The Goat Cottage welcomes guests with their dog all year. The cottage is a transformed , spacious dance studio with a cd collection, guest art gallery wall where guests of every age are welcomed to draw. Everyone's art work is framed & hung behind a table with supplies & inspirational art books. There are playing cards, puzzles and books .The studio space is roomy with high ceilings,a king ,twin daybed ( screens for privacy) a loft with a twin, 2 tables,2 couches, a mirrored wall and room for dance or yoga. Dance sometimes happens spontaneously with skirts or veils. The separate Nest Room has a queen bed. Fresh eggs are yours from our 20 chickens. The Cottage is surrounded by the goat trail but the goats don't bother anyone. Goats are quiet, friendly and curious to meet everyone who walks over to say hello. Guests can schedule to see the musical goat show trail when all 6 goats run, jump and climb 10 stages leading to a Sakonnet river view .Guests can watch outside the fence or can follow me and climb up on the different stages with the goats. The goat show can take 20 minutes or longer so you can get to know their different personalities. The fully equipped kitchen ( used by a wonderful chef who stayed for a week) has a list of favorite places to visit. If you have any questions let us know. Yours goatly Mark and Barbara.

From California our very first guests wrote " Such a lovely cottage. Goats are grazing , chickens clucking, flower greenery abounds . Rustic and inspired art is everywhere! It is embracing and soothing . We slept so soundly and comfortably . To look up at the trees through the skylights thru the warm wood, red ceiling- so peaceful - Thank you so much ....From NYC " I came here with my two sons and my husband. We spent 2 nights and it was a wonderful experience for all of us. The kids enjoyed watching and feeding the animals. Thanks to Barbara for making this happen. This will be one of our memorable trips. Thank you Barbara for being a great host and the boys love you. We had a very comfortable stay"...... From Mass & North Carolina " We spent a delightful 4th of July in this beautiful space! Barbara was the perfect hostess, providing guidance on beaches and other fun places for adventure . About Barbara

Mark and I are both from Rye NY. Our three kids, two years ago, gave us goats. As they say" the rest is history". Mark and I are both from sailing families. He works on boat contracts and sells the newest, beautiful mooring buoy design. I am a life time dancer and teacher.

Why Barbara chose Tiverton

We call our home Camp Tiverton. Not sure why but it stuck. Tiverton is special.

What makes this cottage unique

The day we came to see our house we loved the driveway and the wind was blowing off the river

Magic Kingdom!

  • 5 of 5

Goatopia is an incredibly beautiful place - on a spit of land surrounded by water, filled with light and art and everything you could imagine in terms of comfort and creative space. Barb, the owner, is absolutely delicious - warm, easy-going and incredibly generous. Fresh eggs from the chickens! Fresh lettuce from the garden! Art supplies! She even loaned us a leash for our dog, when ours proved to be too restraining. The goats are delightful! The whole experience has been magical, and we can't wait to come back!

One of a Kind!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I just spent the weekend with another couple at Goatopia, and we all found it to be a delightful sanctuary and aesthetic wonderland! The property itself is beautiful and expansive. Numerous heady and whimsical art and sculptures endow it with a far out feel. Very trippy! The house itself is a psychedelic masterpiece. Nice open space, with the kind of decor that just melts away the day-to-day and brings you to a place where you can truly relax!

Possibly the most Zen aspect of Goatopia is the goats themselves. They are adorable and curious, and they are visible from inside!

The surrounding towns are scenic and have plenty of tourist destinations. This is a great central location if you want beaches, Newport shopping and restaurants, or a relaxing country drive. We would all gladly stay here again.

Amazing, magical, fun and rejuvenating!!

  • 5 of 5

The Goat Cottage is not “just a place to stay”. It is a magical experience. Barbara’s creative spirit shines through in every aspect of the cottage and grounds. Yes, it is everything that is described – well equipped, bright, spacious, colorful, airy, super soft king bed you can almost float in, lots of music, games (including bocce), art supplies, huge soft bath towels, etc. etc. But it is so much more – fun, peaceful, eclectic, inspirational, and relaxing. After finding this site and talking with Barbara, I shared with her that it was our 40th wedding anniversary and asked her if she would “officiate” a ceremony to renew our vows. She agreed and went above and beyond to make this a memorable event for us! In addition to the fresh eggs and beautiful flowers, she also greeted us with a bottle of champagne and a special goat Anniversary card and prepared us a delicious goat cheese cake, decorated of course with a colorful goat! She even snagged her tree trimmers who happened by to be our photographers (and they were also quite fun and great photographers)! Barbara was so entertaining to be with and shared many interesting life stories. We even got to see some of her lovely dance moves. Mark was also very fun and interesting to talk to and both responded to any questions or issues immediately. The goats are delightful and even wore flower leis and neck adornments for our ceremony. The ballet was awesome.

