About The Owner

I lived and owned in the neighborhood for over 7 years, I had a short commute to work and enjoyed all of the benefits of a large city but still had the charm of a small suburb.

The Owner purchased this house in 2007

Why The Owner chose Rosedale

When I left the area for a new job I didn't want to give up the city life. I enjoy coming back dining in the same restaurants and seeing the shows and museums in the area.

What makes this house unique

When I stay at the property it is my home away from home with all the amenities I enjoy. When I stay at other places I find myself comparing my place to where I am staying...I realize my house might not be your house but a comfortable bed, clean linens, an inviting neighborhood, kids that are happy is what I strive for, I enjoy coming back to the area and settling in for a moment in time to enjoy my family and relax.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to thank you sincerely for all your info and quick responses in the past month. The house was perfect for our stay. I can't believe we managed to get all 3 kids to sleep in the same room. There are so many things we loved about the house: the beds were so cozy, the hardwood floor was beautiful, towels were super soft, the updating of the house was done so tastefully (esp loved the kitchen backsplash), the movie selection was fun and extensive. The house was a perfect location for us. We went to a Children's Museum in Shawnee, went to the plaza several times, went to Crowne Center and Kaleidescope and Fritz's, and Rosedale BBQ was awesome! I wanted to offer some simple suggestions to improve a couple of things for future guests. It would be nice to have a small stool in the bathroom so the kids could reach the sink easier and more independently. The step to the front porch is a bit high for kids, older folks or people with mobility issues. It might be nice to add a small step.

Thank you again and Happy Holidays!!

Met our needs

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this house with a 2 adults and 3 children to see the area.

Of note, I was searching for Kansas City, MO on Homeaway, and, when I booked this house, the address is in Kansas. What?@!, how could I possibly mess that up!? Well, it turns out that Kansas City MO and Kansas City KS are right next to each other, and this house is very close to the MO border and the attractions we wanted to see, so it wasn't a problem. So why two distinct cities share the exact same name and are confusingly right next to each other, I have no idea.

OK, back to the house, it was a cozy (for 5 people anyways) updated older home, though 5X better than a hotel as you have 2 bedrooms, living/dining area, and well equipped kitchen. Also, it was interesting to try out Google Fiber, which offers both internet and TV. The Google TV menu is different, and probably makes simple sense to a computer programmer, but it's workable (I.E. my kids got it to work for them). There's a grocery store, PriceChopper, 5 minutes away. I could always park in front. The house is a few blocks off a more industrial area, it's not a posh community here. I would guess it's a blue collar neighborhood. I had no safety concerns whatsoever. I didn't hear the neighbors, loud booming music from cars, sirens...etc, it was relatively quiet.

Things we did:

Harry Truman Museum - Very good!!!

Nelson-Atkins Museum (very large art museum and sculpture garden)

Joes Kansas City BBQ (very popular bbq that's a gas station as well, big portions)

Money Museum - Federal Reserve Bank Kansas City (you can watch automated forklifts move pallets of money around and people operating large money machinery)

WW1 Memorial (next to Money Museum)

This house met our needs, I would call it a value booking, and would definitely book again if in the area.

Clean, cozy, close to the fun!

  • 5 of 5

While we were a little bit worried from looking at the house from the outside, the inside was clean and well maintained. The twin bunks were a little bit uncomfortable but the main room bed was super comfortable. This was our first VRBO experience and we were left with a good impression. So much easier and convenient than a hotel!

Pleasant and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

So much more comfortable than a hotel room -- it delivered as advertised. Nicely appointed and very clean -- renovated kitchen and bathroom that were better than functional! The boys enjoyed the bunk beds and the bed in the master was extremely comfortable. Just enough space to avoid being on top of everyone -- the kitchen was appointed well enough and there is a nice big TV in the den. The neighborhood was quiet, except for the first night -- we think the wonderfully nice first warm evening of the spring encouraged a few of the neighbors to enjoy it outside and were loud out back, but other than that we hardly saw anyone during our 4 night stay. Convenient location for the things we wanted to do and see.

Only two minor negatives: The inside of the coffee maker was too grungy to bother using it, but there is a charming brand new coffee shop at the corner of the street that is easily walkable and the owner is local to the neighborhood and very friendly. TV/VCR -- TV was tricky to figure out, but once we found Major League Baseball network, we didn't change the channel. ( Also, the VCR wouldn't accept a tape...so we just stuck with the baseball on TV )
