Located in Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort, our newly remodeled cabin features over 2,800 square feet of woodland luxury wedged only minutes between the breathtaking trails and waterfalls of Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks.

Accommodating up to 12 people, our building is tucked away on a private cul-de-sac backing to a wildlife preservation. The kitchen is very well-stocked, making at-home meals and gatherings a breeze. Of course, Wi-Fi and over 130 TV channels are included, along with 4 DVD players. If you're looking for extras like upgraded shower heads and water that never runs cold, we hope you'll enjoy discovering all of our other little bells and whistles that we hope make your stay exceptional.

And if having the best is how you're wired, we think you'll approve of our location in the secluded westernmost section of the resort - an idyllic retreat after a long day of hiking. Spend some time relaxing on the deck while taking in the many sights and sounds of nature. It’s the perfect environment to unwind, enjoy, and make lasting memories.

KINDLY NOTE: Waterpark passes are not included with this unit. Day passes may be purchased at the resort. Please confirm with the resort that the waterpark is available during your requested dates. About The Owner

My husband and I truly love the Starved Rock area. Both of us like running, so there’s nothing like stepping out our door onto some of Illinois’ most coveted trails. We are also avid cyclists and enjoy being only moments away from the I&M trail system, and about 30 minutes from the Hennepin Canal. I also enjoy birding, which keeps me plenty busy given the area’s diverse eco-systems. And can’t forget to mention the local golf is great.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2006

Why The Owner chose Illinois

Starved Rock is the perfect weekend getaway for us. While the trails allure most of us, there are plenty of opportunities for everyone: horseback riding, canoeing, boating, fishing, star gazing, or just taking time to relax with friends and family. We love the local shopping, so be sure to stop by the quaint little town of Utica which is full of charm. Try a tasting at one of two wine shops and then pick up some gourmet popcorn or cupcakes. Afterwards, don’t forget to stop by Duffy’s for a great burger.

What makes this cabin unique

Since we're nature buffs, there was no better location for us than to be tucked in the back of the resort with the wildlife preservation as our backdrop. Lounging on the deck is perfect for relaxing moments. Grab a cup of coffee, close your eyes, and listen to nature’s symphony. There’s nothing like it.

5 Star Luxury Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 8 spent a long weekend at Susan's luxury cabin. It was everything that it was advertised to be and Susan , the owner, was absolutely wonderful to work with throughout the entire process. She was very available, informative, quick to respond, and willing to help in any way she could. It was truly a pleasure to communicate with her and plan our trip to her cabin. The cabin was very clean, welcoming and spacious. It was in an ideal location close to the parks, towns, and main highways. We would definitely stay at her cabin again and we have already recommended her home to others!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your super kind words!! I'm so glad you enjoyed your time in our cabin. We travel quite a bit through VRBO ourselves, and it probably comes as no surprise that our very best trips were those that offered the best communication right from the start. We strive to offer that same level of service to our guests in the hopes that you leave with nothing but great memories. Many thanks for your referrals, too. Hope you come visit again!

Excellent place for weekend Getaway with friends and Family !!!

  • 5 of 5

We spent two nights at this property with 3 families all together 6 adults and 6 kids combine. This place is less than 1O minutes walk from starved rock state park and 5 minutes car ride. Place is very clean and stocked up with all pots\pans and utensils. We found it to be spotless, well-maintained, and equipped with everything we needed. Kids loved the bunked bed. Susan the property manager was very responsive to our requests. we would love to go back to this place.

Large, comfortable cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We were in town for a family wedding with our 2 teenage sons and my mother- and father-in-law. Sue's cabin is spacious (bigger than you can even tell from the pictures) and very comfortable. There's plenty of room for the whole family to spread out and get some space, which you really can't do in a hotel room. It's an easy walk up to the Grand Bear Lodge for the waterpark and arcade.

The master bedroom upstairs is very roomy. The pillows are soft and comfy. The 2nd bedroom with 2 queens and the bunk room are downstairs on the lower level and stay nice and cool in the summertime. The ground floor is open with plenty of seating and a nice big dining table. Every possible dish/utensil you could need is in the kitchen ready for you. We visited in the summer, so didn't need the fireplaces, but I can imagine they're super cozy in the cold weather. We loved having 4 bathrooms - no rushing around to take turns showering in the morning!

Sue is very friendly and easy to work with. If we're back in the area to visit family, we'll definitely rent this cabin from Sue again!

Clean, well kept unit (plus notes on the complex)

  • 4 of 5

Overall, I was pleased with this rental. The cabin was clean and stocked with towels, TP, soaps, trash bags and even some bottled water in the fridge. Kitchen had ample cookware to accommodate all our needs as well. Owner was prompt in scheduling and answering questions.

Being a 3-level unit, the heating was quite uneven however. There was at least a 10 degree difference in the temperature from the upstairs bedroom versus the basement bedrooms. Be aware that you'll need to set the thermostat carefully, and perhaps sleep with a window open upstairs like we did or use a fan. If you go during the summer months, the reverse could be true with AC running.

Also, although the mattress we slept on upstairs was comfortable, it seems to made of or covered with some type of fabric that makes quite a rustling sound when you turn over at night. As a light sleeper this bothered me.

Notes on the Grand Bear Property overall (not a critique of this particular unit):

The complex itself is quite dark at night, with roadways that twist and turn. The buildings (comprised of 4 attached cabin/condos) are not clearly marked, and although the unit numbers are positioned above each doorway they are also not clearly illuminated. We had some difficulty locating this unit (at the back of the complex) when we arrived. Be sure to have a printed map with you to assist...and you still may have trouble.

We were disappointed that the "Enchanted Forest" (indoor gaming/ride center) was not open during our visit. A sign on the door simply said "closed for remodeling." If you're counting on entertaining your family here, you'll want to check and see if it is open again. We did visit the indoor waterpark (about $20/person) and enjoyed that.

The complex is set out a bit from grocery/shopping. Just be aware that if you need supplies you'll have about a 10 minute drive to hit any major retailers. Be sure to visit Starved Rock on your visit...and ask for a map with some marked suggestions on where to hike, given the time you have and the physical capabilities of your group.

Great Spot for a Group Visiting Starved Rock

  • 5 of 5

Our group of nine people stayed at Sue's cabin in the Grizzly Jack's resort area when visiting for a long weekend. We had a great time. The cabin is very spacious and the pull-out sofas (although there are also 7 beds), four bathrooms, and laundry facilities came in handy. Having all of the towels we needed and toiletries provided was also appreciated. The place was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals for the entire group. Having dishwasher and laundry detergent provided was very convenient. Very good WiFi too.

We were not there for the water park but we did take advantage of the proximity to Starved Rock. The closest hiking trails are directly across the street from the resort and the main entrance to the park is less than half a mile away from the resort.

Sue is a great host. Booking couldn't have been any easier and she quickly answered every question I had. My security deposit was submitted for return before I even got home. I will definitely look into staying at Sue's property the next time I have a group that wants to visit Starved Rock!