This is a joyful place and perfect for so many different types of stays. With all the candles lit at night it was so romantic and the views through the many skylights and windows added even more to the mood. This would also be perfect for a family, a girl’s weekend or a creative retreat, alone or with a group. Great memories and a new friendship were created here!!!

Owner's Response: Linda and Kirk , You know the expression Kismet ? One of my favorites. It means " Magically supposed to happen, happens " . Its really true that if you hadn't called a few months ago to ask me if would help you ( never was asked before - wasn't sure how to do it or if I could) renew your wedding vows the summer circle garden wouldn't be. when you asked me in the winter my brain went round and round trying to figure out where the best spot would be. Turned out a whole new one was made just in time at the tail end of this long winter. I have happy tears reading your words. Thanks so much for calling me in person to tall about your wedding vows. 40 wedding yrs !!!! Amazing and beautiful!. Cheers to both of you and best wishes till we meet again .....Yours truly ,Barbara and Mark

Fun, Quirky, and Memorable

  • 5 of 5

Goatopia was a fun, quirky, and memorable home rental experience!

We stayed in the Goat Cottage, which is across the yard from the main house, but still feels plenty private. The hosts respect your privacy, but they are close by and you can expect to see them feeding the goats or tending the yard. Barbara has a lot of joie de vivre. She's very friendly and seems to genuinely enjoy hosting and meeting guests. She's had interesting path in life and if you're curious, she's got plenty of stories to tell about it!

Despite the cold weather we were toasty and cozy inside, and the giant master bed was awesome. We slept like logs and had room to spare for the dog at our feet. The high ceilings were luxurious and provided tons of wonderful natural light. There's lots of space to relax and the place has a really nice open layout. This is a great spot for reading, writing, doing art, or any other relaxing indoor activities. There's also room for board games, puzzles, or watching a movie on your laptop or tablet.

The kitchen was sufficiently stocked with all the tools we needed to cook a few nice meals and even do a little baking. And it was really sweet to have a romantic dinner at the table in the main area, too. The fresh farm eggs and flowers were a wonderful touch.

It was too cold for us to enjoy the outdoor seating area much, but it looks like it would be fantastic in warmer weather. Our dog, Lucky, was so happy to join us on our stay and loved sniffing around the yard. The hosts' dog was a large, sweetheart German Shephard with a lot of energy. He clearly wanted to play, but Lucky was a little spooked by his size so we mostly kept them separate.

But the main attraction for us was absolutely the goats, and they delivered! Each day, Barbara invited us to join her while she fed them and led them through a sort of obstacle course (the "goat trail") where you can watch them climbing onto a variety of structures she's built for them. If you're up for it (we were!) you can feed them treats and pet them, which was super fun and kind of hilarious. Just be aware that they really like those treats and won't say please before seeking them out. It's a great way to see their different personalities up close, and for us city dwellers, a rare opportunity to spend quality time with some cute and playful farm animals. As Barbara would say, you'll feel like a kid again playing with the "kids".

We had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend staying there!

It was so beautiful and such a wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

I had been looking for a place to just have my birthday party because my house wasn’t exactly equipt for one but every place I looked didn’t quite fit. Eventually I found this listing and I am so happy I did. I had my seventh birthday party here and all my friends can agree it brings a nice chill vibe to it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone at any age. Definitely planing to go back and visit in the summer once again. Its very spacious and the inside and outside for photos.

Fun, Clean and a nice hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This is one of the most fun places we have ever stayed. The cottage is delightful and filled with beautiful colors and artistic flair. Barbara has filled the cottage with the most stunning accents and art. You can come alone, as a romantic getaway, or with your entire family! I would also highly suggest it for a 'girls' weekend. It's close to the beach in Tiverton and some nice shopping areas in local Tiverton, Little Compton, and Westport. My husband and I really enjoyed it. The goats are there but not ever present as I had expected, but it wasn't about the goats, it was about a nice get away and that was perfect! Thank you Barbara for making our stay lovely. There's a full kitchen if you want to cook but enough places nearby to eat out. Go try it and be prepared to have FUN!
