About Tripp Bassett

Motivated by his love of the Catskill region’s natural beauty and his commitment to promoting sustainability as a way of life, Tripp Bassett passionately devoted 3 years to restoring the historic barn into an idyllic country sanctuary. An avid devotee of architecture and interior design, he used his professional eye for detail and aesthetics as well as the skills and talents of his renowned team of collaborators to bring to life his vision of Barn on the Pond. A native of Roswell, New Mexico, he spent his childhood exploring his mother’s garden, a place where his appreciation for the wonders of the outdoors was born and nurtured. Over the years, this matured and developed into an environmental awareness that led him to follow the ecological concept of Seven Generation Sustainability, which urges the current generation to live in a way that benefits the seventh generation into the future – something he was conscious of in all aspects of designing the Barn and its property. It is also through this movement and way of living that he developed his strong sense of community and collaboration.

Tripp Bassett purchased this estate in 2007

Why Tripp Bassett chose Hudson Valley

WINTER AT BARN ON THE POND

Winter is a special time at Barn on the Pond, with snow blanketing the mountains just outside and a lodge-like feel inside thanks to soaring wood-beamed ceilings and heated floors throughout.

Bask in the cozy glow of three fire features: a double-sided fireplace inside, and, outside, a second fireplace plus a massive sunken fire pit with space for everyone (who says s'mores are only for summer?).

Three Apple TVs with premium cable and DVD and a collection of board games and cards make snowy days special. And gathering for dinner is a given at Barn on the Pond. From a simple pot of beef stew after a day on the slopes (there are 4 ski areas within a 40-minute drive!) to elaborate holiday feasts, our gourmet kitchen can handle it all. We have double ovens, two sinks, two dishwashers, and even two refrigerators. Set the adjacent table for 10 and dig into a memorable meal.

If you'd rather not cook, hire a private chef to come right to the rental. Or head out to try the many dining options at the walkable villages of Woodstock or Saugerties, both just a 10-minute drive away. Call an Uber—recently added in our area—and make a night of it.

Celebrate the holidays at Barn on the Pond! Rates are as follows:

CHRISTMAS/HOLIDAY: $7175 for up to 5 nights, including tax + cleaning fee. Check-out required by 11AM on Friday, December 29th.

NEW YEAR’S: $5800 for up to 4 nights, including tax + cleaning fee.

Nothing short of spectacular!! The home away from home you don't want to leave!!

  • 5 of 5

Tripp was beyond helpful in the planning stages of our weekend away. The "barn" is something out of a magazine! It's a hybrid between luxury and comfort. The homeowners have forgotten nothing! A tooth brush and some clothing and you are set!

The home is located only minutes away from picturesque Woodstock, but we loved the home so much we only ventured out for a few hours - excited to get back to the coziness and beauty the barn offers!

By the end of our girls weekend- we were talking about renting it again in the summer time!

Owner's Response: Elated to hear your girls weekend went so well and your planning paid off, Tracey. As much as we try to promote our groovy little neighborhoods, many of our guests say they never want to leave the barn once they have nested. Fingers crossed for your lovely group's return and thank you!!

Amazing Hidden Gem in the Catskills

  • 5 of 5

Barn on The Pond is the perfect weekend escape, vacation destination for relaxation, and beautiful venue for a variety of events.

We were lucky enough to stay for a beautiful week in October at the peak of the leaves changing in beautiful weather. The minute we stepped into the home, we were immediately in vacation mode-- it's hard not to be with its serene property, beautiful high open ceilings and a welcoming decor. The kitchen was made for entertaining, whether that's hosting a holiday for family, pepping for an event, or simply cooking dinner for 2 or 12. The bedrooms are all warm and inviting and to sit by the fire-- either inside in the living room listening to records or outside upstairs, cozied up looking out into the mountains with a drink-- is heaven.

