Historic 1830 Captain's home garden wing, huge private garden, walk to all!

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,000 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

This beautiful restored Captain's House is one of the oldest in the historic Village of Greenport. It's from 1830 and has so many historical details which were carefully preserved in the renovation. The house is within walking distance to all the great restaurants, shops and the marina. Despite its central location it's perfectly quiet and very private with a huge fenced in garden.

There are two bedrooms each with Queen beds, a living room and a huge eat in kitchen. The two bedrooms are on separate floors, so everyone gets a great sleep. The second floor bedroom is reached by the staircase in the kitchen, the first floor bedroom is located next to the living room.

There is wifi throughout the house and in the garden and the kitchen has a washer and dryer for you to use. There is a flat screen HDTV in the living room.

You will love the garden, it is huge and has mature trees and beautiful plants and flowers. There is a deck off the kitchen and even a gazebo, all perfect to enjoy the lovely summer evenings.

I stay in the front of the house. This part is completely separate from the garden wing (it's a very long house) and both parts have their own entrances and even different addresses. The garden is only accessed from the garden wing and is all yours to enjoy!

About Isabel

I'm from Germany and came to the North Fork by chance but instantly fell in love with the charm and history of Greenport. It is so unique in its setting surrounded by water, its wonderful food and wines and its proximity to New York that I've been coming here ever since.

Isabel purchased this house in 2013

Why Isabel chose Greenport

When this house from 1830 came on the market (it had always been in the same family) I knew this was a one time opportunity - luckily it was really in good shape already and it was fun bringing out its abundant historic details. The house has beautiful wooden floors and all the original doors and windows. The living room walls and ceiling are the original tin, quite unique and now shine in their restored glamour.

What makes this house unique

Garden with mature trees and beautiful plants, huge eat in kitchen with open ceiling leading up to second floor, washer/dryer, historic details throughout. Walk to all Greenport has to offer. Vineyards in close proximity.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at this beautiful house for six nights at the end of June/beginning of July. It was extremely clean and has a lovely private garden with great deck and wonderful awning. There were great firm beds, wifi, TV with cable and high end outdoor chairs. Isabel was very responsive to our needs and we enjoyed the easy walk into town.

Charming updated historic house

Great rental. House was well equipped, immaculate and very charming. The gazebo in the backyard was an added plus. We loved it here. Isabel was a gracious host.

An Immaculate Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Isabel's home is lovely and the perfect location!

First, let me tell you about the house. The minute you enter the gate, you will find the garden is so inviting that you just want to sit in the gazebo and admire the relaxing grounds. The house is well-maintained, very clean and has all the amenities you'll need during your stay. The furnishings were carefully chosen, so perfect for Greenport.

The communication from beginning to end was flawless. You can easily walk to downtown or the beach.

I will definitely stay at Isabel's home next time I visit Greenport, if she'll have me.

Lovely home, great location

  • 4 of 5

Lovely home, Very quaint and sweet. Perfect location, only 2 blocks to the village. There is air conditioning in both bedrooms but not in the kitchen which can get hot due to all the windows but all the light is wonderful. I would definitely stay here again. Isabelle had a nice basket of coffee and snacks waiting for us as well.

Peaceful, Tranquil, Clean, Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

If you haven't rented from Isabel, well you are simply letting some of the best things in life pass you by. If you're looking for a great hostess, quiet retreat, spotless home, beuatiful historical town in Greenport. Look no further...this is your house. Walking distance to everything, ferry to Shelter Island, beaches, but please enjoy the town of Greenport, you won't regret it. I promise!! But if you need to shop.. you are a half hour away to Riverhead to some of the finest shopping - Tanger Outlet, better than most that I've been to.

The house was everything Isabel advertises and more. So clean, so comfortable, so relaxing and quiet. The loft bedroom is fantastic, theh beds are comfortable. The outside garden, the gazebo, roll out awnings...perfection. Everything about this home and town was perfect.

I was attending the US Open during the days, but in the evenings when returning home, we spent many hours and steps taking in all of Greenport and it's beauty. Met many friendly, nice people who were more than happy to share some of their knowledge and history of Greenport.

Couldn't have been happier to have had the opportunity to rent from Isabel. Thank you so much

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a pleasant stay at Isabel's clean and well equipped home. (minus guest bath essential ...soap, shampoo, conditioner). Loved the deck and beautiful yard. The location was an easy walk to town and many wonderful restaurants. Had a fun round of golf at Island Country Club...just 5 minutes away. Visiting the Lavender Farm was a treat, as well. Would love to stay again.

The North Fork is known as the garden of New York. There are countless vineyards as well as fruit, vegetable and flower farms all around. There are oyster farms and fresh fish markets, it truly is amazing how good the food is here. The vineyards all offer sampling and live music, it's a very enjoyable experience.

There are many beautiful beaches around Greenport, some you can have almost to yourself and the town has wonderful historic charm and is all walkable. There are many great restaurants as well as beautiful shops.

There is a ferry to Shelter Island right in Greenport as as well as the Jitney buses and Long Island Railroad to New York (I find the Jitney buses the most comfortable and they take 2.5 hours to Grand Central!). There is also a ferry in Orient Point which takes you to Connecticut so you are in a perfect spot to explore the near and far.
