Attractive Contemporary w/Bay View - 1 WEEK SALE for WEEK July 22!

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,400 sq. ft.
Property type house

About the property

3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)

Located on desirable Indian Neck just south of the center of town, this property is ideal for a family vacation. Directly across from the water and a quick walk to secluded Burton Baker Beach, it enjoys both lovely views of the outer harbor and Great Island, as well as the privacy of being set back on a half acre lot that abuts pine woods.

An open contemporary beach house, it has common living/dining and kitchen space on the upper floor and three bedrooms and a laundry room on the lower level. The house is attractively yet casually decorated with original artwork (much of it by well-known regional painters) and comfortable furnishings. Two walls of large windows in the main space give it the open-air feeling of being connected to the outdoors while inside.

Further Details: Also 1 DVR for Recording. A small selection of ~ 25 movie DVDs; guests can also borrow movie DVDs from our local Wellfleet Library; or just access Netflix on the Smart TV. A selection of ~50 music CDs; guests may also borrow music CDs from our local Wellfleet Library. The 3rd parking spot is separately located off the driveway and large enough to accommodate an RV/Boat/Trailer of reasonable size. Wood Stove: Glass front for fireplace ambiance.

A small den/library just off the living space is separated by a half wall, where you can work on your computer or read a book on the built-in window seat while others are gathered in the living area or at the kitchen island or dining table - perfect for family members or friends to pursue separate activities but still enjoy each other's company. Sliding glass doors add to the indoor-outdoor feel, opening out onto a deck that runs the full length of the house on the water side.

A small flower and fresh herb garden lines the front walkway, and an enclosed outdoor shower is perfect for rinsing off after a visit to the beach. Three unobstructed parking spots mean there is plenty of room for multiple vehicles to come and go without having to juggle cars.

Wake up to the soft sounds of resident songbirds, grab your coffee and enjoy the view, then meander down to the beach in your flip-flops and take a swim. In the evening, have dinner on the deck while the sun sets over the water and watch all those stars come out. Enjoy water views, nature and birdwatching right from the comfort of your own deck.

Should you decide you want to venture beyond the property and the bay beach, Indian Neck is conveniently located to enjoy all that Wellfleet and the outer cape have to offer.

A quick drive takes you to Wellfleet town center for shopping and dining and art galleries or a visit to the library, or over to the ocean beaches and freshwater ponds where the water is crystal clear and sandy bottomed - perfect for an afternoon swim. The Wellfleet Cinema and drive-in theatre is just 4 miles away. Nearby, Wellfleet Bay Audobon Sanctuary offers a beautiful bird sanctuary with many programs and events for children and parents as well. Provincetown is just 15 miles away and a great place to shop or go to dinner or go on a whale watch or dune tour. Both Wellfleet and Truro have golf courses, and there are numerous places to walk and hike within an easy drive. Wellfleet is also world renown for its regional theater at WHAT. And we also have one of the state's last remaining drive-in movie theaters, as well as a 3 screen indoor cinema.

Please feel free to email or call us with any questions. This is a very special spot we know you'll love.

About Owner

I bought this house in 1993 after renting in the neighborhood for about five years. It is my dream spot and I fell in love with it at first sight. The house then was a small contemporary cottage, with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath and limited windows out to the view. A year after moving in we started renovating to add a third bedroom and a 2nd bath and quite a few square feet. We also added lots of windows on the south and west side to bring in the light and the views of the water and woods. What a difference! The "new" house was now a place we could comfortably share with extended family any time of year and it became a special spot for making lots of memories with loved ones and friends. Now my spouse and I try to get down here from Boston as much as possible and dream of being able to "retire" here someday. In the meantime we've had such wonderful times here over the years, and we've watched his kids grow up being so enriched by the nature here.

Why Owner chose Indian Neck Heights

I fell in love with Wellfleet, and Indian Neck in particular, on my very first visit in the middle of winter in the late 1980's. I'd never seen anything as pretty as this place - and within 2 hours of Boston! Before my first day there was over, I'd made arrangements to rent a house on the beach for a week the coming summer. And after that I was hooked. I rented in the same spot every summer until I bought my own house here. Not only was the bay beach wonderfully swimmable, but I loved the scenery on this part of Cape Cod, including all that land set aside in the national seashore that would never be developed. There's nothing like the beautiful dunes and miles of unspoiled beach on the ocean here or the wonderful freshwater ponds that dot the woods of the national seashore park. Where else can you swim in the warm waters of the bay, then take a walk on miles of dramatic ocean beach and then swim in the crystal clear waters of a glacial spring-fed pond in the woods - all in one day and within a couple of miles of each other?! I also enjoyed the culture of the area - a focus on the arts (galleries, live theatre, a marvelous library, book readings and music performances) as well as a reverence for nature and the environment. And this part of the Cape is much less developed and congested than the upper Cape gets in the summer. I looked for my own property to buy for about a year before I saw this house and when I did, I knew immediately that it was the one - both for its location as well as for the house itself. Nothing beats the beach on Indian Neck for saltwater swimming - warm and clean and calm and never too crowded. And the view from Indian Neck is so picturesque, out over the outer harbor to Great Island with the fishing boats coming and going. And it is all so convenient to Wellfleet Center but never feels crowded.

What makes this house unique

I think this house location is unique for being both so close to the water and beach (and really 3 different beaches right here on Indian Neck to choose from), while offering the privacy of being tucked in next to the woods. You get the lovely breeze of the water nearby, but the privacy and comfort of being cozily surrounded by nice trees and lots of birds. The house is close enough to the beach to be able to run back to the house for something easily - no need to pack up for the whole day to go to the beach. And even when you're inside the house, the big windows on 2 sides make you feel a bit like you're outside and close to nature. And did I mention the glorious stars out here? We love to sit out on the deck in the evening on a clear night and see how many shooting stars we can count in 15 minutes. Perfection.

Children always love this house, but please note, it has not been explicitly 'kid-proofed.' If you have toddlers, you'll definitely need to keep an eye on them around the open stairwell inside and the deck stairs outside (my own niece has become an expert at setting up appropriate barricades when she's here with her two toddlers). The primary adult occupant must be 25 years of age or older. No smoking please inside the house. Smokers can be accommodated on the deck. Pets considered by special arrangement with owner on case by case basis. Excellent Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience here. The house is beautiful and only a few steps to the nearest beach, which is small, lovely and perfect for swimming since it is on the bay side. The lot is very private and you can see the ocean from the deck. The house has every amenity, down to the outdoor lobster pot and a fabulous outdoor shower. The owner could not have been nicer or more helpful. We would definitely stay here again!

good views very quiet

  • 5 of 5

The house is well maintained and very clean. Everything worked well, the house was well appointed and was very comfortable. One of the best features is the house is surrounded by trees so you don't get the feeling of being crowded by other houses and you do not hear or notice the neighbors. Although we did not have any special requests, the owner was very helpful with our questions and very gracious. We would definitely stay here again.
