Born and raised in Málaga but living in New York since 1992 where I work as a web developer and designer and IT consultant.
Manuel Rueda Romero purchased this villa in 2013
This beautiful land and house has been in my family for many generations and I am honored to have it now. My grandparents lived in Alhaurin and had lands in other locations but this was their favorite so they built the house and moved there when they retired, and so did my father, who stayed there until his illness forced him to move back to the city. I spent there most of the weekends and summers in my childhood and planted with my brother the trees (mostly oranges) that now provides delicious fruits almost all year round. The house has had several renovations and I just recently finished updates to modernize kitchen appliances, restored windows and doors, installed high speed Internet, A/C, upgraded the electrical and plumbing, etc.
The house is in a privileged location, you will enjoy total peace surrounded by nature but just minutes away from the beaches, golf courses and all the amazing offerings of Costa del Sol, theaters, museums, historical sites, shopping centers, clubs, restaurants, etc... The area has a large international community and is famous worldwide for the hospitality and positive attitude of its people.
We arrived at Vega Fahala and were greeted by Isabel, who was wonderful and very friendly. The villa itself is beautiful, a fantastic example of traditional Andalusian rustic charm with many mod cons thrown in.
The lounge and dining area upstairs is comfortable and beautifully decorated with some contemporary and traditional ornaments, open fireplace and TV with Google Chromecast (which was a godsend for the children as we were able to throw some movies on there in an evening).
The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans and crockery of every shape and size, along with a well-provided for selection of spices and some basic supplies on hand for you to make your first meal if you need to.
The bedrooms were comfortable and of a good size, with lovely views of the villa grounds and countryside. The master benefited from a mosquito net, which was invaluable for us (we weren't unduly bothered by mosquitos but they were certainly in evidence - it would be worth visiting the shops in town to purchase for the other rooms if you visit).
Downstairs the second lounge/pool area was spacious and clean, with another TV for you to use and a DVD player if you have brought them with you - we hadn't but moved the Chromecast downstairs to allow us to throw music from Spotify onto the TV.
The pool and patio areas were very spacious and allowed for our entire group (three adults, a teenager and a 5 year old) to find space in the sun or shade without compromising our space, and the pool itself is large and well placed for sun from mid-morning right through the day.
The bathroom was clean and comfortable, although you may find yourselves queuing in a morning as there is only one bathroom for the house. Toiletries and basic provisions were provided to get us going for the first evening.
It is a short drive into Alhaurin where you can find the usual Mercadino for provisions, along with some shops and many places to eat. During the day we would highly recommend Heladeria El Mori for their ice creams and light snacks (to die for!) and you can take your pic of other eateries in an evening, there are so many high quality restaurants to choose from.
Mini bus taxi from the villa into Alhaurin was around 20eu each way, or if you aren't drinking a 10 minute drive.
It's worth spending some time searching the villa's many nooks and crannies, as Manuel has provided many essentials for you - including a collection of sun creams, reading books, board games etc
We have been holidaying in Spain many times in the last 15 years, we have stayed in a lot of villas, this one in Alhaurin el Grande we think was the best. A lot of consideration has gone into thinking about guests, so everything you need is already there, from small items to important items. The villa itself is charming, very rural - which if you want peace then it's ideal. The pool is great with the layout of the villa lending itself to leisure and comfort. The towns nearby have all the shops you need and a god base for visiting Malaga,Marbella, Ronda and even seville. All in all we had a great stay at this villa and would recommend it highly.
We were thrilled to have spent 10 nights at the truly beautiful Vega Fahala. The house is charmingly rustic, with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and orange groves. The interior was spotless and decorated beautifully with well chosen and well appointed items of Spanish heritage.
We loved the sweet juicy oranges, picked straight from the tree and we cooked in the (very well stocked) kitchen on numerous occasions. It is so pleasant to have a stock of herbs, spices, oils, vinegar, coffee provided (I can go on)....
We were met by Raphael en route and followed him down to the house for a full tour and were always comfortable that should we need any help at any point, he or Isabel would be available to help us out.
We stayed here most of the time - poolside by day and visiting Al Haurin's restaurants and bars in the evenings (lovely reliable taxi services). It was a much needed and well enjoyed relaxing break for all of us.
Look no further! This is your truly perfect place for your next vacation in Spain!
Located conveniently 30mins from the airport in Malaga - you do need a car - in the picturesque hills of Alhaurin del Grande, it was close to the shore/beaches, cute towns, views, and perfectly situated for daily trips to Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba and even Gibraltar if you stay longer, we ran out of time. It is settled on the beautiful property and surrounded by the orange grove, where my daughters picked oranges every day for fresh squeezed orange juice - heaven!
We stayed in the villa for a week, and alternated days for daily trips and easy days spent by the pool - it was delightful! If we had any questions, our hosts were helpful and ready at a phone call. The house is FULLY equipped with everything: full kitchen, laundry room, baths...the rooms are cozy and perfect size, the house is airy and has a/c, although I personally didnt' need any - nights get to a comfortable temp of 75F. The house is clean and very well maintained.
We are def planning to go back! we love Vega Fahala!
Thank you Manuel and Isabel for a truly wonderful vacation and a wonderful place to stay!
A lovely spacious property located within an orange grove. We lazed by the pool, enjoyed the ample shade when it got too hot, picked oranges for breakfast and generally relaxed. Aside from cooking our own meals in the fully equipped kitchen/ barbecue area, we drove to the nearby town and had some great evenings out. An end to the day was to enjoy a drink on the upper terrace and watch the bats fly. Would highly recommend but would suggest a hire car.
Our family of four (2 adults, 2 teenagers) had a fantastic holiday at 'Vega Fahala'. We were met in Alhaurin el Grande and were guided to the house, where we were given a comprehensive tour of the property . The villa surpassed our expectations. The house, pool, and seating areas were all immaculately clean, and we had access to plenty of bed linen and towels. The villa is traditional in style, but has all the mod cons to make you feel truly 'at home' - washing machine, freezer, internet, TV etc. We spent most of our time outside enjoying the pool, relaxing in the various seating areas, admiring the sunsets over the peaks, having evening BBQs and watching the birds, lizards, geckos and bats!! We bought our supplies from the 'Mercadona' supermarket in Alhaurin el Grande, which had a very good range of food.
The weather was incredibly warm, so we didn't do a great deal of 'sightseeing', but one outing we really enjoyed was going into Malaga by the C2 Commuter train from Estacion de Cartama. This took us right into the old quarter, where we visited the 14th century Atarazanas market, the Alcazaba (a stunning Moorish fortress), and the Castillo de Gibralfaro. There is a lot more to explore there, including the Picasso Museum and the cathedral. Shopping there was really good, too! Another day, we drove to Marbella, which was an 'easy' drive as it was on a main road, and we thoroughly enjoyed the scenery on the way. The 'white village' of Mijas is also nearby, but the road is a little more 'exciting', with plenty of bends, but the fabulous views are worth the journey!
At the end of our stay, we were all genuinely sad to be leaving. Thank you to Manuel and his family for ensuring that our stay was a wonderful experience - we highly recommend this villa!
