About The Owner

I lived and owned in the neighborhood for over 7 years, I had a short commute to work and enjoyed all of the benefits of a large city but still had the charm of a small suburb.

The Owner purchased this house in 2007

Why The Owner chose Kansas City

When I left the area for a new job I didn't want to give up the city life. I enjoy coming back dining in the same restaurants and seeing the shows and museums in the area.

What makes this house unique

When I stay at the property it is my home away from home with all the amenities I enjoy. When I stay at other places I find myself comparing my place to where I am staying...I realize my house might not be your house but a comfortable bed, clean linens, an inviting neighborhood, kids that are happy is what I strive for, I enjoy coming back to the area and settling in for a moment in time to enjoy my family and relax.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to thank you sincerely for all your info and quick responses in the past month. The house was perfect for our stay. I can't believe we managed to get all 3 kids to sleep in the same room. There are so many things we loved about the house: the beds were so cozy, the hardwood floor was beautiful, towels were super soft, the updating of the house was done so tastefully (esp loved the kitchen backsplash), the movie selection was fun and extensive. The house was a perfect location for us. We went to a Children's Museum in Shawnee, went to the plaza several times, went to Crowne Center and Kaleidescope and Fritz's, and Rosedale BBQ was awesome! I wanted to offer some simple suggestions to improve a couple of things for future guests. It would be nice to have a small stool in the bathroom so the kids could reach the sink easier and more independently. The step to the front porch is a bit high for kids, older folks or people with mobility issues. It might be nice to add a small step.

Thank you again and Happy Holidays!!

Wonderful home in Kansas City!

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful home to stay at in the Kansas City area. It's location is perfect if you are trying to get to the Westport, Crossroads or Power & Light Districts. The home itself is very spacious and provided all the amenities that we needed to enjoy our trip. Everything was very clean, and we would definitely rent this home again in the future!

Cute house, quiet neighborhood, close to everything.

  • 4 of 5

It was a great place to stay, it was perfect for our family. We enjoyed all of the local parks, restaurants, etc the neighborhood had to offer. Plenty of towels, blankets, pillows, etc. Owner was very responsive to messages and helpful. We would stay there again.

Property needs deep cleaning

  • 1 of 5

The location was convenient for the activities that we wanted to do while in KC and the directions provided were easy to follow. The kitchen really needs a deep cleaning. I scrubbed out the refrigerator when we arrived, but the dishwasher has a thick hardwater/lime deposit lining it. Even when we ran the dishwasher, the dishes came out covered in the same deposits. There wasn't any dishwashing liquid to wash the dishes by hand either. The shower drain was plugged, so we used the toilet plunger to unclog it. We stayed in KC when it was still a cold weather week and the furnace kept running and we didn't get comfortable the first day there. We realized the next day that several windows were open in the family/living room. Closing the windows helped, but the furnace and thermostat didn't seem to be communicating well. We would set the thermostat at 65 before going to bed, and then wake up sweating to 80 degrees in the apartment. I really am surprised that this property is listed with VRBO, but earlier reviews state that it was clean. I'm assuming that the owner has changed cleaning services recently.

Not clean

  • 2 of 5

We are veteran travelers with VRBO and this is our first unpleasant overall experience.

The positives: very convenient location to Union Station and downtown. Home has been restored with beautiful floors and cabinetry. There were plenty of dishes and the bed was squishy soft (not a positive for everyone's tastes). Pet friendly property.

The negatives: the yard has a fence but there are large gaps where our dogs could have easily crawled through. There was a great deal of trash in the back yard, including beer cans, broken pottery and a diaper. The house has had a surface cleaning but the freezer, drink dispenser, fridge and top of the microwave were filthy. There was a reddish jelly substance smeared on the bathroom door, cabinet, and bedroom door. The inside of the dishwasher was caked with lime. The TV remote did not work in the living room, which meant you had to manually adjust the volume, a frustration with loud commercials. There are no lamps or side tables in the living area; only a couch and recliner with an overhead ceiling fan. The overhead light in the bedroom is finicky and works at times.

The home was rented at a more-than-reasonable rate, but our biggest complaints were the uncleanliness and yard condition. The other comments are small details. Considering the additional cleaning fee, I would have expected to find an older, restored home in immaculate condition with a safe yard for my pets. Sadly, this was not the case and we will not choose this property again.

Owner's Response: This guest wanted an early check in, she asked the day of arrival and I received the message to late so I wasn't able to give her the early check in like she wanted. So, her response was a bad review. I just stayed at our house this past weekend, everything looked good. Any time a guest has a problem with the cleaning or maintenance issues we take care of the concerns immediately when notified. :)

Quaint home located in a quiet neighborhood, perfect for our needs.

  • 5 of 5

The home is located in an area which suited our plans. Rosedale BBQ and Dagwoods Diner are within walking and definately worth it. Nearby on SW 39th St, Upbeat coffee makes a delicious Horchata Latte. Many small shops, bars and restaurants along 39th which was perfect to kill time before our evening plans. We would stay here again when visiting Kansas City.
