We spent a week here in late June. We had 4 adults and 3 kids age 17, 15, and 5. We had a wonderful time. The house met our needs beautifully. We had good fishing, good hiking/exploring and it's an easy trip into Hayward. We brought yard games such as bags & badminton and had fires most nights. The fish cleaning station in the garage was great. The fishing was a highlight. We rented a canoe & brought kayaks & a fishing boat to complete our fun.
The owners were easy to contact & the neighbors were helpful. A huge storm blew in 5 minutes after half our party arrived. The other half arrived during the storm. There were downed trees (this is where the neighbors came in) across the road that had to be sawed/moved before we could all get TO the cabin. We were without power off & on for a couple days (along with a lot of the area). We still had a great time. We were able to get a generator from the owners so we could run the fridge & charge our phones.
The house was large enough to suit all our needs & give us together time or time apart as needed. We cooked, BBQ'd and ate out. The screen porch was a huge asset & there were great lake breezes. We would suggest bringing measuring spoons & measuring cups if you plan to do any scratch cooking. Almost everything else was there.
We thoroughly enjoyed the loons, ospreys, bald eagles, herons & otters. We even saw a bear in the neighborhood!
Our only complaint with the cabin would be that the listing hasn't been updated recently. There is no longer a sandy beach area as shown in the pictures. That area is now over grown & the area right along the dock is not a spot we were comfortable using for swimming due to the bottom, grasses & water lilys. The dock/boardwalk access needs to be raised so that shallow wading is not required to reach the shore. We bought rubber boots & it was no longer an issue of wet feet. We're sure some of it was from the rain but it also appears the lake level has risen and the board walk has settled since the listing was made.
We'd be at 5 Stars except for the discrepancy between the listed beach & the reality of it.
Our family had a great time, and the place was nicer than the pictures show. Plenty of space, quiet peaceful surroundings, and well equipped for our needs.
Our family of 5 had an incredible weeklong getaway at the cabin. The fishing on the lake was very good and we enjoyed a number of fish fry's. Kids loved playing in the paddleboat, catching frogs and turtles and fishing from the dock when we werent in the boat tubing or swimming. The large play areas in the yard was great for the kids football games, whiffle ball and badminton.
We loved the cabin, decks, hot tub, furnishings, space etc, and hope to return again next year.
I just visited Big Sissabagama Retreat on Labor Day weekend and we enjoyed it very much. As another reviewer mentioned, the property is even better than the pictures. It was beautifully decorated and very clean. We enjoyed the hot tub, the big screen tv and of course the screened porch. We also enjoyed the chipmunk that lives under the steps leading down to the dock and if you're lucky, you may get a visit from the neighborhood lab. He came to the door wagging hit tail and waiting to be invited in. We enjoyed walks in the woods, the local Red Schoolhouse Winery, taking the fishing boat on the lake, and exploring the local shops. Thanks so much for letting us stay at your lovely property.
This property was to die for. There was so much room for our entire party (there was 8 of us) with room to spare. The furnishings were top notch as was the amenities that Paul and Lisa provided.
I spent a lot of time in the screened in porch. It was nice and quiet in there. Every kitchen utensil you could imagine was there. The only thing we needed to bring with us was our personal toiletries and food.
The pictures that are shown do not do it enough justice. It was just so beautiful. It is on a nice, quiet dead-end road.
Lisa was available whenever we had a question. We even at at their restaurant in Birchwood. They had excellent pizza and staff.
My family would highly recommend this property to anyone looking at staying on a Musky lake near Hayward, WI. While we were there, we were not able to raise any large northern or musky, but we did come away with a bunch of largemouth bass. If you have kids, they can even fish off of the dock. There was a bunch of little fish around there!
Thank you Paul and Lisa!
This place is amazing Paul and Lisa do a great job to make sure that your stay goes great. This home is very very clean we stayed 10 days and still was not ready to come home. The fishing was great and the beds in the home were so comfortable. So many things to do the view each day takes your breath away you never get tired of it the chipmunks playing in the yard and all the wildlife. This is the best vacation home we have ever stayed in and hope to return next year. I would recommend this home to anyone looking you wont be dissappointed
This property is directly on the lake. You can fish or hop on your boat and head over to the beautiful sand bar located on the lake. Get hungry while on the lake, stop over to the beautiful Pine Ridge restaurant right on the lake. The property has access to hiking/cross country trails very close, including the snowshoe trail. Snowmobile to the trail directly from the front yard. Trails are groomed and beautiful. Four wheeling trails are very close also. Outdoor fire pit for evening fires, please bring your own wood. Cross country ski and snow shoe right out the front door!
