Dave & Wendy Marshall work and manage the ranch and the business. Our neighbor Dillon Cornett helps to ensure your stay is a comfortable experience.
Former Telecom executives- We built this Grand Lodge and the Big Barn Main Lodge as our weekend vacation home and family compound.
Each weekend we flew our corporate plane in to the French Lick Airport (FRH) to escape the cold weather of Michigan. Here in Southern Indiana, we enjoy the slower pace of life, the nature and having a private family golf course was not so bad. We think that you too will find that things slow down here and that you too will enjoy the time here with family in our beautiful log lodge.
Our life and business ventures now include the lodge rental business- Where we rent out our two lodges:
Our properties are: The Grand Lodge listed here and, our other and much larger lodge just down the road- Big Barn Main Lodge. The Big Barn Main Lodge is designed for larger groups.
FITNESS BUSINESS TOO: We also manage our fitness and detox business where we do a 6 and 10 day live on the ranch- It is an Herbal detox and fitness boot camp. Our claim to fame here is an average of 14 pounds weight loss in just six days.
There are two programs that we manage.
If you care to see our fitness book you can find it on Amazon : Marshall Law From Raw foods To Red Meats.
Wendy Henry (Marshall) purchased this lodge in 2000
Why this property?
When we selected the spot for the Grand Lodge it was initially based on location- We wanted a vacation home that was less than a two hour flight one way for a weekend vacation home
Then it was the warmer weather- It is always much warmer here than where we lived in Michigan.
Here we get 3 cold months a year and much better spring, summers and beautiful colors in the fall
We also liked the wooded lay of the land as a great spot to put up high fence for our Elk and Buffalo as raising our own grass fed organic meats are important to us.
We also wanted gentle rolling hills to build our personal / private golf course- Our golf course is a huge hit just because it is invitation only for our friends and its also available only to renters of our Main Lodge/Blanche House and our Grand lodge.
Keep in mind- this is quite possibly the worst golf course in the USA but it is quite difficult and it is very beautiful as its fairways are lined with grape vines and lavender plants
Here you can shoot Clay pigeons, handguns, have a bon fire, play golf, fish and make some noise if you wish. In nearby French Lick, there are activities of all types to keep you amused PGA golf courses, train museum and polar express, go-carting, miniature golf, big splash adventure water park, bowling and arcades, laser tag, movie theatre and a winery.
Although we are deep in the woods (The Hoosier National Forest) we are 15 minutes from a 5 star hotel and world class steak house. We feel our location is a perfect balance of remote ranch living and activities in town that compare to some of the finest attractions in other better know resort towns.
Unique Benefits of our property?
My needs were that the place would be Private - and it is just that !
Shared weight gym with the other lodge and owners. Or private 3- season gym at Grand Lodge.
The Grand Lodge offers a custom entrance with a pewter carved buffalo on one side of the door with an elk carved in bronze on the other side of the door.
The hibachi grill in the kitchen rivals that of Benihana's grills and separates the living area from the kitchen with a marble bar with seating for six. The kitchen comes stocked with most all of the plates, pots and pans that you will need. If creating a specialty dish. Please ask.
The wrap around deck is a great place to sit and rock in a chair and enjoy the morning coffee and that glass of wine in the evening. The back deck is HUGE! a great place to sun bath and enjoy a nice dinner on the deck.
Our Main Lodge gym is a full on weight and cardio gym, we train clients here and it has every piece of equipment that any trainer or athlete would ever want or need.
The Grand Lodge gym on site is a great place to let the kids play in the event the weather is not cooperating plus, it is large enough we have used it for boy scout camping and have had over 40 kids sleep there!
The Grand Lodge a Luxury Log Home on one site- or our huge Main Lodge on the other site down the road.
The Patoka Lake is nearby for pontoon rentals or water skiing and Paoli Peaks is nearby for Snow skiing
Shooting ranges on both properties
Your own almost totally Private Golf course
My mother and her 3 children, 3 in-laws, and 7 grandchildren stayed here from Wednesday to Sunday. What a great birthday present for my mom to have all of us together. The cabin had 4 bedrooms with a door (king, queen/single combo, queen, queen), 1 loft area with a queen bed, and in the basement there were 5 beds sort of in the middle of the basement out in the open. This setup worked great as my mom and all of her kids got a bedroom with a door and the grandkids got the remaining open beds. The cabin had a nice kitchen with dishes, silverware, and cooking utensils along with a dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, and a hibachi grill. The living room had a chess set which got a lot of use and it had a kitchen table with a leaf in it for eating and card playing. It also had a satellite TV (I think there were a total of 4 TVs in the house) and a wood burning fireplace which got lots of use. The cabin also had 4.5 baths. Outside the cabin had an outdoor fireplace, a gas grill, and a fire pit along with a deck around the entire house that was great for sitting on or playing cornhole or even laying in the hammock. About 50 yards from the front door of the cabin was another building that had a ping pong table, treadmills, and an open space for exercise. It was a great building to let the grandkids play. With 15 people in a cabin, the outdoor and other building amenities allowed the space to never feel crowded. We loved the experience of the cabin and will go back again. It was an awesome cabin loved by all generations. My only complaint was that the wifi put off a strong signal but the speed was not good. You could not stream music and it took it several minutes to download an app. The best part was that our kids were not constantly on their phones, but since there was really no wifi and no cell service that deep in the woods, we did feel disconnected from the world except for the TV which wasn't a bad thing. It made it had to communicate with ourselves if anyone headed into town for anything. Even texting proved to be difficult.
I wanted to enjoy a quiet get away with my better half as we had been away from each other for some time. This could not have been more perfect! The owners were beyond helpful for any of our needs, and helped us to enjoy our weekend escape! I would recommend this location to anyone and my love and I are already planning another trip to our new hidden gem! It was close enough to see the sights and a nice dinner at French Lick resort & West Baden Springs, but we knew that we really were in a better place staying at Elk Ridge Ranch!
The place was beautiful. Clean and comfy. There were 11 of us ladies and this place had plenty of room and all the comforts of home. The owner Wendy was very nice she gave us a tour of her other properties and the property manager Dillon was very helpful and he was a good representative for the property. The Grand Lodge was not to far from French Lick but once you get to the Lodge you will want to just stay there to enjoy the seclusion and piece and quiet.
The only issue was that the driveway going up to the property was a little challenging. But once you get past that the place was great. Everyone enjoyed the weekend tremendously. We would consider staying there again.
This property is an ideal family reunion rental -- particularly for families (and compatible couples) who are comfortable staying on the property, rather than traveling around the area. Although Elk Ridge Ranch is quite removed from the surrounding communities, that is not particularly important, since upscale golf is about the only area attraction. French Lick does boast a very nice casino; and the French Lick and West Baden hotels are absolutely majestic; but that pretty much covers what the area has to offer. Elk Ridge Ranch, itself, offers privacy, a great deck with a clean grill, a super kitchen, and a large central gathering area. The bedroom and bathroom situation is quite accommodating (with the only exception being the the locked bedroom closets, which left us without anywhere to hang our clothes). And getting to the rental property, was also memorable -- given the gravel drive and steep hill that could easily challenge a mountain goat. But playing "bean bag horseshoes" on the wrap-around deck -- or sitting around the bonfire -- made up for that experience. All in all, Elk Ridge Ranch served are purposes quite well.
We suggest that you plan adventures in French Lick or Patoka to keep the kids entertained. There is plenty to do from Zip lines to water sports!
