responsive to our questions and needs and the place had plenty of room for the 4 of us.
Was it perfect? No...the ice machine was disconnected, for example, but the owner provided us with a bag of ice. Despite some minor blips like that, the place was great and I would recommend it to folks like us - looking for a weekend get away in a nice part of the city - Federal Hill.
The place was clean and nicely decorated. The location was very convenient to shops and landmarks. My only suggestion is that there be a full length mirror added. Would definitely stay again.
We stayed at the Hamburg house for a weekend trip to Baltimore to catch some Oriole games and visit the city. The house was perfect for our needs with plenty of space and all necessities attended to. The location cannot be beat if you are looking to attend some games and hit some great spots like Cross Street Market, the Ropewalk Tavern and other nooks and cranny's in the city. 15 minute walk to the Inner Harbor, 7-10 minute walk to Camden Yards, even less to M&T Bank stadium (you can see it from the front steps). 5 minute walk to a litany of pubs and restaurants. 7-11 and CVS just across the street in the event you need anything you forgot to pack.
The owner, Karl-Henri, was tremendous, communicative and could not have been nicer. He provided all information needed to ensure a great time was had. Additionally he took the extra step to place a "Happy Birthday" banner up in the house as he knew the trip was a birthday present for my son. Really felt at home and welcomed during our stay.
I highly recommend Hamburg House for location, comfort and ownership. Really top notch all the way around!
