|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
A stay in our 1,200 sq. ft. guest cottage will help make any visit to Indianapolis one to remember. Located on a nine acre country estate just twenty minutes east of downtown Indianapolis, we believe Buck Creek Cottage offers both business and vacation guests a great opportunity to experience the city and relax in the country.
Built in 1994, the cottage is just fifty feet from our private two acre stocked lake, so bring your fishing gear. As the photos illustrate, the cottage is fully furnished with the newest amenities. A central heating and air conditioning system insures that your stay will be comfortable winter or summer.
Over three acres of maintained grounds and gardens offers the perfect setting for a comfortable evening at home after visiting the sites and offerings of Indianapolis.
While most of Indianapolis' finest restaurants are located less than twenty minutes away, a fully equipped modern kitchen that includes a five burner gas range, double stainless steel sinks, ample counter and prep surfaces and full size dishwasher and refrigerator offers an easy alternative to eating out. An outdoor gas grill is provided in case your cooking preference is grilling.
If your interested in golf a dozen courses are within a twenty minute drive.
If shopping is your sport, Indianapolis' best shopping locations are all within a twenty-thirty minute drive. Grocery stores, pharmacies, and general sundries, as well as pizza and other fast food, are all less than five minutes away.
Wi-fi and cable service are included and a large HD flat screen offers the option to just stay home and take it easy if you're so inclined.
One bedroom is furnished with a king size bed while the other contains a pair of twin beds. The twin beds can also be configured as a king size bed if requested. A self-inflating queen size blowup and a roll away bed can be used to sleep up to seven adults. We also provide camp air mattresses for children and a Pack and Play, with mattress, for toddlers.
As photo #15 shows, the linear layout of the cottage's one bathroom permits simultaneous and comfortable usage of the walk-in shower and sink.
The entry area to the cottage contains a large dining area and breakfast counter and an open pass thru to the kitchen area for easy service. The living room is located just off the dining area and the combination offers the opportunity to entertain a small group of friends or family if desired.
While most of the lake's shoreline is maintained in its natural state, a cantilevered deck is located at the shoreline nearest the cottage for fishing, swimming or sunbathing. Chairs and lounges are also provided to ensure your time outdoors at Buck Creek Cottage is as comfortable and enjoyable as your time indoors.
A large fire pit located near the cantilevered deck is provided for those evenings under the stars. Firewood is provided for a couple of fires.
Please note that the pictures include photos of the estate's main residence to show the grounds and gardens as well and permit easier identification of our property, as the cottage sits fifty yards behind the main house and a hundred yards from Buck Creek Road. The cottage address is 384 Buck Creek Rd., Indianapolis, IN, 46229. Just plug Buck Creek Cottage into Google maps and it will bring you to the driveway of the main house.
We look forward to your visit.
This property has been an ongoing project since we bought it in 1983. Over the years we have added the guest cottage, the two acre stocked lake, and a substantial addition to the main residence. These additions were intended to help induce our children, once adults, to visit often. They visit when they can, but the closest one lives over five hours away, so frequent visits are not practical. So here we sit with a huge main house, a lovely guest cottage and wonderful grounds, lake and gardens and not nearly enough visitors enjoying them.
The income from the rentals will help maintain the estate and the interaction with our renters, if so desired, will help maintain our sanity.
I've lived in Indianapolis all my life and my wife has lived in the area since she started teaching in 1976. We love the area and we think we can help make your visit, whether business or pleasure, a more enjoyable one.
Lawrence & Margo Strodtman / Owner purchased this cottage in 1983
Our property is located near Cumberland, Indiana, apparently the first stage coach stop east of Indianapolis on what became the Cumberland Road. Originally part of a forty-five acre farm owned by one of Cumberland's first merchants, in the late twenties the property was divided into five parcels. When we bought the property in the early eighties we thought it would be a nice place to live. With all the improvements we have made over the years, we now think it's also a great place to visit. Apparently our nieces and nephews agree, as they nicknamed the property 'Larryland'. And while, like our children, they are now adults, they still look forward to visiting 'Larryland' during both summer and winter holidays.
As the pictures illustrate, we maintain our residence on the grounds where Buck Creek Cottage is located. While we won't necessarily be around all the time we will be available when you first check in, assuming you have been able to give us a reasonable arrival time window. We will certainly find time early in your stay to answer any questions you may have about Indianapolis' shopping, attractions and restaurants.
