The Owner purchased this chateau / country house in 2003
Our family used to live here before we decided to move our prime residency to Europe. We love this place because it is so peaceful here and the house offers much space to promote creativity. This truly is a little piece of heaven! Due to our extensive travel, it was an ideal place to raise our children while being close to major airports and New York City.
You walk out of the house and stand right in front of the dock leading to the lake. You have an enormous choice of outdoor activities including fishing, boating, skiing, hiking, biking, air sailing, rafting, and horseback riding, . The area is 'artsy' and offers plenty of antique stores nearby. You can enjoy great restaurants only minutes away in Cornwall or on the waterfront of the Hudson Valley.
Thank you for everything that you did to make our stay so perfect. We got take-out food from Leo's and we were happy with our meals. Your home is so beautiful and the lake was mesmerizing! I can't put into words how perfect this was - my husband was extremely happy to have his children and grandchildren with him to celebrate his birthday. There were many matches of ping-pong with my son and & I and he still manages to be the champ! My daughter and I went for a paddle boat ride today and that too was relaxing and peaceful. My husband and I went for a walk with our grandson and I took some many great pictures of our stay. Again thank you and I hope you and your family get to enjoy many more happy times in Cornwall.
PS my daughter-in-law is from Germany and enjoyed some of the German books at your home.
Great house for activities and plenty of space for relaxing and entertaining. We had a great time and the location is perfect! Close to the train station and groceries very accessible from the city. We visited storm King nearby and that was very enjoyable. Highly recommend!
We. Loved. The House. The property. Was. Great !! The guys fished...the kids were. In the pool every. Free .minute. The kayak. And paddle boat was. A big hit. Silivia was. Great to work with. We would. Love to go back some day
We did a lot of looking for a place to hold our family reunion that needed to be near West Point, but when we found this house the search was over.. Plenty of room for our extended family of 18 adults, a huge kitchen that had everything we needed to cook great meals for our group, and even tables and chairs to seat all of us in the dining room!
The canoe, kayak and paddleboat got a lot of use, as did the ping-pong and foosball tables. Everyone enjoyed the pool, especially that it was big enough for an impromptu game of water volleyball.
The owner was easy to work with, amenable to having a large RV parked in the driveway and a tent pitched on the back lawn. We also appreciated the nearby supermarket and bagel shop.
We'll definitely be back the next time the stars align to bring the whole family together, and in case it isn't already obvious, we highly recommend this house to anyone and everyone.
I am the 86-year-old matriarch of the clan that just visited this beautiful home. For me, it was the gift of a lifetime - to have all my family (my children, their spouses, and my grandchildren) gathered together under one roof. And what a roof. Everything was available to meet the needs and interests of all. There was room to spread out for solitude, and a variety of spots where we all congregated. The sunsets were spectacular; the morning mist peaceful and enchanting. We all liked paddling the lake, seeing the swans, an eagle in flight, a doe and her fawn, the red-winged blackbirds, and the fireflies! I almost didn't want to add my review - wishing to hoard the place just for us when we wish to go again.
Wonderful home for a week-long family gathering including an infant, toddler, wheelchair-bound young man, and 10 other adults. I would describe the house as semi-wheelchair accessible. We left the wooden ramps we built for front door access in the garage for easier access in the future. (We hope to be back - and we hope others can benefit from the ramps as well!) Sliding glass doors could be adjusted to allow sufficient width for the custom wheelchair, allowing access to the lower level and to the main level deck, thus ensuring inclusion in family time. Moving between levels required going outside and around to the other side of the house (not a problem in the gorgeous weather we had). Assistance from an able-bodied individual was needed. There is no wheelchair accessible bathroom, but that was not an issue for us. We took full advantage of the canoe, kayak and paddle boat, exploring all areas of the lake. (Watch out for poison ivy near the dock.) Much time was spent on the deck enjoying the view, the birds, the breeze, and each other. The pool was refreshing after being out paddling in the sun on the lake. The kitchen was large and spacious and wonderful for cooking and serving meals for a crowd. (We were wishing for a 2nd fridge in the garage to store food for that crowd though!) The front yard was a good size for our croquet games. Although there is a lot to do in the area (which we expected to take advantage of), we were so happy to be together and so comfortable at this house, that we all stayed pretty close to "home". We decided excursions would be for our next visit! Finding a location that meets the many and unique needs of our entire family is a difficult task, but this turned out to be just about perfect in nearly every respect!
What a beautiful home! Ten of us stayed at the house for three nights. You can't beat the location and the neighborhood. The house is right on the lake with great fishing and water fun! The pool is beautiful as well although it was too cold to take a swim. We celebrated our high school reunion and the neighbors were great, we didn't catch any slake for staying up late with music and long conversations. The house had everything that we needed. The area doesn't have a local grocery store but there is a corner convenient store as you enter the neighborhood. There is a Wal-Mart about 30 minutes away from the house which was easy to get to. I would recommend this home and we will be back!
