Overview

About the property

Cottage,2 Bedrooms,2 Baths...with optional Bungalow separate cabin(1 BR)

Need a quiet place to unwind and relax? This farm is 600 acres of oaks, dogwoods, pines and wildflowers surrounded by the Bankhead National Forest, with no neighbors in sight!

Why do we call it the River Art Cabin? It sits on a bluff overlooking Clear Creek, the 'River' part. It was constructed by an artist named Art Fowler, whose original art still hangs throughout the cabin. Amazing!

IF you need more than 2 bedrooms and don't mind spreading your group out a bit, we also have the Bungalow cabin on the same property. Or if you would rather rent a bit smaller, more cozy spot, you may decide to rent only the Bungalow. We rent it for $100/night, plus cleaning fee. The Bungalow is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath, living room and wonderful kitchen upstairs over the barn. It is about 100 yards from the River Art Cabin. The Bungalow has a nice deck overlooking a meadow that leads down to Clear Creek and the Secret Beach! It is a cozy and relaxing spot in and of itself. See the last few photos for what it looks like!

You may want to spend your days fishing or tubing the creek or exploring the incredible canyons of the Sipsey Wilderness. Perhaps you would enjoy mountain biking the miles of Bankhead National Forest roads near by. Love hiking and backpacking, the Sipsey has many miles of hiking trails.

Love to hunt? Check out the Bankhead National Forest! You can drive just a few miles and hunt on National Forest land.

Enjoy birdwatching? What about a night with no street lights for perfect stargazing? This is the place for you!

There is a full kitchen in both cabins, but if you'd rather not cook, hop in the car and run to Double Springs for a homecooked Italian meal at the Sapore Grill!

There are two bedrooms in the River Art Cabin, the Master bedroom has a king size bed and a private upstairs deck with a sliding glass door. There is a private Master bath also. The second bedroom has a bunk bed.

One of my favorite parts of the place is the Gazebo, a beautiful structure set atop a sandstone bluff overlooking a shoals of Clear Creek about 70 feet below. You can enjoy a sunset with a glass of wine sitting on the gazebo listening to the rippling creek below. Or wake up early and walk down the path to the gazebo with a hot cup of coffee.

You can stroll for miles on our dirt roads or walk down the path to Clear Creek and take a dip in the cool waters that are a tributary to Smith Lake.

Truly remote. This cottage is at the end of the road... literally! You will drive down a small country road for about 4 miles and when the road ends... you are home!

Amazing Romantic Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have read many reviews and many people only focus on the negative but I can't do that. If you love a man made concrete jungle more than a natural place made by God then you need to stay somewhere else. My wife and I just celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary and were fortunate and blessed to find this beautiful place only about two hours from our home. Our son, daughter n law and grandchildren came up Saturday for Fathers day and I had the best fathers day ever! When my son first saw Mark and Maggies getaway he called it a "Diamond in the Rough" and my son and daughter n law are booked for their 1st anniversary in july. If you are looking for a perfect place to stay good luck I am 65 and I won't find anything prefect until I am called home. I wish you luck finding any sweeter host than Mark and Maggie. trying to not get too sappy but I think I am falling hard for the River Art House and Mark and Maggie! We are planning to make this an annual event for us!

could be a lot cleaner

  • 3 of 5

Both deck railing needs some support, did not feel secure. We knocked down a lot of wasp nest that was everywhere, also the carpet was very dirty looked like some spots was pee stains? We even had an uninvited guest a "scorpion" the size of a nickle, when you sit on sofa you sink up in it. Went to the private beach and it was all grown up, we walked till we couldn't go any further, no beach, also need to up date the TV and refrigerator. Beds slept good.

A perfect getaway to disconnect and reconnect!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay! With no cell phones to distract us, my husband, 4 yo son, 3.5 month old son and two dogs had a blast to just hang out and enjoy each other. We spent the days on our own private "creek beach" and when my oldest and husband went to go fishing, I enjoyed sitting on the porch swing, reading a book while our littlest sat in his bouncy chair. It was so relaxing and a much needed getaway. Thank you for opening your home to us! My son is already planning his next trip to the Creek Beach House! :)

Owner's Response: Thanks so much!! I am glad you enjoyed the cabin and beach! Guess you must not have AT&T cell service... the AT&T tower is just across the creek and I get a strong signal there. But you were wise and used this as an opportunity to reconnect with your family! Maggie

Very, very special

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful place to connect or reconnect with things that matter and with a place God made. Maybe not for everyone and not a place for hard partying and foolishness, but if you know how to listen to the wind, moving water, & the heart of your soul mate, then this is a paradise.
