Background: Thank you for considering my beloved, childhood home for your trip. It is not treated like an investment property or a rental. Sharing this special place with you and your loved ones allows me to maintain and improve it. I sincerely hope you will enjoy your stay and treasure the memories you create here. My six-year-old twins are always excited to arrive and sorry to leave the 'mountain home.'
Interaction with Guests: I sincerely wish I could meet you and thank you for choosing my childhood home for your trip. However, I am not on the property during guest stays. My Mom's best friends host the property and maintain the beautiful, landscaped grounds. They live nearby and visit the property during every stay to ensure guests' comfort and that the rental agreement is being honored.
Amenities in Cabin: There are three bedrooms: (1) master with king-size bed, sitting area, and extensive library; (2) guest with queen-size bed; and (3) loft with queen-size bed and a large, oak desk. Loft is accessed through the master. Both bedrooms are very large and you cannot see from the loft into the master. Cabin has one bathroom with jetted tub. There is a fireplace; central heat; air-conditioning in a new, wall unit in kitchen; ceiling fans in kitchen, master bedroom, and loft. There is high-speed, wireless Internet, TV, Blu-Ray DVD player, and an Apple TV with access to Netflix, HBO GO, Hulu, and family movies. Deck has large, Weber grill with propane. Kitchen has microwave, stove/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator with ice maker, coffee maker, waffle iron, mixer, blender, and Cuisinart, etc.
Amenities in Cottage: There is one king-size bed, one full-size bed, and one bathroom. Newly installed Fujitsu unit provides heating and air conditioning. Cottage also has a ceiling fan. Kitchenette has mini fridge, coffee maker, and toaster oven. Laundry room has full-size washer and dryer.
Supplies, Parking, and Safety: High-quality linens (e.g., pillows, sheets, blankets, bath towels, and beach towels) are provided. Houses have toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, bath soap, dishwashing soap, and laundry detergent. For children, there is a Baby Bjorn travel crib, Graco Pack N' Play, toys, books, games, and family movies. Property has covered carport and plenty of parking for RV/Trailer/Boat. For your safety, houses have fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, propane gas detector, and first-aid kit.
Pricing: quoted prices include both houses. The security deposit is fully refundable (within two days of your departure) provided the property and its contents are left in the same condition as found upon arrival. Cleaning fee reflects time needed to meticulously clean two houses and launder all linens; and my belief in a living wage. A lovely woman and her daughter clean the houses and earn the entire $210 fee. It takes them five hours to clean which reflects an hourly wage rate of $21.
Rules: Absolutely no pets, animals, or smoking as we have family members with severe allergies and asthma. Eight (8) people (i.e., adults and children) are the maximum allowed number of guests on the property during your stay. There are only two bathrooms and five beds (i.e., two king, two queen, and one full-size bed).
I am a mother of six-year-old twins and an economics professor. I enjoy learning new things and meeting new people. I love hiking in the Sierras with my friends and family. Just looking at maps of Bass Lake, Yosemite, and the Eastern Sierra makes me smile. My favorite poet is Robert Frost. I listen to alternative and classic rock. Watching Vikings is my guilty pleasure.
I went to school at UC Santa Cruz and UW Madison. I work at Cal State Northridge and live near Agoura Hills in Southern California.
Leah purchased this cabin in 1966
This is my childhood home. It has been in my family for the past 49 years. The property has only been sold once. The original owner worked at the North Fork Mill and hand-built these two houses in the 1940s. He lived in the cottage while building the cabin. My parents spent many years upgrading the houses and landscaping the property. I miss them and wish they could see how much their grandchildren enjoy this place. I love the home and this area. It has been an incredible blessing to take my children to the same places where I played, hiked, and swam as a child! I owe a debt of gratitude to my guests as they help me keep this place.
The houses really have their own personality. The wood walls and old brick fireplace are so warm and inviting. The slight ripples in the hand-poured glass of the massive windows in the living room harken back to simpler times. Sitting on the wrap-around deck is a perfect way to start or end your day. I love to watch birds singing and bathing in the fountain; to look at the Peckinpah Mountain range at sunset; and to see the Milky Way framed by towering ponderosa pines at night. The property is so quiet and peaceful --allowing you to really relax and sleep soundly at night.
