About Carol Fortin

This property was purchased by my parents in 1958 and now has been in my family for over 50 years. We enjoyed summers growing up and now enjoy it as a great getaway. My parents would pack up 6 kids in the station wagon as soon as school ended and didn't return home until labor day weekend. Remember when school started after Labor Day?

Cherished memories were made here and we'd like to help our guests create their own great memories

Why Carol Fortin chose Eastern Connecticut

Ashford is a quiet peaceful area in Northeastern CT. Close to many attractions but you'll feel a million miles away when relaxing at the lake.

Great place

Very nice house and great owner. Carol takes great care of her home and makes every effort to make her guests feel welcome. We had a great time hanging out at the house and eating and shopping in nearby Sturbridge, MA. Thanks!

Owner's Response: Great time hanging out - so nice to hear. There's a lot to do at nearby attractions or do nothing at all relaxing by the water. The quiet welcoming atmosphere of the lake is a nice break from daily stress.

Our goal each year is to try a house on a lake in a different state. This place has changed a family tradition and we will be returning!!!..hopefully again and again! Perfectly relaxing, at times it was like we had the entire lake to ourselves. The house is cozy, had more than expected, cupboards so well stocked, and Carol is wonderful and more than accommodating! We couldnt have asked for a better week. Kids loved the boats, fishing, floating, swimming, and their own space on the top floor was awesome!! Wicked comfy king size bed too! Slept like a baby. Thanks so much, and see you next year!!

Stay Away! .... Just kidding

  • 5 of 5

I want to tell you that this rental was horrible so you, who are reading this, do not book any dates next year. This rental is a Gem. A beautiful Lake, dock, boats, Canoe, firepit, beach, huge awning (we didnt have rain until departure day) and Fish (Large Mouth Bass, Catfish, Perch & Bluegill were caught). My 3 yo daughter probably caught 15 fish herself and almost landed a huge trout but it snapped her line. Its got TV and cable for you homebodies and the beds were very comfortable. My only negative is the shower room (separate from the bathroom) as its unfinished... we didnt care though. Cant wait to book my next trip to this uber quaint lake house!

Owner's Response: Creative vacation strategy, keep others away so you can stay…..That’s how popular our little cottage has become and the fishing seems to get better every year! We love our TV’s so there’s one in just about every room. As we continue to improve this older cottage, the shower room walls do still need some finishing but it’s completely functional, has a sink and towels are included. For real time views of the interior, in addition to the many photos, we have included a video tour as part of the listing.

Great cottage and owner!

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our time at this cottage. When we arrived, the owner was there to show us around the cottage and answer any questions we had. The cottage had everything we needed (which was nice since we flew and didnt drive) - towels, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc.

There is a rowboat that you can use, which was great! We rowed to the island in the middle of the lake and had a picnic. The owner provided firewood, plenty of outdoor chairs, and the dock is nice for laying out.

If we lived closer, we would come back again all the time. And you cant beat the price!

Owner's Response: So nice to hear of another enjoyable stay. We keep the cottage well stocked for our guests so it's one less thing to worry about when traveling. A picnic on the island is a great idea and there's a rope swing and swimming area as well.

Wonderful relaxing experience

  • 5 of 5

My family and I experienced a wonderful relaxing experience at the cottage in Ashford CT. The Owner was there to meet and greet us upon arrival. We traveled to CT from the Bahamas to attend my daughter's graduation. The evenings by the lake near the warm fire was truly enjoyable....

we had a really great time.

Owner's Response: Another successful family graduation. This area is great central spot for events like this as it's so close to many colleges, especially UConn. I have to agree, evenings by the fire are truly enjoyable.

Cozy lakefront cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this cottage for a long weekend so we could get away from work and just relax. Everything about this cottage is relaxing--waking up to see the sun rise over the trees and the water, watching the lake birds floating nearby or wandering the shoreline, the quiet neighborhood, the cozy furniture and decor. We also loved that this cottage was already stocked with those small necessities which can fill up a car and take up oodles of time when you're trying to pack the big stuff--laundry detergent, aluminum foil, cooking oils and non-stick spray, salt and pepper. (This may have just been some of the flotsam and jetsam from the summer renters, but it was nice that the cottage owners kept those items there instead of automatically throwing it away.) The mattress in the king bed is firm. We highly recommend this cottage if you're looking for some quiet, rustic time away from your everyday life. I actually thought it would be a great place for an artist or writer since the upstairs could be used as a studio for quiet working conditions. They also allow "well-behaved" pets on the premises. Such a rarity nowadays, but so wonderful! Thank you!
