|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
The Pudding Pad is located close to New York City on the pristine Roaring Brook Lake and was designed as a retreat for couples who want to escape from the city and have fun. The house is situated on the lake and feels like its' nestled in the woods. It was built in 1969 and has a distinctive seventies feel with classically stylish mid century modern furniture pieces. In tone the house is more minimal than cluttered. It has a record player with a good selection of vinyl and a table tennis table for those who wish to unleash the competitive ping pong beast within. The house is close to Cold Spring and the Fahnestock State Park which has hiking trails, a beautiful beach, picnic areas, scenic campground, and abundant opportunities for boating, fishing, and birding. The house also comes with a canoe and kayak
From the moment we arrived at the Pudding Pad, we knew this place was special. It was quiet, beautiful and comfortable. The access to the lake and to the nearby hiking of the Appalachian Trail via Fahnestock State Park made it easy to enjoy nature while having the luxury of our own space. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a respite from the fast pace and frentic world around them. Additionally, the record collection is dynamite!
Really enjoyed staying here - beautiful location, very convenient
It's apparent immediately that this place was designed/created with love. The 70s vibe is beyond rad. The first night my husband and I just had drinks and explored the vinyl collection (which will not disappoint.) We didn't plug our phones in to play music once. In fact, we ended up ordering three of the albums we fell in love with.
If you're curious:
1. Music from the Cosmos, (I recommend this in the morning, while drinking the AMAZING coffee provided.)
2. 25 Years of Jazz, (We hate jazz...but not this bad boy. Perfect to end the night while relaxing in the well thought out, dim lighting)
3. The SalSoul Orchestra non-stop dance album. (Get ready to shake those shoulders and prance around in your bare feet.)
The bed was comfy, the canoe out on the lake was peaceful, and the fire pit was the perfect way to relax outdoors. This place is truly retro-tastic!
Suggestions: Bring layers, it can get chilly at night. Take advantage of the screening room even if you don't want to watch TV. (Try Fantasia via Netflix: the sound is great!) Arrive first, as the pantry has some staples stocked, then backtrack to DeCicco's Supermarket where the liquor store is right next door and 10 minutes away.
We (family of 3) had a very restful NYC getaway at the Pudding Pad. Very easy to get to (you'll need a car though), and overlooking a lake with great views from the house. We enjoyed kicking back at the Pad (listening to the great vinyl collection!), visiting a couple area attractions and then watching a movie at night on the large screen projector. Can't recommend enough for cityfolk to recharge the batteries. Owner is very easy to work with and the place itself is clean and well maintained with a nice funky aesthetic.
This house was quiet, cozy and perfect for our weekend away. It's an easy ride from the city and close to Beacon (which I love). Our weekend was chilly and snowy but we enjoyed cooking dinner while listening to the wonderful record collection. The owner was very helpful and maintains the property nicely. We will definitely consider renting here again.
We were lucky to spend 4 days and could have stayed longer! The house is so clean, beautifully designed and the owners take every extra effort in making you feel welcome. Everything is so easy and there is so much to do! We boated around the lake, swam, hiked the rolling brook trail (a must, but note it does take a good 4+ hours, pack water & snacks), visited DIA: Beacon. In the evenings we relaxed with good meals prepared in the fully equip kitchen, enjoyed the incredible record collection and watched a DVD or 2 from the wide range available in the screening room (an experience in itself!) The house is perfectly designed with the sleeping areas to the front with the living and entertainment areas overlooking the water. We were even spoilt with a cherry pink sunset the one night while enjoying a few drinks around the fire pit outside that overlooks the lake. Just perfect! Already looking at dates to return!