There's a beautiful fire pit that we sat with friends around with a beer to catch up and roast some s'mores and the airbed (basically an XL hammock) is the ideal way to lose track of time staring at the sky.

To look out of our windows or sit on the upper back porch with coffee looking out at the pond and the background of trees and mountains was perfect.

Every amenity was thoughtfully in place. Tripp and his team have thought of everything and go out of their way to make sure your trip is comfortable, enjoyable and memorable.

We were a group of 11 + a our dog and had the best time, even hosting our annual pumpkin beer tasting. There's no lesser accommodations though, even the airstream (about 100 feet from the house) was roomy, funky and fun to stay in.

This is a wonderful hidden gem and we look forward to coming back in the future.

Idyllic paradise

  • 5 of 5

I stayed for a week at the fabulous Barn on the Pond with a bunch of friends, and loved every minute.

Tripp the owner is great; he's extremely accommodating and goes beyond the call of duty. The place was clean, beautifully designed, luxurious, grand, bohemian and posh.

The Barn on the Pond is a short drive into Woodstock where you can find some good stores, restaurants, friendly people and a river with beautiful water holes to swim in.

The Barn and the grounds are huge with different nooks and crannies to hang out in - one night roasting marshmallows on the bonfire in the garden, the next night posh pizza and wine on the upstairs balcony with an open fire burning in the hearth, home cooked meals with friends round the long dining table, an afternoon chatting peacefully on the giant dream catcher swing looking up at the Dr. Seuss trees, then dangling feet into the cool water of the pond watching frogs, listening to the sound of birds singing and crickets buzzing. So beautiful.

Staying here is everything summer should be; It's an idyllic paradise.

It's the kind of place that nurtures life long memories. I will always recommend this wonderful place to friends and family, and I look forward to staying here next summer.

Fabulous Country Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had the barn for a long weekend with friends - it has a stunning view of Overlook mountain and easy drive to hikes and waterfalls nearby. The barn had all modern amenities, a great open kitchen plus wireless music speakers that can ported to every room. The upper decks and fire pit are great places to hangout at night for stargazing and there is a fun airstream too. It was a great place to be near nature and yet have the luxuries of comfort within reach...

Ideal Destination for Intimate Gatherings

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to organize a trip for 16 adults and 10 children, and was hard-pressed to find a house that accommodate such a large group, in an intimate setting. While the barn does not in fact hold that many, it was wonderful to find out that there are neighboring properties which can be rented in combination with The Barn. So we were able to rent The Barn, in addition to the house next door (beautiful in its own right), and create the intimate weekend I had imagined, with a larger group. It worked like a charm!

On top of this, I was also looking to have catered meals prepared onsite, and The Barn came through with flying colors in this category as well. Jodi Cummings is the house's resident private chef who, you can hire as an option to cook fabulous meals. Being tied to a local, high-quality livestock farm, Jodi was able to source very high-quality meats for our meals, at a very reasonable price. Her cooking was perfect for the setting: wholesome, fresh ingredients, restaurant quality, and then some. Jodi impressed me as the kind of chef who could cater to almost any taste. And with her assistant present for our dinners, cleanup was taken care of.

The barn itself was as beautiful, and more so, than the photos suggest. The owners clearly have excellent taste, and put a lot of energy into a decor that is perfect for the upstate setting. If design is important to you, The Barn will not disappoint.

Our group also took advantage of the airstream on the property, and it was surprisingly comfortable, even in the cold weather. Friends of ours stayed in the camper with their 3 year-old son, and were really happy with their experience.

Our group took full advantage of the sweeping front lawn, the fire pit, the *huge* circular hammock, and we really just had a perfect weekend.

I've rented *many* places upstate, and The Barn is now at the top of my list.

Enjoy!

Our recent partnerships with vendors and vacation renters in the area have been a recent focus in an attempt to bring groups such as yours the fullest experience possible for your gatherings at Barn not the Pond. Glad to know our efforts paid off for your weekend and we look forward to your return!
