About Jacqueline

Born in NYC, raised in Brooklyn and still I am exploring new places here. I can tell you that the most exciting place you want to be is in NYC, however it will tire you out. So like most New Yorkers who work in the city all day, I wanted to find myself a place away from the hustle and bustle, yet close enough to hop on a train to work or meet up with some friends for a night out. Brooklyn has become very popular and like myself you'll find it's a wonderful place to enjoy.

Jacqueline purchased this apartment in 1998

Why Jacqueline chose Brooklyn

I choose this property because of the neighborhood and how close it is to New York City. Brooklyn gives you a different feel and experience than what you would expect in NYC. I guess, I would describe Brooklyn as a melting pot with many cultural influences. For example, you can find a restaurant for any type of cuisine! I would say it's just as exciting as NYC, yet not as touristy. It's a place you can escape to as well and live like the residents here. Depending on your vibe, there is so much to do here. Brooklyn is definitely a place to visit while visiting New York.

Comfy, sparkling-clean, relaxing and lovely garden apartment getaway

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I stayed in Jacquelines's relaxing garden apartment for three weeks. Jacqueline is a warm and friendly host who takes great pride in her home, the apartment and the relaxing backyard! We already miss her and the apartment. The floors are gorgeous and are heated with radiant heat in the winter. In summer, the apartment is air-conditioned. There is a full-size fridge and freezer, an oven, dishes, plastic and reusable bags for shopping. When Jacqueline remodeled the apartment she chose lovely, easy to clean fixtures. The ceilings are surprisingly high. When she remodeled, she had the contractors dig deeper so there was more headroom. You will not feel cramped at all. There is a full size closet, some other closets we didn't even use, and drawers for clothes. She also provided extra linens. My daughter was studying ballet and we were doing a lot of walking. Since we were staying for a few weeks, it was a life-saver to have a really incredible washer and dryer. Jacqueline told us where the nearby grocery store was. We walked there for food and sundries. The neighborhood is family friendly, and only a short walk to the subway (super convenient D/N/R lines). You can easily get anywhere you need to go. Jacqueline helped us with the subway and we were able to find our way around very easily. There are lot of great local restuarants and diners nearby too. The entire apartment is sparkling clean and the surfaces are easy to wipe up any remnants of dinner or a snack. It smelled lovely and fresh. There was also a large tv with cable and blu ray (we didn't use the blu ray player) for when my daughter was so exhausted from dance that she could veg out. The backyard is tended with care and love. Jacqueline has created a beautiful flower garden and ample seating in the lovely backyard space. There is even a grill. The bed and sofa were both extremely comfortable with clean and fresh linens and pillows. The shower had great pressure and hot water. Staying here was so much better than a motel! You get a real feel for the city and it's great residents. It was comforting to know how much care and pride Jacqueline take in her apartment. It really shows. The apartment is private and secure; if you wanted to, you could easily forget you are in a city. Jacqueline has made a great use of the space (lots of seating and surfaces). It really felt like home. It was perfect and we won't hesitate to stay again. Thank you so much Jacqueline for a lovely stay!

Great place! Great host! Highly recommended!

  • 5 of 5

The apt. had ample space for me and my two teenage girls and was very private. The kitchen was not only equipped with plates/bowls/glasses/cooking and eating utensils, but also with spices, tea & coffee and a few other niceties. It was clean and the furniture was very confortable. Ms. Jacqueline was more than gracious. She was very nice, considerate and personable. The neighborhood was quiet and we felt quite safe. A grocery store, several restaurants and barber shops/salons were within walking distance. The subway entrance was only a stone's throw away with Manhattan just 15 minutes away. We didn't get a chance to sit out in the garden, but it was a nice space. I would definitely stay there again. I highly recommend it. Thank you Jacqueline for everything. Your place is truly a home away from my home in North Carolina - Barbara W.

Apt. As Pictured, but Safety & Service Issues

  • 2 of 5

This is the very nice garden studio pictured; well equipped, very short distance from subway stop, and owner is a pleasant person. The apt. is comfortable except for the transparent curtains at the back windows. A fenced back yard does not obviate the need for opaque window treatments at night. There are 3 major issues; 2 related to customer service and 1, to safety:

1. Security Deposit. Understand, I have NO PROBLEM with paying one, and have paid one for every previous Home-Away stay. Afterwards, deposits were refunded promptly. If you choose this property, request information on security deposits if none is provided in description, which was the case with information that I read. I remember wondering about this, but was busy and went on to other things. The owner sent me at least 2 e-mails and NEVER MENTIONED a Security Deposit. Shortly after I arrived (c. 5-5:30 p.m.) she said, in effect--I need the security deposit in cash, and noted that info wasn't in description. I was stunned! All I could think of was, "It wasn't in payment required online?! I don't have that much cash!" She said that it would be o.k. to wait until banks opened in the morning. Briefly, between hunting for a reasonably accessible bank branch, figuring out what subway train(s) to take there (and from there to originally planned destination), and dealing with excessive subway delays, the plans for my stay in Brooklyn were totally wrecked! 2. Changed Check-out Time. The website indicated that check-out time was 11:00 a.m. I had arranged to be picked up then. After belatedly providing info on Security Deposit, owner belatedly informed me that on Sat. Check-out time is 10:00a.m. When I told her that I was being picked up at 11 a.m., she said would be a charge of x dollars per hour. The info should have been on website, or in one of her e-mails at the very least. (There was a note online re hourly charge for holding luggage after checking out.) 3. Safety Issue. Upon entering inner locked door (from outer lobby accessed via another locked door, which is good), there is a short/small platform that is 8 1/2-10 inches above the level of the apartment floor. The door opens inward, requiring extra maneuvering to close the door. At a minimum, there should be "CAUTION, Deep Step" signs on both sides of the inner door. Because of the safety and service issues, I debated between 1 & 2 stars, and ultimately decided on 2--because the apartment is a nice one.

Owner's Response: I always hope to have a pleasant experience when I first meet my guests. First impressions are lasting and usually when I meet a person my gut tells me if I’m potentially going to have an issue or not. When I met Janice, she seemed like a nice senior citizen but during check-in, I knew there was nothing that was going to make this person happy. She walked in the door complaining. She even complained about the previous property she stood before coming to my home, so that already sent red flags up. I was pleasant to her and would never be disrespectful especially to a senior but giving me two stars is just down right mean. So here’s my side of the story and I’ll address her issues. Janice must have lost her glasses when she read my rental agreement, which states that a security deposit is required in cash and that it would be refunded at the end of her stay as long as no damage is found on my property during check-out. It’s pretty straightforward. I think she just didn’t want to pay, even though it’s refundable. The ATM at the bank is literally a block away. It also states in the rental agreement that checkout time is at 10am. Again, I don’t think she wanted to pay the extra cost for the late checkout. She didn’t like the curtains. Ok…. so not her style. The unit is on the ground floor so there are a few steps. It’s displayed online in pictures, video and when she walked in the door. As for the excessive subway delays that wrecked her stay, how can I possibly get blamed for that! The apt was clean, comfortable and safe…. this is what I offered and delivered.
