Spectacular Stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 9 nights at Casa Eko Mar and couldn't have been happier. Honestly, the photos do not do this place justice. The kitchen is very nice, big and well equipped. Washer and Dryer worked great. There is even a clothes line that is very handy. We used it daily to hang up our wet pool towels and bathing suits and again when we did laundry. The patio is wonderful with a comfortable sitting area, eating table, grill, view and privacy. It is positioned perfectly in order to get a good cross breeze. If we weren't at the pool, we were on the patio. The pool is absolutely beautiful. It is very will maintained and some "floaties" are provided. The view from the pool is phenomenal. During the day you will be looking out over the jungle, river and to the ocean view. At sunset the view from the pool can not be beat.

Yves is a wonderful host. He is very knowledgable, responsive, friendly and welcoming. Upon our arrival he gave us a quick rundown of the house and then left us to enjoy ourselves. He lives right next door, but has positioned his house and the guest house in a way that you have complete and total privacy. Honestly, you will not even know he is there. His dogs, Bo and Filu, are incredibly sweet and made daily visits. They are very friendly, not at all obnoxious. We aren't "dog people" but by the end of our stay we looked forward to seeing them at least once a day.

The house is very secure with a locked gate and security system.

The property is beautiful with well kept landscaping. The gardener is very sweet and graciously provided us with some coconuts a couple of times during our stay. There are a variety of plants and the flowers are spectacular. We had a variety of birds visit the trees each day. It was fun to watch them.

We really liked the location of the house. It is very close to beaches, markets and restaurants. The road to the house is mostly paved.

We loved this place so much that we truly hated to leave. It is one of the few places that we would actually make a repeat stay at and would highly recommend it to family and friends.

Beautiful Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for only one week, very short I know. The home was very beautiful, great views of the beach and local river. Waking up to Howling monkeys and singing birds. About a 5min drive to downtown Uvita to locate shops and restaurants which was very convenient. Owner was great Yves, was very helpful on making sure you had everything you needed to feel comfortable. We will be back........

We travelled to Costa Rica for three weeks with our children this summer, deciding to finish off our trip with a stay at Eko - Mar - we certainly left the best till last! The photographs, along with the description on this site do not do the property justice.

Yves is an amazing host - and the house is supplied with everything you could need - from internet, to spices and equipment in the kitchen (including cold drinks in the fridge upon arrival) and games to play on a quiet Costa Rican evening! The outside living area was very comfortable and we made use of it on a daily basis, enjoying our breakfast al -fresco, as well as our siestas! Our children loved the morning visits from Bo the dog, and even though Yves lived on the property we didn't notice he was there.

The situation of the house is amazing and the views it offers are breath-taking, especially at sunset, sunrise and even during thunder and lightning storms......we enjoyed being awakened by the calls of Howler Monkeys in the distance and the calls of the parakeets outside, in the trees of the garden. In the evening we enjoyed the calls of the toucans and watching them playing in the trees of the garden.

In the garden the infinity pool is fantastic and we spent several hours in it playing and enjoying the views it offered, down to the Pacific Ocean - on one day we spent several hours whale watching from the pool!

If you can tear yourself away from the house beautiful beaches and National Parks are all only a short drive away, as well as supermarkets, markets and restaurants - which are only 5 minutes away by car in Uvita itself. All of these things are highlighted in the information / welcome folder that Yves has produced and that you will find in the house.

All in all we had an amazing stay and we really did not want to leave, for so many reasons. Eko - Mar is a truly amazing place to stay and we will never forget our time there - in fact I think it will be very hard for another property to live up to its location, wildlife and utilities - we cannot wait to return!!

