Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday villa in Bonita Springs - This Side Retreat

Villa, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

This Side Retreat is a unique vacation getaway with an emphasis on the visual arts. It was created by ceramic artists Ed and Kate Coleman to be a place for creative travelers to take a break and have a studio to create in. The house features the artwork of many artists from across the country. The clay studio is just a few steps out the back door. It includes the use of shimpo electric wheel and a Skutt 1027 electric kiln. It also has a large work table with tools, brushes, etc. The backyard is shared with another unit, #912597, but is very private. It is on a canal off the Imperial River which flows out to the bays and then to the Gulf. Rental includes two kayaks and use of our canoe for fishing and exploring. The property is about a ten minute drive to the public beaches and two state parks with miles of natural shoreline. Walk or bike to Old Bonita Springs with Riverside Park offering historic buildings, artists studios, concert series, and farmers markets. It is also a few minutes drive to the new malls in Bonita Springs including Coconut Point, a massive outdoor mall with what seems like every store and restaurant known to man.

About Ed and Kate Coleman

This was our home for seven years before we moved to the mountains of North Carolina. We are professional ceramic artists and sell our work to galleries across the country. We have put many original touches to this home to make it a unique experience.

Ed and Kate Coleman purchased this villa in 1999

Why Ed and Kate Coleman chose Florida South Gulf Coast

This property is in the heart of Bonita Springs. It's location provides quick access to all the town has to offer. It is on a quiet street that ends at the river. Bonita Springs is a great small town with beautiful gulf beaches. The Imperial River is an old growth Florida river that runs through the town. Bonita Springs is south of the Caloosahatchee River which makes it the warmest place to be in our country in the winter. It's location is fantastic, offering a short bike or kayak ride to charming historic Bonita, and a quick car ride to the beach to catch the sun setting into the warm Gulf water.

What makes this villa unique

Yes, this is cheesy, but it really is what we would do. An ideal day at this property would be:

Waking to the sound of brewing coffee. Sipping on some coffee on the lanai while looking out at the tropical landscape plants in the backyard. Looking out at the studio and thinking about what we will make that day.

Spending some time in the studio with the doors open, listening to fish jumping in the water off the back deck. Have some fun throwing something on the wheel. Enjoy trying to create what we had been dreaming up over coffee.

Head out in the kayaks or canoe with a fishing pole hoping to catch dinner.

Take a picnic to the beach to watch the sunset. Finish the daylight hours by going on a walk along the water's edge.

Finally, put a documentary on the flatscreen and begin to think about what tomorrow may bring.

Artistic Get-away

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here as we were visiting family that lived nearby. We wish we could have stayed much longer! There was so much to do! Beaches nearby with beautiful sunsets. Kayaks to explore the waterway from the backyard. Enjoy the Cyprus trees with beautiful sculptural trunks on the float. The home is decorated with creative art that is hand-crafted by the owners. We had a couple of questions before we left home and Ed and Kate were very helpful. This was our first VRBO experience, and it was excellent!

Hi - Please let me assure you that this review is true and 100% unbiased although the 2 owners are my son Ed and my wonderful daughter-in-law Kate (I would not lead you astray in any way). When you arrive at the condo, you will finf a plac that is very clean and very comfortable, you will have what you need in the way of readig material, a furnished full kitchen with artful plates and drinking glasses and mugs. Furnished with the units are bikes, a newly purchased canoe, a water canal almost in your backyard with easy access by water to the canals, river and for the true canoers , access to the bay. However what is most important is you will have 2 of the most gracious hosts tht you will ever encounter. Ed and Kate will do everything to let you know what is going on in the area, what types of recreation you can enjoy at your leisure, what sort of resturants are available (and there are many types and expense levels) , they will help with any of your needs, They have a working ceramic studio available for you use. We certainly enjoyed our stay and it had to be cut short by a death and funeral or we would have had another wonderful week in Florida. I would be more that willing to talk to anyone about their condo and te experience tht we enjoyed and you can get our phone number from Ed or Kate if you would like to talk to us on the phone. Do yourself a favor and read th other reviews from previous clients that are not so closely related. This is just a charming place and it is especially designed to make you feel relaxed and wonderful hile there

Loved this rental home!

  • 5 of 5

My 13-year old daughter and I stayed here during our Spring Break this year. What a wonderful home! It was cozy and comfortable and cute. The house was very clean and decorated well. Especially loved all the wonderful clay art pieces throughout. And most especially the clay plates and mugs made by the owner! So cool. The backyard is beautifully done...a wonderful and serene place to relax. The home location is FANTASTIC. Very close to Publix and Fresh Market grocery stores. A 10 minute drive to Barefoot Beach. Easily accessible walking/bike path on Terry Road. We used bikes and rode over to nearby Riverside Park one evening. Comfortable beds and quiet area. Having laundry was convenient. Great kitchen setup...we had everything we needed. We had a GREAT stay at this house - we would definitely stay again and we highly recommend to others. :-)

Unique, well furnished and clean.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this unique property. We liked the artsy furnishings, the nearness to the park and community pool, the well appointed kitchen, the use of the bikes and kayaks, morning coffee on the lanai , bird watching and grilling in the backyard. We found so much to do (such as the pool morning water classes, nearby beaches, art museums, and restaurants) we didn't get to creating any pottery masterpieces. We will try that next time!

What a great experience!

  • 5 of 5

This Side is not just a place to rent it's an experience! The only way it could have been better is if we could have stayed longer. The house was very comfortable, cute and loaded with tons of charm everywhere you turn. I'm a potter, so I played in the studio all week sharpening my throwing skills. It's great for beginners wanting to try pottery or experienced potters who plan to make a series of pots inspired by Florida. The location is excellent, a short drive to the beach and close enough to Naples and Sanibel that we went often. My husband is an avid birder and was thrilled with the amazing birds in the area. http://orangebirding.com/?p=4401. Even if you are not a birder it's hard not to notice all the unusual species. We visited the Botanical Gardens in Naples, which was just beautiful, and used the bikes a few times to stay local. We also enjoyed taking a spin on the kayaks. The possibilities to enjoy your day are endless there. Ed & Kate were extremely easy to communicate with and everything went off without a hitch. Also the house was spotless. What more could you want?

Beautiful Quaint Little Home

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved the small home that we rented for just one week. We had all the amenities that we desired along with location location to everything. Beach, restaurants, biking, kayaking, and library right around the corner. Big back yard with not grass, but beautifully landscaped with sculptors and pottery. And if you desire to do a little pottery, there is a small room/barn that you can sit and create till your heart desire. We thoroughly enjoyed this place, clean, accomodating and quiet place to relax before we moved into our new home. Thank you for letting us have a little peace and tranguility at your home away from home. Patrick and Mary Abshire