Absolutely great place to sit back with a cold beer and enjoy what Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada forest has to offer. My family and I (all 9 of us) fitted very comfortably in this house. My husband and I stayed at the guest house while the rest of our family stayed in the main house. The grocery store are a bit far (25mins) so come with all the goodies but this made it even more special because we grilled and cooked together all three days. The most amazing part is the night sky. If you are a star fanatic, like we are, then renting a place out here is a must. Very little light pollution and we were able to see the milky way and shooting stars every night. Excellent place!
What a great place. The home is so inviting and comfortable. The listing and photos are very accurate. The kitchen was fantastic and well stocked as our breakfasts and dinners were primarily prepared at the cabin.
The house and the grounds were immaculate and everything was in excellent condition. The cabin was spotless and did we mention the kitchen was well equipped, (I love to cook and my wife was happy her hubby had everything he needed to give her a break from cooking). The guest house is a great addition as it gave everyone in our group of six tons of room. Lots of outdoor decks and seating were very inviting in shady parts of the day and early evenings. We were there for 10 days and wish it had been much longer. After a long day away it was great to come home and wash off the trail with a nice shower and slip into the very comfortable beds. We all commented on how comfortable the beds were and how soundly we slept. Deer and wild turkeys made several early morning visits to the beautiful grounds and made for great morning nature watching.
The caretakers were on top of everything and checked on us every couple of days and called several times to ensure that everything was going smoothly. They were a delight and had lots of great suggestions on local activities. Prior to our trip the owner of the property also had a number of great suggestions on local activities and eateries.
We would recommend this little mountain Shangri-La to friends and family and plan on returning at some point in the future. Just a mile from the lake you feel you have the entire forest to yourself. Our family of six gives this lovely home our hearty endorsement.
Just a short drive away from Yosemite and super close to the lake. The caretakers came by several times to ensure all was well and they are awesome people. Oakhurst is 15 miles away and has grocery stores, a great little brew pub, a great little ice cream place. The Idle Hour Winery is right in town and is a must do. Millers Landing is about four miles away, where boats, kayaks, etc., can be rented and they are a delight as well.

The owner was very pleasant to work with, and the cabin was indeed clean and cozy. The property felt private and spacious. Great place to stay!
The lodges were just what we needed for our party of 8. There was plenty of room, they were very clean and just the perfect location for spending time at Bass Lake and Yosemite. The lodges are very comfortable and well stocked with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. The outside space and the deck were used well and we spend a lot of time there.
Thanks again for the use of your lodges we could not have asked for a better location and would not hesitate to recommend them to others.
Beautiful lodge with eveything you need in incredible surroundings. Deer at your doorstep in the mornings, suppers on the veranda, great lake close by. Had a very relaxing time in this family lodge after hiking in the valley. Highly recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. The yard was very peaceful--nice not to see any neighbors. Enjoyed watching several different groups of turkeys in the yard--hens and chicks and a group of gobblers. The cabin and cottage are as advertised. Very clean and well-maintained. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of towels. The kitchen had everything we needed and the laundry area in the cottage is a bonus. Leah is very easy to work with and has great tips for the area. Nice to be close enough to Yosemite to be able to get there early in the morning before the crowds are too bad.
We made amazing memories at this house in Wishon. The owner was very helpful, did not mind answering innumerable questions. The cabins itself was the perfect getaway for me and my sister's family- 4 adults, 4 kids. The main house has 2 bedrooms with the master having a really cool loft area that the kids loved. The house also ha s a guest cottage which is like an in-laws suite. It has the log cabin wood feel but everything looks updated with very tastefully done interiors. We loved the location near bass lake. We watched the fireworks over the lake and also rented a boat at Millers landing. We went into Yosemite 2 days and also went to the sugar pine railroad moonlight special which the kids loved!. We loved waking up to the mountains as a view, deer in the front yard and the peacful ringing of the wind chimes. Given how busy the park was over July 4 this home was such a wonderful retreat. We would come back in a heartbeat!
Sunset Magazine named Bass Lake as one of 'The West's Best Lakes.' It is a wonderful lake for swimming, boating, fishing, and water skiing. Yosemite has world-class waterfalls, granite domes, and hiking. The Sierra Scenic Byway is a beautiful and rugged wilderness area to explore, especially if you have a four-wheel drive vehicle.
