About Sharon Lewis

We, my husband, daughter and myself, have been coming to the Lucca area since 1994. I am half Italian, my husband loves Italy, and our daughter leads small tours to the Lucca area. We all live in the Pacific Northwest, but love the time we spend in Italy.

Sharon Lewis purchased this villa in 2014

Why Sharon Lewis chose Piana di Lucca

My grandmothers parents came from Ponte a Moriano at the bottom of the hill. My grandfather came from Quiesa, a village near Massarossa, outside of Lucca. In 2010 we bough Casa Lucy, a small cottage, with 250 olive trees. We started exporting olive oil to the United States in 2012. After we bought Lucy we discovered that Campitino was up the road and for sale. As fate would have it, I had seen Campitino on the internet in 2009 and fell in love with it. This year we had the opportunity to purchase Campitino from the Brannen family who had the vision to restore and build this amazing compound. We were able to add 375 olive trees to our farm. We also farm 250 olive trees for a neighbor.

What makes this villa unique

This is a beautiful area, where you can be at the sea, in Pisa, or Florence in less than an hour, Or just hike the property and enjoy the beauty of the area.

The houses are comfortable for family or groups. The terraces and pool offer spectacular views of villages, churches, mountains, valleys, and the Serchio river. Leonida, the upper house is 400 years old, we named it for my Grandmother, who was born in California and never came to Italy. Luca, the terrace house, is named for my great-grandfather who lived in Massarosa, use to be a storage place for wine and the lemons in winter, now it is a stunning home with views from every window. You can walk for pizza or pasta in the evenings or have dinner on the terrace. Arrangements can be made if you are there in November, to join in the olive harvest.

Heaven on earth!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Villa for a week and fell in love with the accommodations, nearby village, location, and all of the wonderful people that helped make this an amazing vacation. The villa itself is delightful. It is furnished with everything you would possibly need in the kitchen, large tables to eat and play games, a cozy living area with amazing fireplace, comfortable bed rooms and wonderful baths. We were there prior to the normal "season" beginning in April but were lucky to have sunshine and watch one of the most robust wisteria plants bloom over the pergola next to the patio. The views in the morning and evening were spectacular. I can't wait to book again later in the season so we can enjoy the pool as well!

Balboa goes to Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

This was our 6th trip to Leonida Villa in Pieve Di Brancoli with guests from the Pacific Northwest that are friends and wine-club members, we spent wonderful days exploring Toscana. We have so many great memories some include having Chef Aurelio from Antica Locanda Di Sesto come to the Villa for a cooking class/dinner, visiting Montechiari Winery, spending days in Lucca eating and shopping, wine-tasting at NostraVita Vini di Montalcino, the LEGENDARY IVANO coming to the villa to make his amazing Pizza's from the ancient wood fire ovens, visiting a copper shop in Lungo Il Fiume Pescia, where a 87 year old man will be the last of his craft in Italy due to government safety issues, hanging at the Devil's Bridge in Borgo Mozzano, just to name a few!!! The villa has a breathtaking view, the accommodations are just perfect, and we love hiking around on the Roman trails and up to the Croce! We miss you Leonida!

Our family had the pleasure of staying at Campitino di Leonida in October, 2016. It could not have been a more wonderful experience. The houses are comfortable and welcoming, the view is spectacular and the staff is exceptional. It was a week we will never forget! We hope to return in the future!

My overall impression of Leonida Villa; "Stunning!".

  • 5 of 5

The Villa is a hidden oasis up in the mountains overlooking the city of Lucca. We did have problems initially finding the villa and I would suggest redoing the directions and having an address, for the villa, to put in a phone. If the villa has no adequate address for GPS, I suggest using the nearby restaurant in the village which is also a good place to park. We had personal chefs, Morena and Ivano, cook for us every other night, including the first night we arrived. Their food was delicious and plentiful! Another suggestion would be a Chiminea on the patio as the evenings can be quite chilly. 5 Star stay! :)

Owner's Response: I am so sorry about having a hard time finding Leonida. I looked at our directions and realized we have not added the GPS coordinates. We will correct that at once. We will also investigate the addition of a outdoor fire spot. Thank you so much for your kind words and we do hope you enjoyed your time with us. We hope to see you in the future.

Better than we could have imagined!

I don't even know where to start. For anyone considering this villa for your next vacation, stop looking, and book it. The villa exceeded our expectations, including all of the wonderful people the helped make our stay so special. The view is breathtaking, and all of the wonderful terraces is where we spent most of our time. The two houses are beyond charming, and everything was well kept and clean. The pictures almost don't do it justice, there was nothing like walking up the steps for the first time, and realizing we never wanted to leave! Beyond the accommodations, which were fantastic, the people that work with the estate were amazing and really put this vacation over the top. Jaqueline was so helpful throughout the planning all of our meals and day trips and made sure we had everything we needed. She even checked in with me during her own vacation to make sure we were happy and enjoying our stay. Mauro, our driver that she arranged, was excellent. I think he knows everything. He was full of information, and we learned so much from him about the area and the history during our drives. Morena, our chef, was wonderful. Her dinners were beautiful, from the food itself to her service, and table settings that she handled all herself. I wanted to bring her back with us, she was such a pleasure. Ivano, or the "pizza machine", was something special. One day he brought us fresh vegetables he picked for us to enjoy, he popped in and brought us a biscotti cake one morning, and we think he even took some trash to the cans for us one day while we were out. And the pizzas - how amazing it was to enjoy our terrace with the old brick pizza oven in view, and watching him make more pizzas than we could eat, and all delicious! He left us so much food we didn't need dinner the next night. He was an absolute treat, all around. We walked through the charming village to the restaurant a couple of nights, where Paolo the owner was so welcoming to us. I'll always remember him in his apron and flour covered hands smiling as we walked in, even with me asking for a table in my spotty Italian. This was a trip for a lifetime for us. Everything from the houses and the view, to all of the wonderful people that helped make this vacation as special as it was, will make this a visit we will never forget. Thank you all.

Leonida Villa Exceeds Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

It is rare to find a magical place that transports you to another time and space. Our family enjoyed all that Leonida and the surrounding area had to offer. The team helped me create a vacation getaway for my family that was full of fun experiences -- including, a personal driver, fabulous chefs and relaxing massages, for all 7 of us. The premises are everything described on the website and more. It is obvious that the owners care about their place -- and most importantly, care about the overall guest experience. There is no detail too trivial for them -- Jaqueline and Jake were a phone call or text away and were very attentive to our needs-- which is very comforting when traveling so far from home. And details make all the difference! We all felt like Leonida was this beautiful canvas -- that enabled all of us to unwind, relax and re-connect. From there, we created incredible memories that we will share for a lifetime! Thank you Leonida team for making our time together so exceptional. I highly recommend this Villa -- I know, we will be back again someday.

Leonida is located on a working Olive and fruit tree orchard, that is also home to an organic orto (garden) planted with herbs and vegetables. We are 20 minutes to Lucca a beautiful walled city with great shops, beautiful churches and wonderful opportunities to walk or bike around the wall. There are tours to wineries and historic villas, or the Gothic line that can be arranged. Visit the wineries in Montecarlo, or Matria. Closer to home you can hike the Roman roads that fan out behind the house, or learn more about the olive oil we produce from our trees. Day trips to Florence, Pisa, the marble quarries of Carrara, Cinque Terre, Voltera, or Bulgheri are easy drives from the house.
