About Anne van Beek-Rehder

Hello, I'm Anne! I was born in the USA, but have enjoyed living in Amsterdam for the past 39 years. My husband and I have traveled extensively in the past - US, north Africa, the Himalaya area, and much of Europe, and now enjoy our many interests here at home - art, music, languages, other cultures & philosophies, the art of horsemanship, and meaningful studies ----and I especially enjoy making our guests feel at home! Our guest apartment is the ground floor of our house, and has a private separate entrance onto the street, and everything to make your feel at home, in the 'Best of Both Worlds' - Nature at your doorstep, and Culture within easy access. I believe that both are needed, for an optimal quality of life. I will be happy to provide you with any help, tips, etc. that you may need, for a wonderful stay. Enjoy!

Anne van Beek-Rehder purchased this apartment in 1984

Why Anne van Beek-Rehder chose Amsterdam City

When my husband and I got married, we were living in the center of Amsterdam in a narrow street, and we were looking for a place in a greener neighborhood, where we could raise a child in a safe environment and still be in Amsterdam with all its interesting facilities and cultural offerings. Being so close to the Amsterdam Forest proved to be a wonderful choice. My family has enjoyed walking, cycling, horseback riding and picnics and so much more here, for many years. In the fall, the colors are beautiful, and you can enjoy a brisk walk in clean air; in winter, an unspoiled wonderland if it snows, and we have skated on the rowing course when it froze. And all this just right around the corner from our house, and from the ground floor which we now rent out as 'Best of Both Worlds' - come visit, and you'll see why!

What makes this apartment unique

All the above reasons made us choose this property for our home, and now the ground floor is for the enjoyment of our guests. We have loved living here for more than 30 years, and appreciate the broad views over the Forest from our spacious balconies op the top floor; you can hear the songs of many kinds of birds, because of the nearness of the Forest, and the sunsets from our upstairs views are fantastic. So many amenities are within reach - supermarket (Aldi) within walking distance (5 min), a fantastic pub/cafe just down the street (Anno 1890), and great takeaways (Chinese, Indonesian) and restaurants right in the neighborhood, just a few minutes walk from the apartment. By bike you can reach a larger supermarkt (Jumbo) and all sorts of shops, in 5 minutes. Or take a leisurely walk to these shops (12 minutes). We have 2 bicycles in the back terrace/garden, free for the use of our guests. You can ride the frequent busses (every 8 to 10 min.) into the center of Amsterdam - the museum quarter is just 15 min. away. So enjoy all the benefits of 'the Best of Both Worlds' and see why we love living here!

One of the best apartments we have stayed in

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this apartment any justice at all, the owner is so generous and very kind and there was milk eggs bread and cheese and home made jam as well as all the condiments you could need for cooking on arrival which was great after a 6am flight and being very hungry it was much needed, there is also an aldi store a short walk away to stock up, the park that is behind the apartment is huge and beautiful and even tho it was very cold only 5 degrees we still got the bikes that are provided out that are in the lovely little garden and made the most of it, it is a 20-25 minute journey by bus/car to the centre but that was fine for us, lthere is a bar a few doors down that is open til 3am at weekends and 12 weeknights and the food there is so good, there is a cupboard full of towels and fresh linen aswel which is great if you have little baggage allowance, you could not wish for more from an apartment and this will be the only place we will stay when returning to Amsterdam and we cannot wait for our next visit, thankyou for having us Ann x

Lovely house in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

The house is located very conveniently in Amsterdam, very close to Amstelveen. Bus stops are very close, as is the Amsterdamse Bos. The hostess Anne is friendly and efficient. She left us a vase of roses, and lots of fresh food. Highly recommended.

This really IS the best of both worlds!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted a home base while he travelled Europe for work for 2 weeks. This was the perfect place! The apartment is in a safe neighborhood, with conveniences of public transportation (bus and metro), grocery stores, some shops and restaurants, and even nature at Amsterdamse Bos.

The apartment was more spacious than I expected and had everything we needed. The bedroom is away from the street making it very quiet. My husband worked from "home" a few days and WiFi was always very good. It's a well maintained, comfortable, and clean apartment.

Anne, the owner, is friendly and very attentive to email questions and responsive to problems. She provided a helpful packet of bus times, nearby restaurants, etc.

Having bikes was wonderful! Like locals, we rode to the metro station and restaurants, and loved to ride around the beautiful Bos. The bus and metro are easy ways to reach the city center without driving. Both can take you to the best sights in 20-30 minutes.

Overall, we throughly enjoyed our time in Amsterdam, much of it was due to our home away from home! We recommend this apartment for anyone wanting to live like a local just outside of downtown.

Sehr gemütliche Wohnung, die keine Wünsche offen lässt

  • 5 of 5

Owner's Response: Hallo Bianca u. Alex, Vielen Dank für ihren warme Empfehlung meine Gastapartement! I'm glad you had such a good stay, and enjoyed all the conveniences of the apartment. The 3 shallow steps down to the bedroom are indeed no problem, especially since the sofa-bed (2-pers) in the living room can be used if necessary. I appreciate all your compliments, and you are certainly welcome again on your next visit to Holland! Herzliche Grüsse, Anne

Great location for exploring the city

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay her. Supplies were provided as promised, which was great after a long days driving for the UK. The apartment is well appointed, and lends itself to being a convenient base for discovering the west of the city, by bike or bus.

Beautiful, spacious apartment, great location

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic apartment! The photos do not do this apartment full justice. It is very spacious, light and airy. It is beautifully furnished and very comfy. The owner is extremely welcoming and gave us some starter supplies including some delicious fresh cakes. Coffee, tea etc are also provided. The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked full meals. It's great to have use of the bikes and to have so much green space so close. Very handy and quick to get into the centre of Amsterdam and wonderful to retreat back to the relaxed atmosphere of the apartment and it's surroundings. I would highly recommend this apartment - don't hesitate to book it!

Nearest Beach
15 Miles
in summer, 'city beaches' in 15 min. Sea beach:
Car: not necessary

If you love nature: a must-see, as a break from the busy tourist attractions of central Amsterdam, is the beautiful Amsterdam Forest park, just steps away from the apartment. By foot or by bike, a green paradise (or in the autumn, enjoy the fall colours!). Loads of active and less-active possibilities and special attractions. Stables and riding schools in the area, kayaking or canoeing on the waterways, or visit the Goat Farm for home-made goat's cheese and ice cream! Information on the Amsterdam Forest is available in the apartment.

For lovers of modern art: not just the museums of Amsterdam are easily reached, but also the art offerings of Amstelveen: a quick bike ride or bus ride (10-12 minutes) in the opposite direction will bring you to the famous Cobra Museum (modern art: permanent collection of the famous Cobra movement, and various changing exhibitions of prominent modern artists), and several minutes walk further to the Van der Togt Museum, a hidden jewel of modern art (various guest exhibitions of renowned national and international artists, and fabulous permanent collection of modern glass, sculpture, bronze and paintings).
