Get a real feel of the rolling hills of Pittsburgh while staying in a comfortable cottage built on a hill in a peaceful wooded setting. Plenty of room to relax and unwind while enjoying nature.
The cottage is only 10 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh (park and ride and bus is within walking distance) and the Pittsburgh Int'l airport is only 15 minutes away. It has 1 bedroom, 1.5 bath, completely furnished, large covered deck to sit on and relax in private and fireplace in the living room. Newly remodeled. All hardwood floors, new kitchen, bath, electric and plumbing. Local park is also within walking distance. It's the perfect place to stay and feel like you are at home while you are visiting our beautiful City of Pittsburgh!
I grew up in Pittsburgh and purchased my first home in 2009. My dad and I remodeled it together. I love the house, but a few years ago I met someone and moved out to the country about an hour South of Pittsburgh. I live on a 20 acre farm that is mostly wooded. I have a huge garden and I also learned how to can! I also raise chickens.
Laura Essel purchased this cottage in 2009
I bought this house because I love trees and to feel like I was in the woods even though I'm in the city. This house is surrounded by trees. It is very peaceful and quiet.
Close to Downtown Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Airport. Walking distance to park and bus stops and a CVS/gas station. Secluded and private
I love visiting my family in Pittsburgh, but I am not a city person. This house offers the best of both worlds. It is in the middle of everything, yet it is completely hidden and private. The house is built into a hill, and the road leading to it is a bit tricky. However, once you get acquainted with the location, it is easy to navigate. Do not get me wrong, there are other houses up and down the street (and on the hill above and below you), but the way the house is situated, it is very difficult to see any houses or people (especially when seated on the back patio area). The house is very rustic, yet it has all the modern conveniences you will need. The wifi is exceptional, and the TV has all the channels you could want. Because of the privacy and seclusion of the location, it is almost surprising to step outside and hear the "noises" of the city. You completely forget you are in Pittsburgh! However, I never heard any noise when inside the house. I completely and thoroughly enjoyed my time in this house while visiting Pittsburgh, and I will be staying here on all future visits! You will never find this amount of privacy and seclusion in the middle of the Pittsburgh Metro area.
My husband and I stayed at Laura’s cottage for an entire month. Firstly, Laura was a pleasure to communicate with and we couldn’t ask for a better host. The location felt central and we found to be a great spot when going into the city, further into the south hills, and even out to a concert at First Niagara. There was some road noise from the highway nearby (easy access!) but it wasn’t a big deal and we got used to it. The house was the perfect size for us. In some ways it’s a little rustic but all the modern amenities were there and we found the house to be very comfortable. I especially loved cooking in the full kitchen. Internet was also incredibly fast which is always appreciated. Thanks for everything!
My wife, myself and our 2 year old daughter wanted a get away for a couple days for our anniversary. We chose Pittsburgh because of it's location and sports teams and raving reviews of how nice the city is. Our stay at Laura's cottage was great! The cottage was comfortable with all the necessities you would want. It's only about 10 minute drive from downtown Pittsburgh but is located in a nice quiet area. The directions and instructions Laura gave were great and I highly suggest to anyone staying here that you follow them. We absolutely loved our stay, we loved the zoo and I'm sure we will be back, hopefully to pick up a Penguin game. When we do decide to come back I'm sure we will be staying at the same place. I would recommend this place to anyone thinking of going to Pittsburgh for sure. Thank you Laura for the great experience! :)
Lovely hideaway on a hill. Very private while still being minutes to everything. We really enjoyed our stay and were sorry to leave. Thank you!
I liked the home but. The path, I won't call it a road, was hard to drive on, and when you leave, getting out of the drive was difficult. What ever you do DON' T go down the road to get out. It becomes a very steep hill. What ever she uses on the floors left a strong smell of oil and was sticky. Would I stay there again? Yes, if it didn't have that smell. Laura was great. The tv didn't work and she tried hard to correct that. Just a very nice place.
Three of us stayed in this house for 10 days and it worked out great. It's not the Ritz, but the house is cozy and comfortable. The bedroom is upstairs and the living room / kitchen / bathroom-with-the-shower is downstairs, which worked out really well for us. I could put my son to bed upstairs and then hang out downstairs without disturbing him. Laura was always quick to respond to any questions and super accommodating for when we arrived and departed (our flight got in quite late on the first night, and she made up all our beds ahead of time and left the lights on for us, which was great!). The house had all the basic amenities we needed for our extended stay. We will absolutely look to stay here again next year if its available.
The cottage is located only minutes from Downtown Pittsburgh.
