Our family purchased this property in December of 2013. We have a long history in St. Augustine. Kim Stone is a 5th generation St. Augustine native. Greg is a native of California and grew up close to the ocean in the San Diego area. Our family decided this was a good time to realize the dream of having a home on the ocean. Greg and Kim live on the property for 7-8 months of the year.
Kimberly C. Stone purchased this house in 2013
We decided on this property because of the supreme location. It is close to so much and yet quiet and peaceful on the Lane with few neighbors. It is also the no drive portion of the beach which makes it a preferred location for children and dogs.
Close to restaurants and the pier while being nestled in a little area of peace and tranquility. With only one true neighbor we enjoy quiet bliss in this seaside retreat.
I only have two words about this home....RENT IT! You will not be sorry. We were just here over Labor Day weekend for 5 days and it was just fabulous!!! The location could not be better...direct beachfront, beautiful white sand and walking to lots of restaurants and the pier. The inside the house had everything you need...the large open living room, dining kitchen combination makes for great fun!!! Really comfortable beds, great fire pit area outside, beautiful decks to enjoy the view.... The owner is so easy to work with and gave us lots of really good restaurant recommendations. Everyone wants to go back next year to the exact same house but we all agree we would like a longer stay!!!
We rented this house for a family beach vacation and it truly had everything we needed including beach towels, chairs, toiletries, and a fully stocked kitchen. The actual home looks better in person than it does in the photos. It was very clean and inviting. The master shower was fantastic! The home has an open living/dining floor plan, which was great for hanging out with family. We loved being steps from the beach! We also liked having privacy - the home sits back behind sand dunes so you can be out on the back deck or in the yard and not be in view from the beach. The deck also has a raised portion to sit and look at the ocean. There is also a beach chair rental (Barney's) directly beside the house, so if you want to walk out and already have your chairs and umbrella ready, they will set it up each morning and take them down each evening. Overall, we had a great stay. We had 5 adults, one child and 2 dogs. The beach is very dog friendly, especially early morning and evening, so our pooches had a great beach vacation too!
We had a great girls weekend at the cottage. Everything I mean everything is there. We were amazed. All we needed was us and food. It was amazing!
Our two teenage boys and dog visited for the second summer in a row, and the Stone's Castaway Cottage proved again to be the perfect vacation spot. Everything is provided so eating in is easy as is relaxing inside (where the teens could have their own space or we could all congregate together) or outside with the great new raised deck. The real draw is the location: near great places to eat, a long and never crowded beach and ocean right over the dunes, and easy access to St. Augustine or the great concerts at the Amphitheater where my sons could take Uber there and back. Once again, we never wanted to leave, but at least we know we can return again. Easy to give this wonderful, relaxing beach house a 5!
This cottage was perfect for us. Right on the beach with awesome view from the upper deck and convenient to everything. House was very clean and comfortable for 5 people and a small dog. We would stay there again and recommend it to any family. Thanks for a wonderful vacation.
My husband and I, along with our dog, stayed here for 12 days and had a wonderful time!! The cottage is perfect - beautiful views of the sunrise and beach from the deck, only a dozen steps to the beach, and within walking distance of great restaurants and other things to do. St. Augustine Beach is dog friendly so it's nice to have a property owner who will let you bring your fur baby. Kimberly provides a personal touch and goes out of her way to make sure everything is perfect for your stay, including the beautiful flowers she had planted just the morning before we arrived. She checked on us several times via text to make sure we had everything we needed. When my elderly parents came down for a few days to join us, she also checked with us to make sure everything was good for them. In addition to the perfect cottage, there is so much to do while here - yoga on the beach, paddle boarding in Salt Run, bike rides to the end of Anastasia Park where you have the beach all to yourself, bowling, and putt putt. We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend this property.
You could spend weeks exploring all of the opportunities in St. Augustine. Historic downtown, museums, the light house, the beaches, the alligator farm, World Golf Village and countess golf courses and shopping/antiquing venues. Not to mention the cultural events and music performances offered throughout the community. You can spend a day deep sea fishing from the Conch House Marina and bring the catch in to one of the areas best restaurants. The Conch House has live entertainment and thatched huts perched high for a super dining experience. During spring, summer and fall months, on Wednesday nights there is a FREE live concert at the pier and it is only steps from the cottage! It is a wonderful experience. Just bring your cooler and lawn chair and you have the option of purchasing dinner from a local eatery each week. Countless hours can be spent combing the beach from Anastasia state park for 13 pristine beautiful miles. If walking is not your choice you can drive on at A street and drive for several miles of the beach. Either way it is an incredible experience not seen in many beach communities. When you have had your fill of beach activities it is a short drive to the historic corridor in downtown St. Augustine where you will find tons of amazing old artifacts, shops, restaurants, bars and tours to fill your days and nights. It is sure to keep your interest and appetite every step of the way. I would recommend Harry's on the bay front for fine dining but the options are endless. If a fine glass of wine and a cigar are part of your plan you should stop on Cuna Street and visit Isabella's Bar Cuba wine and cigar bar. She is a delight and will entertain you with stories of St. Augustine and Cuba. The city of St. Augustine also has a FREE concert on Thursday night in the town square. All you need is a lawn chair! There are many water activities available to you. The Schooner Freedom offers tours as do other boats leaving from the cities municipal marina downtown just south of the Bridge of Lions. St. Augustine is host to a wonderful Winery and Distillery. Both offer food and tours of their facilities. You will find them just off of King Street. If you love art and music you should try to experience the first Friday Art walk. All of the galleries host a reception for featured artists and provide music, wine and snacks. It is a wonderful way to get to know the local artists and offerings. If kayaking or paddle boarding is your sport you can rent them at numerous locations or book organized tours and lessons in several locations on Anastasia Island. For Island dining we recommend Sunset Grill, Mango Mangos, South Beach Grill, Panama Hatties, FA Cafe, Purple Olive, Salt Water Cowboy, Oasis and the new Salt Life to name a few. Beachcomber on A street is a good place to relax by the ocean if you do not mind a wait. Just be willing to relax and enjoy the location. For a quick and amazing taco you should try the Burrito works Taco Shop on A1A. They make some amazing 'fast' food that is fresh and yummy! Most restaurants have bars and entertainment too! If this is your first visit to St. Augustine and have a day we would recommend taking a Red Train Tour. The entertaining guides will give you a super overview of the city and its history. If your travels take you over to Vilano Beach just before you cross the bridge on the left is the King Fish Grill. It is situated right on the marina and has fabulous food surrounded by amazing yachts and scenery. Then once you cross the bridge turn left and travel north to two lovely restaurants right on the inter-coastal waterway. One is Caps on the Water and the other is Aunt Kate's. Both are on the water and both are exceptional. I would be negligent if I did not mention the Wednesday Farmers market at the pier and the the Saturday Farmers Market at the Amphitheater on Anastasia Island . Both have local fresh vegetable vendors as well as a sundry of craft, gift and food vendors. They also have fun entertainment at both venues. Speaking of the Amphitheater...St. Augustine has many top rated performers who give concerts almost every weekend through out the year. Check the schedule for times and tickets. It is a wonderful venue for a terrific night out. Cafe 11 also has many concert style performances and a terrific Sunday Breakfast buffet! Cafe 11 is an easy walk form the cottage as are many of the activities I have listed!

There will be a book on the property that explains all of the functions of the house with local numbers to call for questions or emergencies. There is a land line for continental US calls only. That number is 904-770-7177. We have a very dog friendly environment but do expect owners to pick up after their dogs in the yard and on the beach. Dogs are required to be on a leash on the beach.
