About Anne van Beek-Rehder

Hello, I'm Anne! I was born in the USA, but have enjoyed living in Amsterdam for the past 39 years. My husband and I have traveled extensively in the past - US, north Africa, the Himalaya area, and much of Europe, and now enjoy our many interests here at home - art, music, languages, other cultures & philosophies, the art of horsemanship, and meaningful studies ----and I especially enjoy making our guests feel at home! Our guest apartment is the ground floor of our house, and has a private separate entrance onto the street, and everything to make your feel at home, in the 'Best of Both Worlds' - Nature at your doorstep, and Culture within easy access. I believe that both are needed, for an optimal quality of life. I will be happy to provide you with any help, tips, etc. that you may need, for a wonderful stay. Enjoy!

Anne van Beek-Rehder purchased this apartment in 1984

Why Anne van Beek-Rehder chose Amsterdam City

When my husband and I got married, we were living in the center of Amsterdam in a narrow street, and we were looking for a place in a greener neighborhood, where we could raise a child in a safe environment and still be in Amsterdam with all its interesting facilities and cultural offerings. Being so close to the Amsterdam Forest proved to be a wonderful choice. My family has enjoyed walking, cycling, horseback riding and picnics and so much more here, for many years. In the fall, the colors are beautiful, and you can enjoy a brisk walk in clean air; in winter, an unspoiled wonderland if it snows, and we have skated on the rowing course when it froze. And all this just right around the corner from our house, and from the ground floor which we now rent out as 'Best of Both Worlds' - come visit, and you'll see why!

What makes this apartment unique

All the above reasons made us choose this property for our home, and now the ground floor is for the enjoyment of our guests. We have loved living here for more than 30 years, and appreciate the broad views over the Forest from our spacious balconies op the top floor; you can hear the songs of many kinds of birds, because of the nearness of the Forest, and the sunsets from our upstairs views are fantastic. So many amenities are within reach - supermarket (Aldi) within walking distance (5 min), a fantastic pub/cafe just down the street (Anno 1890), and great takeaways (Chinese, Indonesian) and restaurants right in the neighborhood, just a few minutes walk from the apartment. By bike you can reach a larger supermarkt (Jumbo) and all sorts of shops, in 5 minutes. Or take a leisurely walk to these shops (12 minutes). We have 2 bicycles in the back terrace/garden, free for the use of our guests. You can ride the frequent busses (every 8 to 10 min.) into the center of Amsterdam - the museum quarter is just 15 min. away. So enjoy all the benefits of 'the Best of Both Worlds' and see why we love living here!

Great location not far from the city by Metro

  • 5 of 5

The location of the "Best of Both Worlds" apartment was great for someone traveling by car. We were able to park free just one block away from our lodging, and the Metro was only about a ten minute walk, (the same direction as the large grocery store). We ate at the same restaurant, "Anno 1890" five of the six nights we were there, since the food was great, inexpensive, and the staff went out of their way to Mae us feel welcome. Oh, and it was only 1/2 block away! he apartment is very roomy, appointed nicely, and had a washing machine, handy for folks traveling an extended period of time. Staples were in the kitchen for use, on a "take some, leave some" system. We will definitely stay here again if we travel to Amsterdam. One last thing, the "Amsterdamse Bos Forest was a pleasant place to visit, and we were lucky enough to see the Scttish Highland Cows, including one that was only about six on this old.

Great place to stay in Amsterdam-beautiful area.

  • 5 of 5

Anne was a super host! Fixed a small problem right away and even stocked a few goodies in the fridge for us. We so enjoyed being a little out of the city but a a short bus ride in. It is located near the Amsterdam forest- Anne has bikes available and we took advantage to be one of the locals riding all over!

Owner's Response: Dear Guests, Thank you for your fine review! I'm glad that you enjoyed the apartment so much, and its location in our green corner of Amsterdam. And nice to hear how much you also enjoyed using the bikes - the best way to get around in the neighbourhood and the beautiful Amsterdam Forest park just behind the apartment - and also to go into more central parts of Amsterdam, like the Museum district. You were fine guests and left the apartment in perfect condition, and are welcome to stay here again on your next visit to Amsterdam. Greetings, Anne

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend this property for your stay in Amsterdam. The apartment is beautiful and has everything you need. Anne welcomed us and left us fresh, delicious spelt bread, butter, cheese, fresh eggs, and jam. It's the perfect place to stay, with the bus stop across the street and the tram a couple blocks away. We also enjoyed the bikes and rode everywhere with them. Our favorite was the Forest (Amsterdam de Bos) which is right behind the apartment. The apartment really is a perfect location! It is comfortable and quiet, and has a kitchen where we made breakfast and coffee most mornings, and the bathroom is new! I can't say enough about this property. Oh, and we loved the artwork on the walls. We will definitely stay here on our next visit! Thank you Anne for your hospitality.

A Special Haven....far from the Madding Crowds...!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent several days at Anne's wonderful flat. Part business, part pleasure, this was the ideal location for everything. By far, the highlight of our trip was our morning and evening bike rides in to the Amsterdam Forest which is just around the corner and ideal for relearning back brake peddling on the bikes that came with the flat! The flat itself was very well equipped and Anne was kind enough to put some essential food items in the fridge for us - a kind gesture and much appreciated. Aldi is just around the corner, but it was nice to be able to have a cup of tea after flying in! We did venture in to Amsterdam one day and this was so easy with the bus stop just outside the house. Anne was the perfect hostess meeting us when we arrived and highlighting restaurants in the area, shops, bus times, attractions etc. Many, many thanks Anne for a wonderful few days. We do hope to be back in the future.

One of the best apartments we have stayed in

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this apartment any justice at all, the owner is so generous and very kind and there was milk eggs bread and cheese and home made jam as well as all the condiments you could need for cooking on arrival which was great after a 6am flight and being very hungry it was much needed, there is also an aldi store a short walk away to stock up, the park that is behind the apartment is huge and beautiful and even tho it was very cold only 5 degrees we still got the bikes that are provided out that are in the lovely little garden and made the most of it, it is a 20-25 minute journey by bus/car to the centre but that was fine for us, lthere is a bar a few doors down that is open til 3am at weekends and 12 weeknights and the food there is so good, there is a cupboard full of towels and fresh linen aswel which is great if you have little baggage allowance, you could not wish for more from an apartment and this will be the only place we will stay when returning to Amsterdam and we cannot wait for our next visit, thankyou for having us Ann x

Lovely house in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

The house is located very conveniently in Amsterdam, very close to Amstelveen. Bus stops are very close, as is the Amsterdamse Bos. The hostess Anne is friendly and efficient. She left us a vase of roses, and lots of fresh food. Highly recommended.

If you love nature: a must-see, as a break from the busy tourist attractions of central Amsterdam, is the beautiful Amsterdam Forest park, just steps away from the apartment. By foot or by bike, a green paradise (or in the autumn, enjoy the fall colours!). Loads of active and less-active possibilities and special attractions.
