WINTER: Our home is in the mountains therefore roads may not be accessible in “some snowy conditions” without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. In “extreme” weather conditions it may not be accessible at all. We are Pat and Mary Gavin and we have been traveling to the Smokies for years. We love it and it is a great escape from the heat of Florida. We bought our property about 20 years ago with hopes of building some day. We built this log cabin home in 2009. As is with most homes it is still a work in progress but quite comfortable. We have everything you would need for a comfortable relaxing vacation.
So much to see and do in this area. 30 minutes west of Asheville, home of the great Biltmore Estate. 45 minutes east of Smoky Mountain National Park.
We love to grill out on the deck and enjoy the view and sunset.
We were lucky enough to stay here last month. It's perfect. I have been trying to write a review since that time but have been unable to describe it correctly. The other reviews are accurate, but amazing or gorgeous does not quite do this property justice.
It is clean (I am a clean freak), it is beautifully appointed. Everything you need is there. And the view alone is worth the trip.
We wanted to stay up the entire last night just because we were so sorry leave Saturday.
The house is wonderful for everyone unless you don't have a car.
It is perfect.
The first thing I have to say, like so many others have, is "What a View!"
If you would like to wake up to see how the Smokey Mountains got their name, you will see it here.
The home's view is absolutely stunning! And at night, the lights from the homes down in the valley, seem to mirror the stars in the sky. The home is very spacious and my wife and I only used the main level of the home. It is very nicely decorated and has everything you could ever ask for in a vacation home.
Every day we had a different activity scheduled. We visited the Biltmore Estate for a couple of the days. We drove to many waterfalls within an hours drive. We went and climbed to the top of Clingman's Dome and visited Gatlinburg, TN. We also went and saw the elk come out in the Cataloochee Valley one evening.
The home is perfectly located 45 minutes west of Asheville and east of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. The town of Waynesville is also a great place to shop. Don't miss going into Mast's General Store. The shop owners in town, were extremely friendly and always willing to help us.
The Biltmore was definitely the highlight of the trip; however I do share the same opinion as many other - our view from the deck of the home was always the highlight of every morning and evening. It is fun to see the shadows of the clouds through the sunlight passing across the landscape of the mountains.
If you are considering staying in this area for any length of time and wish to take it all in, you will definitely want to stay in this home. My wife and I will be talking about this vacation in the North Carolina mountains for years to come.
The pictures don't do this cabin any justice! Everything about our stay was more then we ever expected. Pat and Mary did an excellent job with this cabin and it makes you feel right at home. Every detail put into this home was perfect and the view puts the icing on the cake. We loved exploring downtown Waynesville along with the two recommended hikes to Chimney Rock and Mouse Falls.
We have leased many many lovely mountain homes in this area over the last ten yrs, and we came away saying "This was the best ever!" As retired folks, we loved that the major living area was on one level, and that when our family joined us, they could go downstairs to another spacious and welcoming TV/air hockey room, two bedrooms and a full bath. Each family who comes here certainly has different things they want to experience, and there is a LOT! But for us, our favorites (at this age!) are the Ten Acre Farm in Bethel for berry picking, Farmers Markets, craft fairs, hiking, streams and Sliding Rock, Friday nights at the Street Dance in Waynesville, Pickin' on the Green in Canton, white water rafting, making s'mores, and enjoying family and friends. But the BEST, by FAR, is the deck!! 62 degrees in the morning, glorious view day and night, the birds singing and the wonderful smell of the mountains! Thanks Pat and Mary! Three weeks of absolute JOY!
The cabin is very open, spacious, clean and the layout is absolutely perfect. It is true, the views are just as you see in the magazines. My kids enjoyed fires in the backyard, tubing, and sightseeing. The highlight for them was catching dinner (for 8 people) while trout fishing. All in all, my family and I enjoyed our time and look forward to returning. Thanks go out to Pat and Mary. They make this an easy process and have really created that home away from home feel.
I would have to agree with every review written here. The views are spectacular - something you would see in a painting and long to be there! Well, here's your chance! As soon as you open the cabin door, you are awed and amazed. The cabin is extremely clean with a well stocked kitchen. Also, the layout of the cabin is wonderful. We arrived with 6 adults and 3 children and there was plenty of room for all of us to spread out and come together. It made for an amazing Christmas with our family! Mary and Pat were wonderful to work with and I would highly recommend this property to family and friends. They gave excellent instructions to their cabin as you come up the mountain - keep those handy!
We visited the Biltmore Estates in Asheville which was another highlight. It's pricey, but worth the visit. We also visited the Frog Leap restaurant which was divine. Downtown Waynesville is very quaint and we loved their shops.
Best of all, the cabin was the most special place to be as we made family memories that will last a lifetime!
