Loon Sound Cottage is located on beautiful Toddy Pond in Surry, Maine. The cottage is centrally located between Bar Harbor/Acadia, Blue Hill Peninsula, Belfast, Bucksport, and Bangor. Why Rob and Maureen Giffin. chose Downeast and Acadia

This sweet cottage offers separate access to the pond and a feeling of privacy. The cottage is well out of the way of the hustle and bustle of Maine in the summer, but just a short drive to these areas- the best of both worlds!

What makes this cottage unique

The sound of the loons and the local wildlife keep our guests returning year after year.

Cute, cozy, comfortable cabin

  • 4 of 5

Loon Cottage was a pretty, pleasant and peaceful property. It was clean and met all of our needs. We loved the location and beauty around us. The Fall was spectacular. We enjoyed the drive into the woods and quiet walks we had around the property on the dirt road. We had a good five days. It was just like the description we had read previously. The only negative we found was that the bedroom was smaller than we expected. Otherwise we would certainly recommend it for a couple's getaway, especially if you love Nature the way we do.

Just as advertised. The cottage lacked for nothing and the surroundings were idyllic. Hope to be able to come back next year.

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

We loved Loon Cottage. Very quiet, and just steps away from a private dock on Toddy Pond. The cabin was extremely clean and well equipped, and there were a variety of boats available for use. Would definitely stay again.

Perfect Spot for Peace and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

From our first to our last contact, the owners of Loon Sound Cottage responded quickly to our questions and needs. The charming cottage was fully equipped and clean as a whistle! Situated on tranquil Toddy Pond, we enjoyed the fresh air, the sunsets, the water (we learned to KAYAK!!!), but mostly the peaceful setting. A special treat were the unique sounds of the loons in the evenings. Maureen and Rob were available to help and offered suggestions on restaurants and sights to see. We were a short drive from quaint harbor towns and superb seafood. Would highly recommend to those wishing to see the sights of Acadia and surrounding areas. It was nice to leave the crowds at the end of the day and retreat to our "cottage on the pond".

Thank you, Maureen and Rob, for a delightful stay! We hope to see you again some day.

A Truly Peaceful Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough about this idyllic place. The cottage is well-maintained, picturesque, comfortable, and quiet. We felt relaxed and at home from the moment we walked in. At night the only sounds are the wind through the trees, and the loons. The air is fresh with the smell of pine. The lovely pond is down a short path, and the sun sets over it, visible directly from the back porch. The outside is decorated with floral window boxes and potted plants, and there is a gas grill. If peace and quiet is what you're looking for, this is the place. The owners, Rob and Maureen are very nice people who are willing to help you with any problem. We didn't want to go home. Only a half hour from Acadia, and close to many scenic ports. A heavenly vacation!

The most idyllic of vacation spots!

  • 5 of 5

There aren’t enough superlatives to describe how fabulous our many stays have been at Loon Sound Cottage! There isn’t a more beautiful, peaceful spot on the Pond, from the cozy, inviting interior that exudes Maine cottage charm to its location only steps away from our own private beach on the water’s edge. Beautifully appointed and immaculately maintained, the cottage is everything we expected it to be--and more. One could easily while away many hours at the cottage, swimming or paddling on the pond (kayaks and canoes were provided for our enjoyment) or sitting by a cozy fire pit on the shore, sipping a glass of wine while watching one of many spectacular sunsets. We enjoyed exploring nearby Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National Park, forays throughout Penobscot peninsula and Deer Isle, and hikes up Blue Hill Mountain. And one couldn’t ask for more friendly, congenial hosts, always welcoming and helpful when we had questions about area amenities. If we still lived in California (we fell in love with Maine so much while staying at this lovely spot that we moved to Brooklin a year ago!) we’d would always include Loon Sound Cottage on Toddy Pond in our vacation itinerary!
