Gated, 9-acre estate has NO neighbors, inside National Forest. 1 mile to Lake.
Relax and reconnect with your family in two, restored 1945, cabins on nine acres that back to open forest. Feel like you have the entire Sierra Nevada to yourself! Sleep in supportive beds and wake to sounds of birds singing in a bubbling fountain. View distant, granite peaks and watch deer and wild turkey as you sip morning coffee on a wrap-around deck! Spend your days exploring Yosemite and Bass Lake. Ride an old, logging train; hike up a granite dome; feel the mist of waterfalls; raft down the Merced River; swim, fish, or paddle in Bass Lake. Cook meals in a fully stocked kitchen with a spacious, old-fashioned butler's pantry. Watch the sun set and moon rise over the Sierras while owls call and frogs serenade. Play table games, share a Pixar movie, or read books. Snuggle up by a cozy fireplace and plan tomorrow's adventures. Make life-long, family memories here. Here, in my beloved childhood home.
Setting: This peaceful and quiet place is a destination in itself. The total privacy, expansive views, and forest setting are unsurpassed. Two lovingly restored (1945) cabins sit on nine acres of spectacular, pine-covered land that is surrounded by U.S. Forestry land. There are NO neighbors (except for wild turkeys, deer, squirrel, raccoon, blue jays, hummingbirds, and butterflies, etc.). Yet, this amazing, secluded property is less than one mile from the Bass Lake Boat Launch; 1.5 miles from Miller's Landing Resort; and 24 miles from the entrance to Yosemite National Park and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Houses: Two houses total 2,600 square feet and comfortably fit 8 people. Cabin is 1,800 square feet with two bedrooms, a loft bedroom, and one bathroom. Cottage is 800 square feet with one bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchenette, and a sitting room. Ideal for large families as grandparents can stay in the cottage. There are three decks (with comfortable outdoor furnishings) for relaxing, entertaining, barbecuing, and stargazing.
Background: Thank you for considering my beloved, childhood home for your trip. Sharing this special place with you and your loved ones allows me to maintain and improve it. I sincerely hope you will enjoy your stay and treasure the memories you create here. My eight-year-old twins are always excited to arrive and sorry to leave the 'mountain home.'
Interaction with Guests: I sincerely wish I could meet you and thank you for choosing my home for your trip. However, I am not on the property during guest stays. My Mom's best friends host the property and maintain the beautiful, landscaped grounds. They live 1/4 mile away and are available if you need anything.
Amenities in Cabin: There are three bedrooms: (1) master with king-size bed, sitting area, and extensive library; (2) guest with queen-size bed; and (3) loft with queen-size bed and a large, oak desk. Loft is accessed through the master. Both bedrooms are very large and you cannot see from the loft into the master. Cabin has one bathroom with jetted tub. There is a fireplace; central heat & air; ceiling fans in kitchen, master bedroom, and loft. There is high-speed, wireless Internet, TV, and an Apple TV with access to Netflix, HBO GO, Hulu, and family movies. There is also a Blu-Ray DVD player and numerous movies. Deck has large, Weber grill with propane. Kitchen has microwave, stove/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator with ice maker, coffee maker, waffle iron, mixer, blender, and Cuisinart, etc.
Amenities in Cottage: There is one king-size bed, one full-size bed, and one bathroom. Fujitsu unit provides heating and air conditioning. Cottage also has a ceiling fan. There is dedicated, high-speed, wireless Internet, TV, and an Apple TV with access to Netflix, HBO GO, Hulu, and family movies. There is also a Blu-Ray DVD player. Kitchenette has mini fridge, coffee maker, and toaster oven. Laundry room has full-size washer and dryer.
Supplies, Parking, and Safety: High-quality linens (e.g., pillows, sheets, blankets, bath towels, and beach towels) are provided. Houses have toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, bath soap, dishwashing soap, and laundry detergent. For children, there is a Baby Bjorn travel crib, Graco Pack N' Play, toys, books, games, and family movies. Property has covered carport and plenty of parking for RV/Trailer/Boat. For your safety, houses have fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, propane gas detector, and first-aid kit.
Pricing: quoted prices include both houses. The security deposit is fully refundable (within two days of your departure) provided the property and its contents are left in the same condition as found upon arrival. Cleaning fee reflects time needed to meticulously clean two houses and launder all linens; and my belief in a living wage. A lovely woman and her daughter clean the houses and earn the entire $210 fee. It takes them five hours to clean which reflects an hourly wage rate of $21.
