About Julee Skarka
My husband Pete and I are orginally from Northern Illinois. We moved down to Kentucky in 2001, and absolutely love it here. Pete had lived in Kentucky in the past when he attended MSU and fell in love at that time with the beautiful countryside.
Julee Skarka purchased this Cabin in 2001
Why Julee Skarka chose East Bernstadt
We love living in the country, and when we first set eyes on this piece of property, it was love at first sight! We really do feel like we have a small piece of heaven right here. The rolling hillsides, the deep woods, and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets just confirm the fact that we made the right choice by moving to Kentucky.
What makes this Cabin unique
We are very near to the Daniel Boone National Forest which gives us great wooded views all around. There are numerous trails everywhere, great for hiking, which we both love to participate in. We chose this property over all others because of it's beauty, tranquility, and seclusion. We desire that you would feel 'at home' while you are here, and we are dedicated to give you the best service possible. It is our goal that every guest who visits comes away feeling refreshed and re-newed, and our hope is that you would desire to visit us again in the future.

We had such a nice time enjoying the views and the property during our stay. Julee and Pete were very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay to be amazing. If I ever need to stay in Kentucky again, this property would be high on my list!
My dad and I stayed at the Bluegill Cabin. We were delighted that it was pet-friendly. The setting was perfectly serene. It was a great stay. We would definitely stay again.
Felt very much at home.
We enjoyed our stay in East Bernstadt. It was very quiet and peaceful, and felt like home. The view of the pond definitely added to the ambience. Thank you for a relaxing time.
Lovely place to get away!
We loved our stay at the Blue Gill cabin! Pete and Julee were wonderful hosts. They greeted us when we arrived, and Julee even made us fresh zucchini bread! The cabin was very easy to find on GPS. We found everything we needed in the cabin, and the space was just as we expected. We are so grateful that this rental allows pets, as our dog stayed with us for our three-night stay. We loved waking up to the mist over the pond, and we really loved the hot tub! Our kids and Grandma enjoyed fishing, although we never caught anything. (But we didn’t try very hard.) We drove about 45 minutes down to Cumberland Falls twice during our stay here. The falls are absolutely beautiful, and there are tons of hiking/exploring opportunities along the river leading to the falls. Overall, our stay at the cabin was super peaceful and serene. It was a completely relaxing weekend. Although the owners live close, you don’t feel cramped at all; we hardly saw them, but they were very quick to respond if we needed them for anything. (And we really didn’t need to bother them, because everything in the cabin was easy to find and use.) Our kids really loved playing the hide-the-dollar game, and we hid three dollars in the cabin before we left. We would definitely stay here again!
Great place , very peaceful, will return again.
Relaxation and country charm
We had a wonderful time at Blue Gill Cabin. The owners were great, easy to chat with and charming too! We enjoyed feeding the fish at the pond, and will definitely bring along fishing poles next time around. There was a wonderful area to hike (with many trails to explore) at the Wildcat Battlefield just a couple of miles away. And we also hiked around their property which was extensive and beautiful! 5 stars all the way!
