About Michael White

This home is owned by Steve and Henrietta Holbrooks. We are native North Carolinians and have always held a deep love and appreciation for the Blue Ridge Mountains. We've hiked many of the area trails and never missed a chance to tour the Blue Ridge Parkway. We've had great times camping there with our children and other families, sharing adventures and making memories. Now, as 'empty nesters', we've taken up kayaking, traveling, and gaining an appreciation of the culture & history of the NC Mountains. We stayed in Knob View for the first time in August 2013 and fell in love with the home immediately. The long range views along with its serenity and tranquility were so unique. We also have friends who stayed with us who, after experiencing the area, purchased land and built a vacation home nearby (VRBO #865183).

Why Michael White chose Asheville Area

Asheville has always been one of our favorite destinations. The area offers something for everyone. There's a vibrant arts culture with artisans and performers that bring the downtown to life after dark. It has beautiful architecture, fabulous shops, restaurants, and a booming craft beer industry. For those who prefer smaller towns, Black Mountain and Weaverville are popular destinations nearby. There's the Biltmore House, Gardens, and Winery which are a must see. Those who enjoy watersports will find a canoe/kayak outfitter just 20 minutes away on the French Broad River. And of course, the natural beauty that surrounds you explains why The Blue Ridge Parkway has been the most visited 'park' in the US every year since 1949.

What makes this house unique

Knob View Retreat offers the perfect retreat following a day exploring the Asheville area. It's only 15 minutes from downtown but seems 'worlds away'. We enjoy the privacy and quiet, you can hear the birds chirping, the squirrels rustling through the leaves, and the wind blow. At dusk the sunsets over the mountain range are to die for. At night the crickets will sing you to sleep. And of course there are mountain views everywhere you look! Ahhhhh

Outstanding getaway

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from our extended weekend at this retreat/home - it was outstanding! The house fit our needs perfectly - the location in the mountains (perfect), location to Asheville (perfect), set up of the house for three couples (perfect), the hosts/owners communication prior to our arrival and during our stay (perfect), the hot tub (perfect)! We could not have been happier or asked for more with this property. Looking forward to another visit to the area and this home will be our first choice!! Thank you to the owners, you provided us with a wonderful place to create very fond memories.

Beautiful property - great hot tub

  • 5 of 5

We loved our visit to Asheville. This is a gorgeous home with nearly every amenity you could want. My only wish was they had extra towels, especially for the hot tub. We had to run the (small) washer every day if we were planning to use the hot tub and also shower. Everything was clean and well kept. The Keurig was a nice touch and the kitchen was stocked with every utensil and even basic spices etc you could need. We cooked in for many dinners and it was great. There are stairs but it's still kid friendly - our 11 month old did great and loved the hot tub. He used the high chair they provided and they even had a pack N play (we had our own but it was nice they had one). We'll definitely return and recommend this to our friends!

Beautiful house and great location

  • 5 of 5

Three full bedroom/bathroom suites is terrific for privacy. The multiple decks are great to view the incredible landscapes. Bring a good camera! The hot tub is a great touch as well. I can highly recommend the retreat.

GO!

  • 5 of 5

We met long time friends here for a weekend getaway...it was perfect! The house has everything you could need and is beautifully decorated.

We visited Biltmore, Black Mountain and Montreal, enjoyed the hot tub, wakes down the mountain road, and played some competitive ping pong!

Banjo, the local dog visited a couple of times and we just enjoyed the serenity and beauty of God's fabulous creation!

Michael was easy to work with, quick to reply and obviously has impeccable taste!

Thanks for a fantastic weekend!!

Great trip

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time and it was a wonderful place. The views are amazing from the deck and its close enough to downtown Asheville (~15-20 minutes) to go back and forth. We had three couples who enjoyed comfortable accommodations at the cabin. Each bedroom was spacious and has its own bathroom. They had many of the accessories already there (tin foil, toilet paper, k-cups...) that you might forget to bring.