Our two weeks at Casa Eko Mar were to put it plainly AWESOME!!! It exceeded our expectations. Yves had everything you could possibly need including coffee and a couple of cold beers on arrival. We have travelled to Costa Rica many times and have stayed all over the country..but if you are searching for somewhere to stay that promotes peace and tranquility..this is the place. The bird life is to put it mildly spectacular..I could hardly wait to get up in the morning to watch the rainforest awaken (that being at 5:30 am)...howler monkeys, toucans and birds every colour of the rainbow and of course the resident parakeets in the date palm outside our bedroom window. I literally photographed 14 different species of birds from our outdoor living room...less than 20ft from the couch. The infinity pool is second to none..get in the pool and watch fantastic sunsets every day. The house is as advertised..Yves has hi-speed wifi very reliable and the road up to the house is mostly paved..only 1km off Hwy 34 and about 4km from the beautiful beach of Playa Hermosa. Even though Yves lives on the property you will never see him unless you need him..He is the perfect host..along with his beautiful dogs Bo and Filu who we fell in love with. The house is only 5 min from town and less than 1/2 hrs from at least 5 beautiful beaches..the most people we saw on any of those was approx 15. We will definitely be back for a longer stay.

Outstanding well furnished, high quality house with outstanding views and great privacy

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house after looking at the photos and reading the reviews - which are all very positive. The house still exceeded our high expectations. First, as people have noted, Yves is a fantastic host. He lives on the property and is readily available if you would like to speak with him, but the property is designed so there is complete privacy in the house and Yves respects your privacy.

Second, the house is located in Uvita, which is a beautiful area with easy access to beaches, excellent restaurants, and wild life adventures. We were able to combine great relaxation time with beach visits and waterfall and nature reserve hikes to see a plethora of birds and wildlife.

Third, the house is fantastic. The construction is high quality, including a very large and well equipped kitchen. Yves has left a very nice selection of spices, etc., which was really nice when we cooked or barbequed at home. We have stayed in many VBRO rentals. The kitchen was the most well equipped home we have ever rented. Thank you, Yves, for being so thoughtful.

The house design is somewhat unusual because there is not really an indoor living room, but it works well. The downstairs consists of the huge kitchen and a dinning area. There is a patio living area outdoors next to the kitchen. It has very comfortable furniture with garden and ocean views. We spent a lot of time in that area. The bedroom is located upstairs with a high quality bathroom. The bedroom has great views from both ends of the house, including a magnificent ocean view. The infinity pool area is very private, yet it is has a completely unobstructed view of the ocean and entire Uvita coastline. We enjoyed the house with its one bedroom, although there is a second bedroom downstairs which is available for families with older children or for two couples.

Oh, I didn't mention the birds yet. There are many birds nest on the property. It was delightful to sit on the patio at breakfast and listen and see the many birds. We couldn't get through a breakfast without grabbing our binoculars or a camera. We also could stand in the pool or relax in the afternoon, while looking at birds.

I also have to mention the fantastic sunsets, which we had every night of our stay.

All together, this is an outstanding property. We enjoyed our stay very much.

I have missed this house since the day I left. Yves was very easy to work with and responded to any questions I had beforehand in a timely manner. The directions he sent were easy and he was waiting for us when we arrived. He showed us around the home and left us with a fresh bag of coffee, a pineapple and a couple of cold beers, all was greatly appreciated. The home is instantly inviting, the views are stunning, especially while sitting in or by the pool. Everything is in order and extremely clean. There was nothing that I needed that was not available. I did not cook but the kitchen was well appointed, if you should. The home is built toward outdoor living. We spend 90% of our time on the shaded, side porch or at the pool. The bedroom and a full bath are upstairs and air conditioned, with 2 balconies. Both balconies allow you to enjoy wonderful views. You are 10 minutes to Uvita, 15 to Dominical. We enjoyed meals in both towns and Ojochal. We loved Bakers Bean, where we would bring home empanadas for dinner or breakfast. We also had lunch and dinner up the mountain at Vista Ballena, we never made it for a sunset because the one at the house was spectacular. The road to the house is well maintained, though we had a 4 wheel drive, it was not necessary. We were told that the road is soon to be paved. IF there are any negatives to the house...the downstairs is not air conditioned, it does get warm but as previously stated there is a cool porch waiting. The home is designed for air flow so it is not bad. If you have difficultly with stairs instead of using the upstairs bedroom you may consider asking for the use of the downstairs. Yves was available and my husband enjoyed talking with him. He was so good to allow us to stay an extra night when we needed and returned our deposit before we left. To end.. I do not see how anyone could regret staying at this paradise. OOPS..almost forgot my favorite part...Yves's dogs, Bo and I forgot her name...they were great companions and kept me from missing my fur babies I left at home.