The cottage was the perfect place for a family get together. The cottage was really nice and had everything we needed and more. The pond was really pretty. The yard was big and the kids loved the space to run around and we even got a game of kickball in. The kids also had fun making a fort out in the yard and the owners even brought over a sheet for them to use. Margo and Larry were great hosts and even brought over fresh baked cookies. The location was perfect because it had the feel of being out in the country but you were close to a park and not too far from many activities including the Zoo.
We had a great time at this property. Nothing but positive things to say. Our whole family enjoyed staying at "the cottage" and we continue to talk about our desire to go back. Enjoyed the pond, the fishing, the fire pit, the comfy beds, the tremendous hospitality and more.
I am not a review writing type but this place was nice. I highly recommend it and I hope we get a chance to go back.
Been slow to write this review, remembering what happens when a favorite cafe gets "discovered" and it's hard to get a table. What a wonderful nicely-appointed and inviting cottage, with the owners - like the wait staff at a fine restaurant - available when needed, attentive and invisible. Great sense of private peacefulness, quiet, comfortable, like going to a friend's place with their spices and condiments right there for cooking, games at hand, books in case you forgot to bring your own. Uncluttered, roomy, spotless. Blue herons and frogs and squirrels for company when sitting out near the lake with a fine cigar and a glass of wine. Just our secret, okay?
From the minute you pull into the driveway you realize you have found the perfect peaceful place that is still close to Indy.
The cottage is well furnished in every room with comfortable furniture. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with all the necessities we needed. The appliances were well maintained and up to date styles. All we needed to supply was our own food and drink. (Even ingredients for s'mores were provided). The bathroom is well sized and stocked with nice towels, toilet paper, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. In the 2 bedrooms the beds were very comfortable and all linens were good quality. There is even a gas grill provided that we were able to use to grill out on.
The outdoor space is AMAZING!!! It is a beautiful, peaceful, quite green setting with a 2 acre lake. From the chairs on the pier you can relax and unwind while enjoying the natural setting. You also have 4 lounge chairs and a wooden porch swing to enjoy by the lake. If that isn't enough there is a firepit for your use which is surrounded by wooden stump stools. Bring your fishing gear because the lake does have some fish in it.
The owners could not have been nicer. From the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies delivered upon our arrival to the invitation to seek shelter in their basement during tornado sightings in the area. They are close enough to ask question and help if needed, but still respected our privacy.
We booked this cottage as a place for my husband to recover from eye surgery. It was the prefect solution. He was able to have space to move around, a really comfortable couch to rest on and outdoor space for when he wanted fresh air.
We would not hesitate to book this cottage again.
My 17 year-old son and I spent a week at the cottage, and we were impressed in every way. We would return any time we are in town-- with absolutely no reservation or hesitation. I have recommended it already to several friends with business in Indy.
The house is inviting, clean and quiet. It has a spacious living room and dining area, with a kitchen, bathroom, one large bedroom and one smaller bedroom. All of the rooms are clean and well-furnished. We were very comfortable and well-cared for at all times.
Larry and Margo are excellent hosts, devoted to your comfort. They were available to explain and direct, and they were extremely gracious, but they were never intrusive. Margo even brought us a plate of homemade cookies.
The property is well-situated on a spacious yard, near a small lake with dock. We sat comfortably in the yard and hear the dock while grilling dinner and walked around the yard each day. We even met some very pleasant and hospitable neighbors.
The house is a near a municipal park for walking. It is also within a short drive of some large grocery stores and other shopping. Although it is private and secluded, it is near major highways into and around town-- it's very easy to get where you need to go.
The cottage is a good value, compared to much smaller space at hotels, which can be expensive and cramped, and requires restaurant eating for all meals.
Staying with Larry and Margo was an exceptional experience-- I strongly recommend it without qualification.
Our boys and us loved the easy access to the fishing lake, well stocked, caught fish all week. Our boys loved their room, and our room was spacious and private. The gas grill provided allowed us to barbecue all week, which saved us a lot of money. The property is conveniently located next to several stores (and Walmart) and restaurants, but remains in a quiet, private location. There is a great playground, for kids, and tennis courts located just down the street.
Buck Creek Cottage is located on Indianapolis's far east side. Google maps will bring you to our driveway and you'll see the main house as shown in the photos. Buck Creek Cottage sits fifty yards behind the main house right next to our lake.
