The W home is a unique 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1450 sqf house, nestled in palm trees, overlooking an inland lake.
The home features an open floor plan that allows air and light to flow. The interior follows a modern, yet warm pattern. Every detail has been paid attention to.
The outdoor area features an open lawn space with hammocks, swing chair and two swings, where palm trees provide shade on a hot day. An outdoor shower awaits our guests for an immediate cool down. Two houses down, our guests can dive into a beautiful heated pool that is exclusively for guests of the Safety Harbor Community. Right next to the pool, our guests find 2 tennis courts that are surrounded by tropical vegetation. The semi-private beach access to a secluded beach is only a five minute walk away. In case you are arriving with your own boat, dockage can be provided. The W home offers its own book library for our guests as well as a state of the art entertainment system with 2 flat screen TV's and DVD players.
Originally from Europe, we were searching for a place that would allow us to wander and get lost in nature. We have found it in North Captiva. Its Caribbean feel makes us believe we are far away from the busy life we live in the U.S.. North Captiva, an island where an entire half is a natural preserve with only wildlife inhabitants, has become this special place of freedom for us.
The W home purchased this house in 2014
The W home is a very unique home, different from most vacation rentals. It is a modern home, decorated in light colors. Every detail has been selected and arranged to make it distinctive. High quality furnishings and attention to detail are important supporters of our modern design.
First things first, with the W Home, Melanie and Tom created a wonderful place in paradies!
We flew over from Germany to Miami and took a rental car right at the airport. The car ride to the little ferry station takes about 2.5 hours. Make sure though to plan some time for grocery shopping as well. There are two supermarkets very close to the departure point and both offer "boat-packing" of your goods. Directions to those and many more information is included in the letter you get from Melanie. You can park your car right at the ferry company. The short bus ride to the ferry and the trip over to North Captiva takes only about 30 minutes and you already get a good idea about how beautiful this area is. Once you arrived on the island you will be picked up with a golf cart and transferred to the house (3-4 minutes).
The house is beautifully located at a small lake and fully equipped with everything you need (or not need) during your stay. Kitchen, grill, TVs, Wlan, washing machine, dryer. The three bedrooms offer enough space for a big family. The golf cart also belongs to the house and would deserve a review by itself. We highly recommend to use it to explore the island.
The island itself is truely remote. Houses only exist on the northern part, whereas the southern part is a protected nature reserve and can only be accessed by foot. A walk down there is a must though, beautiful beaches and wildlife, including rare birds, turtles and if you are more lucky than us even bobcats. The habitated part of the island bears the safety harbor club with a pool area you can access, few but excellent restaurants and a small shop where you can get the most crucial things like milk, bread etc.
My wife, our seven months old daughter and I went there in November and enjoyed every minute. We will certainly come back!
From the moment we made contact with Melanie, she made us feel welcomed! We were met at the dock by a property manager, Duncan, that helped give us the layout of the island and the W home. Melanie was in constant contact with us to be sure our needs were met. Our family had a wonderful trip!
The W Home is dreamy and has raised the bar for vacation rentals. The amenities offered there, along with the simple, elegant island decor make for the perfect relaxing retreat. The location is great too...Just a short walk to the pool or beach and offers a lovely view of the lagoon. The W Home gives visitors a chance to live in one of the beach house you usually only see in magazines.
We had a wonderful time on North Captiva Island at W home. The house is amazing and simply the best place to go if you need some time to relax (like we did after spending some exhausting days at Disneyworld). We saw dolfins, turtles, loads of birds and even an alligator, it was incredible!
Our kids really enjoyed the pool, only a stone's throw away.
Melanie was a great host and so helpful, we were perfectly fed with all information we needed.
We can highly recommend to stay at this stunning place!
First of all, the island was the perfect place on earth to relax and watch wild life of all kind. The house is very cozy and you feel the private tough like home. The furniture are nice and modern. The house appears slightly bigger on the picture than it is. This was not a problem since we had every day sunshine. Over all, the house is in a good shape apart from the kitchen which need urgent maintenance.
We were a happy family staying at the W home. Beautiful accomadations and well equipped home.
The W home is located on the tropical island of North Captiva, a remote island in the Gulf of Mexico, only accessible by boat, ferry or private plane. Upon arriving on the island you will travel by golf cart, bicycle or foot, as there are no cars on the island. The W home can help you plan your transportation to and from the island.