Rules: NO pets, animals, or smoking as my husband is a kidney-transplant patient with severe allergies. Eight (8) people (i.e., adults, children, and infants) are the maximum allowed number of guests on the property during your stay. There are only two bathrooms and five beds (i.e., two king, two queen, and one full-size bed).

I am a mother of eight-year-old twins and an economics professor. I enjoy learning new things and meeting new people. I love hiking in the Sierras with my friends and family. Just looking at maps of Bass Lake, Yosemite, and the Eastern Sierra makes me smile. My favorite poet is Robert Frost. I listen to alternative and classic rock. Watching Vikings is my guilty pleasure. I went to school at UC Santa Cruz and UW Madison. I work at Cal State Northridge and live near Agoura Hills in Southern California.

Why Leah chose Wishon
This is my childhood home. It has been in my family for the past 50 years. The property has only been sold once. The original owner worked at the North Fork Mill and hand-built these two houses in the 1940s. He lived in the cottage while building the cabin. My parents spent many years upgrading the houses and landscaping the property. I miss them and wish they could see how much their grandchildren enjoy this place. I love the home and this area. It has been an incredible blessing to take my children to the same places where I played, hiked, and swam as a child! I owe a debt of gratitude to my guests as they help me keep this place.
What makes this Estate unique
The houses really have their own personality. The wood walls and old brick fireplace are so warm and inviting. The slight ripples in the hand-poured glass of the massive windows in the living room harken back to simpler times. Sitting on the wrap-around deck is a perfect way to start or end your day. I love to watch birds singing and bathing in the fountain; to look at the Peckinpah Mountain range at sunset; and to see the Milky Way framed by towering ponderosa pines at night. The property is so quiet and peaceful --allowing you to really relax and sleep soundly at night.

Awesome Sierra Getaway
What a great place. The home is so inviting and comfortable. The listing and photos are very accurate. The kitchen was fantastic and well stocked as our breakfasts and dinners were primarily prepared at the cabin.
The house and the grounds were immaculate and everything was in excellent condition. The cabin was spotless and did we mention the kitchen was well equipped, (I love to cook and my wife was happy her hubby had everything he needed to give her a break from cooking). The guest house is a great addition as it gave everyone in our group of six tons of room. Lots of outdoor decks and seating were very inviting in shady parts of the day and early evenings. We were there for 10 days and wish it had been much longer. After a long day away it was great to come home and wash off the trail with a nice shower and slip into the very comfortable beds. We all commented on how comfortable the beds were and how soundly we slept. Deer and wild turkeys made several early morning visits to the beautiful grounds and made for great morning nature watching.
The caretakers were on top of everything and checked on us every couple of days and called several times to ensure that everything was going smoothly. They were a delight and had lots of great suggestions on local activities. Prior to our trip the owner of the property also had a number of great suggestions on local activities and eateries.
We would recommend this little mountain Shangri-La to friends and family and plan on returning at some point in the future. Just a mile from the lake you feel you have the entire forest to yourself. Our family of six gives this lovely home our hearty endorsement.
Just a short drive away from Yosemite and super close to the lake. The caretakers came by several times to ensure all was well and they are awesome people. Oakhurst is 15 miles away and has grocery stores, a great little brew pub, a great little ice cream place. The Idle Hour Winery is right in town and is a must do. Millers Landing is about four miles away, where boats, kayaks, etc., can be rented and they are a delight as well.

Perfect Cabin in the Woods
My family and I spent a weekend here in April 2018. We were going to a wedding so there wasn’t nearly enough time spent at the house. We loved every moment we were there though! I planned ahead and brought meals to prepare there, which worked out perfectly. There’s everything you’d need to cook great meals. I love the pantry! The cabin and cottage have a very comfortable feel, literally like home! We did enjoy bird watching, a passion of mine, and the day we left 3 deer walked on by. It was easy to find and exactly like all the pictures. Very clean and just an all around perfect place to stay. I had a few questions before going, and Leah messaged me back immediately, which was super nice. I’d highly recommend this property. Everything about it was fantastic!
