This 2 bedroom apartment is an ideal alternative to a hotel with a fully furnished interior and attention to detail; you will enjoy proximity to Providence Place, the capital, train station, many colleges, and easy highway access to Boston. Located in a quiet neighborhood on the 2rd floor of a 3 family home. The front stair is Dutch (and steep), the rear stair is a standard build and easy to traverse. The back yard is a nice place to grill and sit outside.

Large backyard, off street parking, and fully equipped living space. Amenities include: fully equipped kitchen, microwave, coffee brewer, window fans, fresh sheets and towels, and blow dryer.

Walking distance and convenient access to providence place, the capital, train station, i-95, colleges, hospitals, and parks. 40 minutes to Boston, Newport, Judith point (access to block island); 75 minutes to Cape Cod and southern New Hampshire.

The worst experience we’ve ever had

Agree with all the bad reviews of the property.

Unfortunately, we didn’t pay enough attention to them and to the arguments and the tone of the owner’s response to one of the reviewers.

Also, the description of the property was changed when we arrived, found very steep stairs and started to complaint.

To prove it, I am sending two links to the property webpage.

The first link is the current version of the webpage:


It has mention of steep Dutch stairs - "The front stair is Dutch (and steep), the rear stair is a standard build and easy to traverse."

The second link is to the cashed version of the same webpage dated by Aug 12, 2016.

It doesn't have any mention of steep Dutch stairs:


We booked that property on July 29, 2016. At that time there was no mention of any stairs.(My wife has a problem with her back and we wouldn't book such apartment.)

We arrived on Aug 13, 2016. The description of the property was changed on Aug 12 or on Aug 13, when we arrived and started complaining.

There is no way we knew about Dutch steep stairs before arrival.

I made a local copy of the cached webpage. However, please, check the cached version of the webpage (using the above link) as soon as possible.

Owner's Response: We echo the sentiments of "worst experience other" offered by this guest. They are one of two who we wish that we never served in the context of thousands of guests now over the past decade. The note above is filled with blatantly dishonest statements. The following (with attachments) was submitted to Homeaway and substantiates the veracity of the circumstances. In short: husband knowingly booked a 2nd floor apartment and acknowledged stairs. Guests arrive and state that wife has chronic back pain and cannot climb stairs, articulating that he knew that this was a 2nd floor but didn't realize front stair (1 of 2) would be steep. Demand for money. Avoidance of accountability on personal choice. This was our most miserable guest experience to date. The only thing that is accurate in what Alex noted above is that the comment about the steep stair was added to Homeaway's site when Alex flagged a concern due to his wife's back pain. BUT, at the time, we thought Alex and his wife were guests via a competitor site where this IS noted. It didn't occur to us that they were Homeaway Guests. It only occurred to us that there may be an inconsistency that hadn't been updated and we asked our admin to look into it. (This is evidenced in the email exchange attached herein) We were not aware there was actually an update until Alex accused us of lying and later (by virtue of this complaint) was reminded that he was a Homeaway Guest - not a competitor site. Regardless, there are two stairways (only one is dutch/steep), and Alex knowingly booked this second floor apartment for himself and his wife - who apparently has incredible back pain. While we are very sorry that Alex's wife has to endure this pain, it should be obvious that if she is not using stairs in the course of her daily life, perhaps he should have selected an alternative first floor accommodation. Alex complained about the temperature and the insufficiency of one air conditioner. The following day, our property manager installed two additional (3 total) air conditioners and added fans. All of this was in an apartment that is approximately 700 SF. There were no pictures in what was sent to us; but, we did welcome Alex to provide them to us for justification. Alex was terrible to our property managers, fabricated details that did not exist and never took accountability for his choice to book this apartment, likely trying to save money. We are very transparent. Great location, not the Marriott.

Convenient to central Providence

Older, large size apartment in an OK, quiet neighborhood. Good value if you are comfortable with minor problems, like lack of counter space in the small bathroom. The October tree colors around Brown University are wonderful, as can be seen at www.vansloan.shutterfly.com (October 2015 album).

Needs some work

Positives - location, hot water, a/c. Negatives - the toilet wasn't secured, shower faucet comes off in your hand, no washcloths/handtowels, stained mattress pad, overused mattress that "rolled" to the middle. The building is old and shows it by "soft" spots in the flooring particularly by the shower. Esthetically, ceiling needed to be repaired particularly in bathroom and painting needed to be completed. Due to the height and steepness of the inner steps a hand rail from the door would be beneficial.

Not what we thought

When our cab driver dropped us off he was surprised we were staying in the area. We were expecting a quaint little house, but found a house in need of repairs. The linens that were provided were clean, but the existing comforters were soiled and we had to go without. There is a hole in the ceiling above the shower that allows the third floor to see down, and mouse excriment in the bathroom also. We knew not to have high expectations as the price was lower, but there was a lot of neighborhood noises late into the night and we definitely didn't get a good sleep at all. We did walk to the convention centre (only during daylight hours however- we would NOT walk around the area in the evening) and there are a lot of restaurants around. Not a place I would stay at again.

Owner's Response: We would never rent to these guests again. We were virtually harassed to rent the apartment to them, having not only a conflict at the time with a competing request but also many other interested longer term guests. We forewent another request expecting that this "couple of moms and their young girls" would take care of our property and benefit from the proximity to their event. They complained excessively about the extraordinary cost of the host hotel and those around it and were "so grateful" that an entire apartment (2 bedroom, kitchen, living room, wifi, cable et al) was 1/3rd the cost AND fit all of them. We wish we had never hosted them. All of the comments above are bogus. We have property managers and a cleaning crew who ensure the condition of the home is effectively ready for each guest. They reviewed the comments herein directly and validated that they were all untrue. Each guest is provided a basket with clean linens, towels, and a bottle of wine. Apparently they squeezed so many people in here there were not even enough towels. In dialoging directly with the guests these were the "real" complaints: 1. there was no picture of the outside of the home on the listing. Response: Google it if this is a grave concern. The Internet offers great tools. 2. She claims there was a drug deal and domestic dispute that occurred on our street. Response: clearly, criminal activity should have been reported to the police as this would be a concern for any neighbor or guest. It remains unclear how this is a host issue. 3. They arrived a day late and were overwrought that We did not immediately reimburse for the night that we could have hosted someone else. Response: we intentionally waited to see what kind of guests you were before simply reimbursing for something we had no obligation to do. But, consistently have been happy to reimburse for unused stays to guests who have been great. In short, these guests didn't have the wherewithal to communicate whether there were any issues or concerns during their stay - if there were in fact any REAL concerns. They were contacted in advance and encouraged to do so if anything did not meet expectations. They were dishonest about the number of guests they had in our home; and, the apartment was not left in the condition expected. They were hard on our home. Host beware. #notidealguests

New Hampshire

Quiet and lovely, in a nice neighborhood

I thoroughly enjoyed this stay. I was attending a convention at the RICC, and this apartment was a nice walk from the center. I had been a little concerned about AC, but the room AC worked fine! I enjoyed the walk into downtown, for restaurants, shopping and events, and over to College Hill to see the beautiful old houses.

Most places I have stayed I don't have a lot of interaction with the neighbors, but here, I had a few nice chats with the folks around as I was coming and going--including their advice on where to buy milk (cross the school parking lot and turn left--past Dunkin Donuts :-).

The owner was very responsive in advance and during the stay. The toilet seemed a bit slow, and she suggested waiting until after my stay to take care of it, but would have had someone there if needed. the apartment was clean and well-maintained, easy to get to.
