We had a very relaxing and refreshing stay! The Northport Cabin is secluded and comfortable, with restaurants, hiking trails, and a bowling ally just minutes away. Tom was very easy to work with, helpful, and accommodating. It was very clean and cozy. I would only comment that there is no dining table - only 4 barstools, and sadly the hot tub was not working the first two days of our visit. This was very disappointing to us, since that was one of the reasons we chose this particular cabin. I know sometimes maintenance/repair times are unavoidable. Also, the stairs to the loft are incredibly steep, so don't plan on any children sleeping upstairs. Other than that, it was excellent.
This was a perfect mini getaway! The hot tub was clean, hot and ready for us. There was plenty of firewood stocked so we never had to go out to buy some! The house was clean and inviting. The only things I would comment on are that the shower does not go on all the way and that there are no baking dishes. But for us, those were minor occurrences compared to the trip in full.
We visited the lighthouse and the beach covered in ice! It is definitely worth the visit out there! What a site!!! We even saw a couple ice caves. And there were nature made skating rinks that looked like a sheet of glass.
We would definitely recommend staying here.
Tom is such a delight to work with! There was a huge winter storm the day we were leaving and Tom allowed us to arrive earlier than the check in time so that we could leave earlier and avoid the storm. Top notch!
This is a great little cottage in the woods. It is very clean, fully furnished, and is surrounded by woods so you have plenty of privacy. The place also has a fire place and hot tub which made it an awesome winter retreat. I would definitely stay there again.
My wife and I are new to the state and have been exploring more and more every chance we get. We decided for the holidays we would gift a trip up north to each other.
We could not have asked for a better house or location for getting away and unplugging. The house has a great feel to it. very comfortable and well equipped. Fire place was ready for us, the hot tub was welcoming, the bbq was easy, and the TV/extended cable/wifi helped fill the hours in-between puzzles, food, drinks, hiking, biking, exploring.
There is a small trail system right behind the house. We rented Fat Bikes for the first time and peddled the snow covered trails. Then we took off on the bikes with lunch in a backpack and the dog towards the lighthouse. We billy-goated out through the forest snow and creeks to the tip of the peninsula. then took the beach back towards the house.
Walking the neighborhood was also great and i can imagine the summers here are fantastic.
We visited Cathead Bay as well. The sun ended up popping out so we walked the trails (very short drive from the house) out to the dunes and beach. Gorgeous! The snowy dunes were surreal. We hunted for petoskey stones (even found a few) while the dog took what must have been a very chilly swim (dogs are not allowed on the beach most of the year).
We will hopefully return to Whispering Pines again! It was as advertised and the owner was easy to work with. Thank you for sharing your house with us and being open to pets!
We enjoyed the house and surrounding area very much. Would highly recommend.
I cannot rave enough about our weekend at Whispering Pines! My boyfriend and I spent our first vacation together here for a long weekend and it was everything we had imagined. We both have a pretty bad habit of getting over-excited and setting expectations too high for upcoming experiences, which of course usually ends up leaving us disappointed. However with this getaway, we were only disappointed that we had to leave! When we arrived, the hot tub was fired up ready to go for us along with a bottle of local wine provided by Tom! The lofted bedroom was absolutely beautiful in the morning when we woke up to the sunrise, and 2 nights in a row we accidentally dozed off sitting in front of the cozy fireplace. It was THE most relaxing weekend we have ever had and I fully attribute that to where we were staying. The location was great- set back in the woods enough to feel secluded and private, but in a nice neighborhood that felt very safe and friendly. It is about a 10 minute drive south into downtown Northport, 25 minutes into Suttons Bay, and 45 minutes into Traverse City, where we did a wine tour one day that was fantastic. The coolest thing we did all weekend was visit the ice caves (or i guess walls, not quite caves?) at Leelanau State Park, which is less than 2 miles north of the house. Literally breathtaking! A must while you are visiting if they are still there!
Thank you so much, Tom, for giving us a wonderful, relaxing weekend that we both were in desperate need of with our hectic work schedules. We are very excited to return again in the summer, spring, or fall to experience a whole new vacation!
Numerous wineries abound in the county - be sure to sample some of them!