Beautiful, Peaceful Property
Our family stayed at this lovely property from 8/19 to 8/26/17 for a vacation to Yosemite, Kings Canyon & Seqouia NPs. Beautiful veiws from deck, deer & prarie chickens provided entertainment as we grilled our dinner in the evenings &. enjoyed our coffe in the morning. So comfortable, guiet & serene, a perfect escape from the daily race to complete everything! DOesn't get any better that this!! It is a drive to the parks but the scienery is great all along the route, Bass Lake is very nice & the museums in Mariposa (Gold rush era & gems) are exceptional!
Cozy spot in great location
We really enjoyed our stay in this cozy cabin. The cottage was especially useful and the new A/C unit worked really well. Everything was nicely laid out and it's clear that Leah (the owner) had given a lot of thought to making our stay a good one. One of the best parts of our trip was following the suggestions Leah gave us (via Email) of places to go and things to do. We followed most of her tips and were delighted with each choice. Thanks Leah!
The perfect mountain retreat!
We couldn't have asked for more with this property. How can you top having two completely separate houses for all of your guests? It was the perfect solution to having teens in tow.
Our original plans to vacation with another family got nixed so we invited our teenaged daughters friends to have one last hurrah before school started. We stayed in the main house which was super cozy and had every ammenity that you could need. The teens had their own space that was private enough, but not too far from the main house. Everyone was thrilled to have some personal space.
The main house was very comfortable and suited our needs for the 4 days. I spend most of my time in the kitchen which had every untensil and cookware possible. It was nice to have a quality set of pots and pans not ruined by careless metal scratches or neglect. The pantry space was awesome! We had a lot of food to store and had plenty of space to do so. The stove and oven seemed brand new. There were ample plates and silverware so you could not worry about washing before the next meal.
The house was cooled very rapidly by the air conditioner although we didn't need it very often as the house cooled quickly at night. It was nice to have that option when coming back from hiking though. Celing fans were in the bedroom and kitchen which did the trick when needed.
The cabin was the teen cave so to speak. It was a huge space for them to hang out and amazingly, play board games and do puzzles that were stored in the main house. Even with wifi, they managed to interact with each other with games. There was a great washer and dryer in the cabin for post hike cleaning. The cabin had a smaller fridge and sink which made it nice to keep drinks for the kids with them.
We did every meal on the nice gas BBQ on the main deck. The umbrella was great for lunch time dining and the table sat 8. It got a lot of use from us. It was our gathering point everyday. We were greeted by deer and pheasants at breakfast and dinner which isn't something you see in the city. We even made friends with a few Praying Mantis.
The location of the house is ideal for peace and quiet. We didn't hear a single person the whole trip. I was woken each morning by a woodpecker and fell asleep to crickets. It was incredibly peaceful and totally relaxing. I will be booking this house again for next summer without a doubt.
Clean, Comfortable and Spacious Cabin Retreat
Leah’s cabins were a relaxing retreat from our busy San Francisco touring and a great home base for our visit to Yosemite. The cabins were very clean, spacious, and comfortable. The second cabin (with washer and dryer) was just a few steps from the main cabin (with stove/oven and TV). My teenage boys slept in the second cabin although they mostly hung out with us in the main cabin. The second cabin would be particularly great if travelling with more than one family. We enjoyed having our coffee outside overlooking the beautiful mountain view. I had been a little nervous that the cabins were “deep” in the woods, but they are right off the main (quiet) road; there are no immediate neighbors, but other homes are not too far. The grill was very clean and worked great. The washer and dryer were very large and also worked well. Leah was a pleasure to correspond with and always responded quickly. We followed her suggestions and grocery shopped at Raley’s in Oakhurst prior to arriving at the cabins and we rented a fishing boat at Miller’s Landing (only 2 miles away) and enjoyed a cruise around Bass Lake. Yosemite’s trail head for Mist Trail was 1 hour 50 minutes away; approximately the last hour of the ride was in Yosemite park so we were driving in the woods along the mountain side enjoying beautiful scenery. Leah’s cabin distance from Yosemite was about 30 minutes further than other options we had, but her cabins were so inviting I gambled that they would be worth a slightly further drive and they definitely were. Overall, I would highly recommend Leah’s cabin rental.
Sunset Magazine named Bass Lake as one of 'The West's Best Lakes.' It is a wonderful lake for swimming, boating, fishing, and water skiing. Yosemite has world-class waterfalls, granite domes, and hiking. The Sierra Scenic Byway is a beautiful and rugged wilderness area to explore, especially if you have a four-wheel drive vehicle.
